I really feel like GW still hasn't found the trait that will make Necrons appealing to me. They're about the only faction whose minis posted here only create a "meh" reaction from me instead of a "Woah!" no matter how well they're painted. And I say that as someone who tends to love undead characters or armies in general, whether they come from Battle (both Khemris and all types of Vampire Counts) or from Heroes of Might & Magic. As an example, I think that HOMM6 and 7 (which are rather average-mediocre games as a whole) did a much better job with the whole Spider/Babylonian undead theme.

It doesn't help that the few minis I quite like in a Necron army, the C'tan, stick out a lot design-wise compared to the rest of the army. The walkers on the picture above for example look like the designers hesitated between going "War of the Worlds" or creating more Spiders, and ended up with something that does not quite fit either.

Anyway, it's not a rant of anything. Do keep posting pictures like that, it's really enjoyable.

Greenskins definitely are the most improved by this update. I'll have to give them a try one of these days, probably the next time I play TW: WH2. But I think I'll need a little break after this campaign, given that I am probably another 150 turns from completing it. I'll get back to it during the next week, though, I need a short break after playing all day yesteday.

Best do it sooner rather than later. The multiplayer folk have a habit of getting overpowered single player mechanics/units nerfed real quick. See: Dread Saurian.

But gobbo archers with the 400% armor piercing upgrade + explosive shot or multi-arrow fall into this odd place of being amazing, but with their shit range, such a hassle to work with.

The difference is that the lovecraftian gods aren't really even gods. They are just perceived that way.

Nyarlatothep is more of an immortal herald of the other Gods, and the only one who's as close to human-level intelligence that he actually enjoys bringing despair and madness to the worthless humies. Also makes for a cute anime waifu.

Dagon is literally a Babylonian god that got re-purposed into the god of the Deep Ones (the fish people) within Lovecraft's mythos.

Chtulhu is the closest of the big ones to just be a very powerful alien, but even he isn't alive in the conventional way, and thus can never be truly killed either.

Yog-Sothot is the god of entropy and is the the father or grandfather of the majority of all the lesser gods.

Azathoth is the blind idiot god who made the whole universe, by dreaming it while asleep, and that is going to kill it once he awakens.

Just to cover a few basis. So yeah... they are very much gods. There ARE however also several alien races that appear god-like to humans but are just powerful and very inhuman beings, but still mortal and vulnerable. So I can see why it can get confusing.

This has nothing to do with anything, but I have, for years now, had an idea in my head that basically boils down to there is a eldritch god out there with a cult trying to summon him back, and the only way to do it is to acquire the proper high priest to perform the ritual.

So the cult ends up kidnapping the would be priest only for it to end up being Ringo Starr, who is forced to sing the hymn that will bring back the dread lord. As it turns out the god is a mostly harmless blob of tentacles and eyes that really just wants to hear Yellow Submarine live.

So been watching a playtrhough of MK: Aftermath, since my PC can't run the thing unfortunately... for those who are curious...

Story mode is about 2 and a half hours long, with 2 possible endings, a good one and a bad one.

You play all the campaign as the DlC kombatants releases so far... minus the guest ones of course. Fugin is his MKX version, while Sheng Tsung and Nighwolf are their MK9 selves. They didn't show up in the main story because after refusing to work with Kronika, she trapped them in the space between spaces, so they could witness her victory without bein able to help, and were freed once God Liu Kang killed her. Unfortunately as the trailer already spoiled the sands of time can't be used without Kronika's crown, so Sheng Tsung is sent back in the current broken timeline to recover it, with Fugin and Nightwolf following him to make sure he doesn't do his thing...

Unfortunately God Liu Kang is still not very capable with the sands of time, and sends Sheng Tsung and the others back right before the final battle. So to ensure success the sorcerer recruis some extra firepower, by bringing back to life Sindel and undoing the whole double-undead thing, and Sheeva who is bound by honor to serve Sindel. Unfortunately the bullshit retcon about Sindel's backstory is now canon and not just some crap they made up for her Ladder, so even after being restored to life properly, she's still evil as fuck. She frees Shao Khan, (who apparently Kitana didn't kill, just blinded and imprisoned) and the two immediately conspire to dethrone Kitana.

