As far as I know, they're on all the difficulties. Maybe the frequency of them is increased on higher difficulties. Sure, you get a decent amount of intel and a scientist/engineer, but it's a time-based mission and I've rarely been able to get out with more than four turns left. The extraction point is always close by, but then it's guaranteed to have several enemy pods on the way.

I had capture missions, rescue missions, but never an escort mission that I recall. But I never had a moment where they told me I would lose a region if I didn't drop everything and do a mission, unless I wasn't paying enough attention. Though the time based missions were ecumenically harder than all the others, especially the retaliation attacks.

Well, they don't specifically tell you that you'll lose a region, but rather that skipping the mission is not recommended. I found out that you lose a region if you don't do a council mission because I skipped it once because it kept coming up at the shittiest times. Like when I'm just over one day from completing building or researching something big such as plasma weapons and then BANG, must pause everything because I have to rescue Mr. Slave.

Also, the escort mission is pretty much a rescue mission, since the VIP is with you from the start and you have to get his ass to the evac point, which is the part of the mission I think feels arbitrary as fuck.

I also loaded a save and rerolled the mission until I got one in which my guys weren't on a roof and immediately outnumbered two to one before I could even manage to get off that roof. Had no choice but to group up either, since the building was on the very edge of the map, which the AI naturally exploited immediately by using those MECs to lob grenades at me and kill the VIP in one shot.

Speaking of missions, I noticed in the trailer for the Templars in the War of the Chosen DLC, there's a new transmitter mission type in which you have to blow up a psionic transmitter by planting X4 charges on it with a set number of turns. You can increase the number of turns by destroying power relays that are scattered throughout the map and they have only one HP.

I was just hit with a automotive repair bill of $1000.

I called my mother in to negotiate for me. She talked them down to $420.

Shit, I'd take the help of my two year old cousin if it means 58% off whatever bill I need to pay. I'm not above that.

This is the same woman that, when she had repeated problems with the console of her Mercedes, (something that literally was only there to hold stuff. It was basically a glove compartment.) got them to replace THE ENTIRE $80,000 CAR.

It feels like waking up for months at 5:30 in the morning imagining how awesome it would be to have something like it made, imagining what stupid things I'll say and how I'll shrug it off because I'm in my element, and then having to turn that dream off to go to my dumb job and be too depressed and tired when I get home to do anything productive. Then it feels like procrastination when an opportunity comes and you shrug it off for any stupid reason you can think of; phone's too old, kitchen isn't cleaned, I'm missing ingredients, I've never done this before... Then it feels like the moment can be now, it'll be a piece of crap, but I could make it, maybe I shouldn't and continue my game, but no, I can totally make it right now. Yes! Get your nervous ass up right now, remember to breath and film this before anyone gets home. Then it feels like, whoa what did I just film? Then you just edit it the way you think it should look using windows movie maker.

My colonoscopy was clean. $900 to learn that nothing's wrong with my insides. Sigh. Still don't know what's wrong. Got referred to another doctor who deals with the muscles in that area, or something.

I sat down and worked out a rough estimate of where my money goes each year. As a contractor with inconsistent hours it's impossible to guess what I'll make in a given year, especially when pay is split between cash and cheque, and I don't keep track of the delta for cash flow. But of my yearly expenses, rent is immutable, and the biggest. But surprisingly, unnecessary food was the second. Running CZ, Patreon donations, Amazon Prime, and health supplements (protein, pills, etc) combined were less than what I spend on the _lowball_ estimate for fast food + takeout. And then all the random crap I buy outside of what I consider those necessities (books, video games, clothes, whatever) are beyond the purview of this.

However, I still meet my personal goal of saving >= 50% of income for any given period. So I'm conflicted. Feels wrong to be technically working poor, but able to put away savings and enjoy simple luxuries.

@Sci: Well, at least your butt is okay. Probably. Hell of a pricetag to have a guy check out your guts, but hey, it's your lifestyle, my man.

Yeah, I could also save a lot of money if I stopped buying food or snacks that I really don't need. Those Orios are so delicious, though. Then again, I don't have any massive expenses and I don't have a car to maintain. I might not make high five figures a month, but I also don't have to throw a lot of it away each month.

That said, I'd like to have a better income so that I could finally stop worrying about that sort of thing and just enjoy life.

