Can we talk for a moment about how Nintendo added lyrics to the Super Smash Brothers theme?
Because no one seems to be talking about that.
I swear, after Odyssey they are doubling down on the "Sonic music but good" music.

And then Activion Blizzard went full retard and announced a mobile game that nobody wanted instead of the next proper Diablo game. They're even re-uploading videos to get rid of the staggering amounts of dislikes and they constantly delete comments.

Shit, there are even sites dedicated to backing up old versions of other sites and sites that have disappeared.

If you watch the reaction videos, a common element across all of them are sentiments of "There's lyrics?!" or "It just got Kingdom Hearts up in here!"
Brawl's theme had Latin lyrics, but that's a tonally different thing.

Dread it... run from it… destiny still arrives, Activion Blizzard.

Reminds me of when Bioware was at a convention after the Mass effect 3 crap went down. They did a quick in audience poll over favorite games, ME3 lost by a landslide.

I simply cant understand how anyone thought that was a good idea.
Maybe the game will sell. Its a phone game.
But to make that a big reveal at your big convention for your hardest of core fans? Thats just lunacy.

I guess they thought that they didn't need to add shit to diablo on PC because they like it being stale? -shrug-

The really hazy part is what you mean by "the military takes over and kills everything". My memory fails me when I try to think of an example of that bit since it sounds so corny it plays out in a lot of parodies, but I don't remember an original article that got parodied. It sounds like something that B-movies from the 50's would use to poke fun / make cautionary tales about the military during the Cold War. The closest thing I can think of is the first Cloverfield movie, where the Army had the rather reasonable goal of evacuating Manhattan and killing the goddamn monster before it got too much further.
I've seen it in Star Trek episodes, Avatar, Sci-fi horror movies. I don't remember specific ones, except Avatar, but it's a theme I see pop up once in a while.

A rather mild Blizzcon. The Diablo mobile game is a PR fiasco, though probably a financial victory. WC3 remaster seems cool, probably worth picking up. Panels of interest were way too short, sadly, but Classic WoW is looking fairly good in demo and philosophy. Some quibbles over whether sharding and not requiring a GM to handle every single case of accidental item ownership is wise, but otherwise they have the spirit of what it should be down. WoW proper, eh, it's a theme park ride, and now we know Azshara gets the second raid slot, Saurfang's a traitor, and we're still not clear on where this is going. OW gets a sexy new evil lady with a kit that should fit me well, a sexy robot lady down the line, and boy is Blizzard allergic to male heroes.
Nothing earthshattering like last year, but hey, at least there's good entertainment to be had out of it.

People keep saying this. Are phone games seriously still making that much of a profit? I mean seriously, a market that glutted with that much garbage cant possibly still have any whales in it.

I started a trial of Star Wars: Battlefront II (EA Version) a while ago. It's a lot of fun, but technically it's fucked. Damn thing keeps crashing and reloading it's shaders. I keep running into infinite load loops on the first fucking screen too. I wonder if this is a problem with how Origin handles trial versions of games, but this is a pretty bad case to get me to buy this thing.
Yeah, that's kind of a trope parodying the kind of Kill Em All Generals from 50's B-Movies that wanted to do nuclear war, toe-to-toe with the Russkies. It's the big reason every example you mentioned is a sci-fi movie. Eventually it became tradition because it's that familiar.

For every little extra that makes a world more alive, more real, that's another X hours of dev time and Y dollars that makes the people in charge wail and gnash their teeth. Rockstar doesn't give a fuck and does it anyway, for better or worse. But how is the game itself?
It's incredible in so many ways; the sheer attention to detail is mind-boggling. This is the best open world game I've played since The Witcher 3, and part of the reason is because of the world itself. The narrative does a fantastic job of actually using the sandbox they give you instead of just being a single-player story that happens to take place in an open world. Some people may tell you that the world is shallow and empty, and that is a load of bullshit, because even if you focus entirely on the story and never stray to side-quests or simple exploration, you still get an incredible tour of this setting.
The writing itself is actually stellar, in most cases. I have some nitpicks with the writing, but it's not enough to detract from what they give us. I felt GTAV was a little too wild, and the times it tried to be serious fell a bit flat because the game was so whimsical in most cases. RDR2 is fairly serious, and it has nuance. You get a great deal of characterization from the gang you ride with, and that really is what the story is about. Your bond with these people, and knowing that this is a prequel and how it ends years later does make the dramatic irony that much more delicious. RDR2 is much more focused on the characters than the previous game, but I still feel that RDR1 did a much better job of deconstructing the western genre and it does a better job of showing its rise and fall.
It's not perfect, and I do see where people are coming from when they say the game has a lot small issues. It is a very slow-paced game, and the sandbox does not open up until you finish this three hour-long prologue. The navigation of inventory does require a lot of getting used to, and that's where I feel a lot of people made up their mind. Once you do get used to the initially-awkward inventory and stat progression system, you understand how simple it really is and it becomes second-nature. In spite of that, I couldn't say I felt dragged down by the game's mechanics. Even the new crime/wanted system is an art that takes experience to understand, and I've shot up enough towns to tell you that I've become a very wise outlaw.
I absolutely recommend that people play it, and that they be patient with it. It may not be your cup of tea, and that's fair, but I still believe the game deserves praise for how much it pushes technology and the open-world format we've grown jaded to. I upgraded from the dusty ol' Xbox One to the sporty new Xbone X for this game specifically, and I do not regret it for a moment. RDR2 will ride your console hard.