Sindel and Shao Khan turn the final push again Kronika into a bloody massacre, pretty much everyone of importance is imprisoned and/or killed, which of course turns out to have been the plan of Sheng Tsung all along, who goes on confronting Kronika backed up by the two Khans of Outworld, and then eats their souls too for good measure, before beginning to tamper with the sands of time. At that point the real final confrontation happens as God Liu Kang appears on the scene and the two battle one last time.

The good ending has God Liu Kang defeating Sheng Tsung and resetting time. He then shows up at the Shaolin temple in ancient times, and appears to the monk destined to become the Great Kung Lao, setting up the events of the original story, but with him in the place of Raiden, and with all the possible butterfly effects that might have.

The bad ending has Sheng Tsung defeating God Liu Kang and feeding on his soul too. He then resets the timeline and creates a new one where he's the most powerful God around and has Raiden and Fugin as his heralds and slaves going around conquering realms for him.

I'm gonna take an educated guess that an eventual MK12 will use the good ending rather than the bad one lol

Not a bad expansion of the story overall, it's kind of a reverse Avengers Endgame, since you play as the bad guy for most of it, and almost everyone good get its butt kicked before Lord Liu Kang shows up and goes "Syke! This was all planned!"

I think this is one of those match-ups where who wins really just comes down to the storyteller's preferences and what type of story they're trying to make. Zeus and Cthulhu have been depicted and interpreted in so many different ways in various media and pop culture over the years beyond their original contextual roots that power levels—if you’ll forgive that now cliche and overused term—for these two are inconsistent to say the least. There are no hard, binding rules for these two characters; how strong they are and what they are capable of can vary greatly depending on the author and the continuity. Cthulhu gets his head popped by a boat in his debut story written by his creator (though he does regenerate that damage before going back to sleep, and the stars weren’t right in the heavens so he was much weaker than normal in his defense), but I’ve read stories featuring Cthulhu made since then by different writers that make him so invulnerable not even multiple nukes can so much as scratch him, and he can move/shape/alter multiple planets at once effortlessly with but a thought. (Its only in relatively recent years, thanks to Cthulhu essentially becoming the mascot and face of Cosmic Horror as a sub-genre for a lot of folks, and being the most well known and influential creation of Lovecraft, that he's treated like this Big Bad to end all Big Bads in some works when he's actually really low on the cosmic totem pole in Lovecraft's original lore; he's only a Great Old One, not an Outer God. That’s the power of fan popularity boosting a character far beyond what its origins were for ya.) As for Zeus, he was depicted as the most powerful god of the Hellenic pantheon, and he's got some impressive feats to his Greek mythology and in the various comics/video games/films/novels he's appeared in since to be sure, but he's not omnipotent. At least, I've never seen or read anything involving him depicting him in that way. (I have seen Zeus get killed by the likes of Darkseid, Kratos, and Godzilla in various fiction just to name a few.) So its anyone's game, really. You want a happy ending for your tale; go with Zeus. You want to go full Lovecraftian Horror; Cthulhu fhtagn.

So Dutch has been hunting Predators ever since the first film, and has Predator DNA mixed into him now that slows his aging. That's a concept from the old comics; I remember a story of a Japanese samurai who lived an extra-long life by consuming Predator blood, and Predators having a natural life span that can reach a 1000 years+ is something from the comics and novels as well.

Female Predators often being even more brutal and dangerous than the males is also from the expanded universe material.

Amusing how the game mocks the last movie. You can chalk up the Preds in that film as dishonorable rogues or traitors who's goals and actions would have been condemned or viewed with contempt by the rest of Predator-kind, and the Project Stargazer guys were morons who's theories and speculations were massively inaccurate.

Played a little Overwatch for the first time since Echo went live. She seems incredibly powerful if you can aim her primary fire. I can't. But with the mobility and sticky bombs and Execute laser, she's fucking nutty at times.

Tanks feel fragile as ever to play. I can do the job decently well, but man, if I don't have a healer to pump HP into my ass, I gotta play super careful. Not a great feeling when I'm supposed to initiate and absorb damage.

The characters are still unavailable to me outside of the story mode.
