It's looking like it will reach the loyalty quests stretch goal which were my favourite part about the Mass Effect series so that's hype.

I actually get where you're coming from quite a bit. Again, I've had my fair few bad experiences with crowdfunding. But nowadays most of my favorite games are indie titles that have gone through KS or IndieGogo, so semi-periodically I seek out new games looking for a budget and back them. Never more than the bare minimum to get the finished product if it gets done tho, so even if it's a dud it's still less money wasted than with an half-baked AAA game. And this is actually the first time I back an hentai title, I don't make an habit of opening my wallet just because of a nice pair of tits is involved.

The way the developers speak about the project is what inspires confidence in me. Unless they are a bunch of con artists I feel like the development will go well.

They are only releasing a smaller bit initially and adding the stretch goals later, not sure whether I'm going to play it initially or wait for more of a full package.

Edit: Agree on your point about the indie games, Crosscode (see picture to your left) was a crowdfunded project and it's brilliant. It;s constantly being worked on while the devs provide clear transparency on what they are doing currently. It's really worth checking out to see if it's your thing.

Ok, here’s the quick, brief rundown of how the Vigilus campaign went down and the Warmaster Abaddon vs Marneus “Papa Smurf” Calgar showdown ended.

Chaos has an enormous advantage in the beginning in both numbers and firepower, and along with some cunning tactics from Abaddon, score some big early wins. In addition they have the aid of a super gravity weapon from the DAOT called the Void Claw, which the Fallen have and hoped to use against the Dark Angels in the future. Abaddon helped them out once, so he calls in the favor they owe him. The gravity weapon really fucks up the Imperial ships. Interesting note: its mentioned in the sidebar of the campaign book that the tech of the Void Claw is very similar to the "Hadronic large scale graviton array" in the Noctis Labyrinth on Mars, which happens to be where the very powerful C’tan shard of the Void Dragon is trapped and sleeping if you know your 40k lore.

Calgar uses the craftworld eldar, dark eldar, Genestealer cults, and orc forces as meat shields to delay Chaos long enough for him to regroup, get reinforcements, and come up with a desperate plan to survive the onslaught.

A squad of Dark Angels take out the Fallen based on the planet and confiscate the Void Claw, screwing over the White Scars in the process to keep their secrets.

The Imperium draws in lots of soldiers and ships from other planets to help hold back the Chaos armies, but doing so leaves those worlds defenseless, and Necrons claim those planets for themselves not long after.

Abaddon destroys a lot of the Blackstone deposits on the planet, which makes passage through the Great Rift in the Nachmund Gauntlet a lot more treacherous for non-Chaos travelers, as the Warp isn’t held back as much.

The Dark Eldar capture a terraforming station on the planet that fucks up the weather in the south with ice storms, but soon leave, because they got their quota of captured slaves to be taken back home and are running scared because a Chaos sorcerer gated in a high ranking Slaanesh daemon that started murderfucking dark elder by the truckloads.

Calgar manages to parlay with the Craftworld Eldar, and the two factions form an alliance, because they realize if Abaddon wins here, both of them are screwed. The words said and deals struck to ensure this alliance were stricken from the Imperial record. No one knows what Calgar may have said or promised to get the Eldar’s cooperation besides Papa Smurf himself, and he’s not talking about it.

The eleventh hour plan is they take a super powerful Eldar ship stuffed to the gills with Deathstrike Missiles armed with Vortex warheads and ram the Vengful Spirit in a suicide attack. Eldar cloaking tech and Farseer psykery keep it from being detected while the Imperium’s warships distract the chaos fleets and Calgar distracts Abaddon.

Calgar calls out Abaddon, and Abaddon obliges, wanting to kill him personally for the psychological and symbolic effect that would have on the Imperium. He teleports down off his ship and the two met in battle. Calgar lands a few good blows, but ultimately Abaddon is just above his league, and Calgar gets cut down, one of his hearts totally destroyed and the other all but destroyed. Just then the Eldar ship with the super nukes kamikazes into the Vengeful Spirit, doing massive damage, and creating a Warp rift that threatens to tear the entire warship apart. The Chaos Marine left in charge onboard begins an emergency Warp translation.

“Warmaster, the Spirit has been stricken amidships. The weak fool at its helm has ordered flight into the Warp, likely using the attack to claim our flagship for himself. We must return, or risk losing it forever!”

Abaddon gets told what’s happening, and is enraged at the prospect of the Vengeful Spirit being destroyed—the book makes it clear he really, really likes that ship—and furious that one of his lieutenants might run off with it or get it lost in the tides of the Warp from panicked incompetence, and with only seconds to make a decision, teleports back up to deal with the matter himself. His daemon sword is pissed it didn’t get to eat Calgar’s soul, but Abaddon won’t sacrifice the Vengeful Spirit. The Vengeful Spirit’s emergency Warp translation happens, taking Abaddon with it, and word that the Warmaster is no longer in system causes any semblance of organization among the Traitor warbands to fall apart. Some leave to go do their own thing elsewhere, some leave to regroup back with Abaddon, and some get taken down by the combined Imperium and Eldar fleets. Calgar has a tiny ember of life left in his ruined body, only thanks to his new Primaris bio-upgrades, and lasts long enough to get recovered, and treated at an apothecarium. His life is saved, and his mind still sharp, but his body is really fucked up. For the rest of the war, he had to stay off the battlefield. Its unknown if he’ll fully recover.

The Genestealker Cults are wiped out, since they were forced to begin their uprising early before they were ready, and there were no close by Tyranid hive fleets that could hear the psychic calls the Patriarchs were making.

The orcs in the cities are wiped out, but Mad Max-style enclaves of orcs endure out in the barren deserts, and months worth of more fighting will be needed to clear them out for good. Also, a few orc warbands are heading to the system, since they had caught word of all the fighting going on and thought it would fun to join in.

The Eldar left, because their enigmatic goals were met, and had already suffered heavy losses.

The Imperial astropathic choir on Vigilus got a vision of Abaddon returning in the future with an even bigger fleet, and with the warship Planet Killer leading them this time.

I was watching some videos about convergent evolution lately and it got me wondering just how familiar aliens or say, some future intelligent species on Earth, might be to us. Or other animals. It's eerie how closely different species can evolve to look when they have been molded by natural selection to fit into the same niche. Different, sure, but... familiar.

Speculative biology is a very fascinating thing to ponder. There's a fair few books and documentaries I can recommend you, if you're curious.
