Arthas coming back from the distant, frozen, undead-infested North to a hero's welcome only to immediately murder his father in his own throne room was such a "Shit just got real!" moment for the younger me when I first saw it. Like, you knew it was coming, you knew Arthas was going full Death Knight way earlier, even moreso if you were familiar with Blizzard's other games (the protag gets possesses by Diablo, Kerrigan gets infested by the Zerg, etc.) but that gut punch of a son mercilessly killing his dad hits all the same. Worse because Terenas can’t even believe his eyes right up until Frostmourne impales him. And the sound the blade makes when it pierces him. Top notch.

Alright, now that's a meaty list! Perfect, thank you. Spent today starting to learn Renpy, a Python library. Managed to build a scene, ginned up some stock/AI art, made a simple branching conversation, and a bonus scene for picking the right options. Terribly primitive, but a good start. So your list should be very useful in the near future!

Off the top of my head, the only VNs I played were...something about a guy winding up at a remote fancy hotel/mansion, and it's a harem deal, very old arty style. One about a guy who magically got turned into a girl and the entire story was baiting if he'd bang a dude, there was a bunch of them, but I didn't care for the concept. Uh...there was a cat/doggirl harem one. Amateur one based off Love Hina, think it was a Flash game even. Probably some others similar to the first I can't recall. But you get the idea. So I'm looing forward to the ones you've named.

I also mentioned 'Doki Doki Literature Club', which I've seen let's plays of. It's free on steam.

I didn't have the media literacy at the time to see it coming, which made it that much more impactful, being a yuge Warcraft lore nerd even then. I could tell something was wrong, but that Arthas was totally corrupted took a minute longer than it should've, heh. Although you can clearly see the shift in tone and storytelling with WC3, it was still a wonderful game, at a time when Blizzard only made wonderful games.

That they're dying so fast, to a worse extent than Bioware, friggin' sucks. Valve, of all studios, has held their pedigree by not making much. But all my other favorite studios, guys who were always good, are all gone. Both in employees and in principles. Alas. I did like the OWL when the metas were good, but OWL2 took half the fun for me (tank main), and the constant turnover of players ruined the concept of city-based teams. Especially since it became mostly a Korean league repping mostly western locations.

Well, that'd be mighty well appreciated. Right now I'm mainly figuring out how to finagle the library into something workable for anything more complex than a linear path. Got a functional "Move" & "Look" system now, so a player can repeatedly visit locations and have different things happen at different times. Just gotta think of a _story_, heh.

What's the setting? Do you have a theme, or main objective of the character?

Don't have one yet! Spent most of today's productive time bashing my head into the limitations of a Python library. What should be very simple design for C/C++/Java isn't really supported in this limited a codebase.

My thinking, once I'm ready to actually start making a story, is either:
1) A tavern owner simulator - A game I'd like to make fully fledged down the line, but the gist is a lite-RPG, wherein you serve drinks, food, keep things stocked, and keep the weirdo adventurers rested
2) A young man, posted alone to a remote space station. He aimed too high, and the bureaucracy reminded him of his place. But then weird stuff starts happening. He _is_ alone, right?
3) Straight up smut. Harem, wish fulfillment, power fantasy, fuckin' suckin', I'll feel like a sleaze, but it'll make money if I pay a decent artist.

As we wind down to the midnight hour, gonna put my two cents in. Bothered me when BSN changed, panicked me when they announced it was going down. CZ's been one of the few stable things in my life I've enjoyed. Usually as a lurker, but then it all happened to turn out this way somehow. But I was glad to be able to whip this site up in time, have so many people make the jump, even have Troodon pop in once for old time's sake, and Thundertactics stop by for an evening. Though I knew the years would thin us, I've been pleasantly surprised with how many remain, and how many are in the Discord. Come what may, and all the panic GoDaddy has caused me over the last 7 years (Nearly at the exact anniversary!), and the many, many hundreds of dollars, it's been a good ride, lads.

I suspect I'll probably the only one to ever see this message too! I hope CZ lasts a good long while, and Bioware makes a good ME game again. But if nothing else, so long as I'm alive and have the bare minimum needed to keep the place online, or at least keep ownership of the domain, this'll be here, archived and ready if need be. I said I'd lock the doors and turn out the lights after all. And in a way, as only admins and mods will get past the lock screen, I'll still be here, a ghost in the machine.