Quality of life, in essence. I could buy my own truck, get insurances, drop my favorite sources of calories, and otherwise cut out all luxuries from my life. But man, that'd be miserable. Not like the difference in how I live now and how I want to live depends on a few grand a year. I'd have to literally more than double my income to afford an apartment 5 minutes away from here.

Oh, I am in a similar situation. An apartment at 20-something square meters (convert that to whatever format you desire) around here goes for about as much as the entire villa I live in now did, which was in the €200 000 range. I know parts of the country in which I could buy an entire neighborhood for that amount of money. I could also take a loan and be in debt for a very long time, but I really don't see the point. Not to mention that the rent would most likely be so high that I'd have to move out after a while anyway. And that's not counting the problems that might pop up while I live there, such as having to fix the plumbing, buy new/more furniture, redecorate the entire thing, stick to a cheap diet to save money, cut down on the movies, video games etc. It's sounds like such a hassle for something that might pay off in the long run.

If it hadn't been for the fact that the places I know have cheaper homes also only have the need of a very select few professions like nurses, teachers or social workers in general, I would move down there in a heartbeat.

That's a great amount of income to save. I'm at >= 30%. I'm working poor, housing pour, but saving better than those around me.

I was saving for a new laptop but that has to be put back for many months from now. Nothing explains my symptoms and that's frustrating for me.

I've spent this weekend entirely alone, family was out elsewhere. It's been blissful. You forget how badly some people need solitude to function until you go like a year without more than a couple hours of it. _Alone_. Set the AC to where I like it, cooked just for myself, cleaned for myself, closed the blinds, wore minimal clothing, and otherwise savored the lack of tension of having to accommodate others, much less someone who's renting you a room for a pittance. It's almost worth the insane cost of living, but not quite. So I sympathize. I could technically move out, but I'd slowly bleed out over...shit, even a year would drain my savings + income. Ain't fair for us 'young' folks sometimes.

To keep in mind, contractor work is spotty, and come winter, I can get weeks and months off, and that continues into spring. So I have to save to make it through the lean times, But thankfully it works out pretty well that I finish the year with a healthy % tucked away. Not much compared to any real white collar job, but hey.

What are the symptoms?

Although it did always kinda bug me that everyone forgot that it was initially a response to someone from the Garrus side doing a similar analysis, to convince us Garrus would taste like chocolate (or something along those lines).

Frankly, it's still a lot better than I'd ever expect, especially since I hadn't kept up with CZ for quite a while. I'm sure the optimism is sustainable as long as I sink back down to my usual pattern of a single burst of activity once every harmonic convergence.
I've been part of a lot of forums/communities that petered out far more definitively.

Thanks man, I can't promise I'll be much more active than I was during BSN's sunset, but it's still a lot of fun to see you all again!

Oh, don't worry. I'm sure that optimism will evaporate real fast once you take a proper headcount of who all is left. These people don't deserve you, TT.

It's good to see you again.

lol, I kid. :D

I've been part of a lot of forums/communities that petered out far more definitively.

It's good to see you again, as well.

best advice to keeping the fun atmosphere, don't go in the politics thread. :D

You were too late, son!

But really, I can at least appreciate that people are willing to (and continue to) argue their stance there. Ironically, it's probably a lot healthier than just choosing to filter out anybody who doesn't agree with you, even if it's probably not healthier for the community as a whole.

For comparison, there are a fair few ethnic Turks where I live and work, and whenever someone starts talking about Erdogan, it just becomes a game of who can smile and nod the most sincerely while they tell their story. Even though pretty much everyone in that room's got their own opinion on things and/or disagrees with them.
It's that cognitive dissonance where they're great people/friends and you agree with them 90% of the time, so you just ignore the "bad" parts and don't even consider arguing with them. (And I'm very much guilty of this as well; heck, I'm definitely not jumping into that thread, either!)

Aaww shiiiiiet, goddam!

Aye, airing it out is always better than censorship.
Still sometimes you gotta admit to yourself when you're just annoyed an argument is happening. :D

Ah well, welcome back.

"Operation Sweaty Misery"
Okay, now the game knows it's tormenting me with these dumbass council missions, because not only do I sweat profusely during them, I also find the whole thing to be complete misery.

I never knew that Garrus part, but for the record anytime that is mentioned outside of this group (which happens more often then you'd think) I explain that the whole thing was never actually meant to be taken seriously.
