Uh, I missed this one. I was more waiting for the movie where the animated JLA goes after Darkseid, but if they want to do a Wonder Woman solo prequel-y thing, I'm quite okay with that.

Also seen the Hush animated movie the other day. It was... fine. Definately the Batman movies have been the most "meh" of the current DC animated continuity series, but it was a step above the other 3. And I actually liked quite a bit how they handled the Batman and Catwoman relationship and the true identity of Hush. But the animation felt really cheap, even compared to the other films, and they really should have done like with the death and resurrection of Superman and make it a duology, if they wanted to do the story properly.

Season 3 of She-Ra dropped a few days ago. I watched it with the rest of the Night Crew, and we were all blown away. After season 1, I recommended it because it looked like it could potentially grown into something cool. Season 3 EASILY validated that assumption. If any of you out there were fans of Last Airbender, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND She-Ra, Princesses of Power. It's very much in that same vein of storytelling, though it cuts out a lot of the fat. Animation is solid and colorful, voice acting is really good, and the writing is top tier. Season one starts off like ATLA, kind of episodic stuff, setting up the world and characters. But then it starts snowballing from there, and from the start of season 3 on it's an avalanche. Hordak is an AWESOME villain, the interpersonal relationships of all the characters are incredible, and it has some of the highest highs and the lowest lows of any show I've seen in recent memory. Don't listen to the haters who write it off as SJW trash. It's not. It's LGBT representation done right, from a creator that actually knows how to tell a story.

TL;DR: If you liked Avatar The Last Airbender and want to see something in that same vein of storytelling, if you like good writing, colorful worlds, complex characters and relationships, and subversion of expectations and deconstruction of fantasy tropes DONE RIGHT, then you want to check out She-Ra.

I did check season1 myself a while ago. I thought it was alright, with some bright spots when it came to the animation and the support characters. Guess I'll have to do so if season3 gets that better.

There's a lot of shipping fuel going on, yeah, but it doesn't get in the way of the story I don't think. I actually think it enhances it, because each character has certain needs and wants. It does more to inform the characters than detract from them.

Prime example is Scorpia. She's crazy about Catra because as a giant scorpion lady, Scorpia clearly feels marginalized. She just wants people to see her for who she is, and so she latches on to Catra because she sees someone else who has constantly been kicked down and overlooked. And it becomes tragic because Catra is so full of hate and self-loathing she can't reciprocate or even comprehend why someone would see any value in her.

It's one of the reasons I really like it, the relationships are complex and complicated and therefore interesting, and only continue to get more so as time goes on.

I don't mind shipping, as long as that's not the only thing the story is about. Relationships are a part of life and makes for good drama triggers. I mean... the X-Men used to be my favorite comic and half the time there was one or two love triangles going on in whatever series you picked up xD

Also Scorpia is f-ing adorable, for being a huge barbarian with scorpion claws lol

But yeahh... will check season2 and 3 eventually, for sure.
