I've just finished the main scenario content of Final Fantasy XIV's 5.3 patch, which more or less ends that particular story arc, and it is absolutely brilliant from beginning to end. Hats off to the writing team and the dungeon/trial designers, they have made a fantastic job during the last year.

I am now firmly in doubt that they will top themselves in the next expac, but they have accumulated so much goodwill throughout this one that I would be more than happy if it was just merely "okay".

Now to part 2 of the NieR raids.

Incidentally, I just started playing FFXIV a few weeks ago. Unfortunately it was three weeks before the game spontaneously went on sale for half off, and thus my request for a price reduction didn't take. I'm not entirely far, I only just finished the Ultima Weapon storyline, which apparently is just the surface of the game's story.

This game feels so different from other MMO's that I've played, which admittedly is a very shallow sampling on my part. I've grown to enjoy it, but it was a rough start as a beginner because so much is thrown at you all at once and not much of it is explained particularly well. I nearly gave up on it before a friend of mine insisted to stick with it a bit longer, which evidently I did.

I do not count the cards.

I have a whopping grand total of one amiibo. I never bought into the hype.

Only thing I collect any more is Shantae merchandise. Not all of it, but the model kits, the games. But when I was a younger man, full of vim and vigor and a reckless disregard for fiscal responsibility, I was into Magic: The Gathering, Pokemon, Halo (to an extent), a fortune on collectibles. All of it's gone and stolen, but hey, I have the memories. Hype soothed the soul back then.

I only have one of the Samus Amiibos (big shock I know lol) because I wanted a tiny bit of Metroid stuff to sit on my desk. It's very neat and well made for its price tag. I can see why people would be into them, even without the in-game interactivity, thei're fun little collectibles. I just spend a whole lot of money on collectibles of other kinds (coughcoughTransformerscough) and so I didn't start to pile those up too.

It is a good thing you started now because the latest patch deeply revamped the level 50 Main Scenario Quest, right after Ultima. It was seen as a huge grind with many moments before even if it slowly introduced important plot elements and started to build towards the next storylines - it did so in a really painful-at-times way.

Now the transition towards Heavensward will feel smoother, and from then on the story starts hitting a lot of very high points.

Plus now flight is allowed in all of the starting Eorzea zones, that will make compltion less tedious.

I know no one cares anymore, but I just want to talk about Persona 5 for a minute.

It is very strange that anyone who has played Persona 5 to completion believes Akechi is actually hyper intelligent.

He's a con man. He is literally conning everyone. All his detectives intuition, his deductions, his apparent ability to balance his school life with his job-- all of it is because he is using the metaverse to essentially 'cheat', and has been for at least 3 years. Hell after playing Persona 4, it's apparent that even his manufactured 'Detective Prince' personality is him trying to mimic Naoto (The previous 'Detective Prince', who was legitimately a genius.) Even his formidably in battle comes from the fact that he had literal years more experience than everyone else.

He is as intelligent as he needs to be to hold his con together. Otherwise he is, like many sociopaths, just extremely charming. Hell, his entire undoing came about in significant part due to the fact that the Phantom Thieves kept stroking his ego. "Oh you got us Akechi, you are so much smarter than us." "Oh wow Akechi, you really figured this problem out, and you are so handsome and charming." "We just cant compete with you Akechi!" All the while turning the tables on him, and deconstructing his entire plan.

This is even more apparent in Royal where, once his veneer is peeled away, he pretty much just serves the purpose of a stubborn thug who feels like he owes you. He doesn't even try to appear intelligent in the Royal content. He instead becomes 100% about raw power.

Edit: He doesn't even use the term 'deduce' right! Deductive reasoning is to eliminate all the impossibilities so that whatever remains, no matter how improbable, is the truth. He just uses it as a replacement for "figure out." It's like when people say the word decimate to mean "total loss".

I've only started collecting figures recently myself. Some Star Wars, Overwatch, Metal Gear, various brands of figures, too. It started because of my damned friend who went into toy design and he explained to me the technical beauty behind well-made figures.

I was about to say the questline immediately following Ultima has been a slog, and I'm wondering when I'll get into the next proper story arcs. People have been praising XIV's story for quite some time, and my curiosity has gotten the better of me.

Although I fucked up when I started a huge mission by the ocean that ruined my chances of completing a bunch of quests, I was rather fulfilled at the ending even though a lot of questions went unanswered. Questions like 'what about all the Yorha who deserted? What was happening with command to make them want to leave in such huge numbers? Were there any consequences to the choices I made to either help or not help certain quest givers? What about all the humans? What about the Yorha who was at the castle?' and such that come to mind right now. Damn, I think I might really have fucked up accidentally.

And after the ending when I chose to continue I was surprised that it took me back to the beginning, but now alongside my original story.
I'm really curious where the game is going to take me now. Am I going to follow alongside with a story line that supports my original play through? Will I be able to correct some mistakes I made along the way? I'm oh so curious.

I don;t feel that great playing as 9S after having the time of my life as 2B. I really like 2B.

But damn, what a game mechanic. Going from 3rd person shooter to side scroller to top down was flawless. Just a beautiful looking game with amazing amount of customization as to how you want to power up your player. The chip building mechanic is something I scratch my head at and wonder if I can build up chips to be super powerful and have 2 or 3 really powerful moves instead of a balance of attack/defense/support. Really I feel like there is a lot to explore in this game.

I loved playing as 2B. She's a hell of a sword girl and I love how she can have a cold attitude one minute, but then kick back and fish the next. Fishing was one of my favorite things to do with her. The way she flicks the pods into the water is awesome. I just loved it. Can't wait to continue.

Yeah, wish I'd had the money at the time for that Tali figure that was lovingly sculpted. Got the cheaper one, of course. Been plenty of statues I'd have loved to have, but the ones worth having are, naturally, a heady luxury. To say nothing of the many Japanese models I see of characters I like, that would bring great dishonoru to show to others, heh.

Mostly I am just flabbergasted by the general fandoms belief that he is as smart as he CLAIMS to be. And he isn't even as smart as he THINKS he is. He's obviously good at manipulation, but that's just a sign of his charm.

Actually the Adachi comparison is a good one. They fell ass-backwards into power. As soon as they were challenged in any real way, they crumbled.

I was about to say the questline immediately following Ultima has been a slog, and I'm wondering when I'll get into the next proper story arcs. People have been praising XIV's story for quite some time, and my curiosity has gotten the better of me.

To give you a rough idea, there were six (2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.5, 2.55) phases to the "post-Ultima, pre-Heavensward" content, each of one including a new trial (and parts 4 and 5 also include a dungeon) along with possibly having to do the hard version of ones you already did.

They are a slog, but I think it is somewhat by design as all those quests are actually building towards the stories of the next two expacs, both Heavensward and Stormblood, with the first part being more about Stormblood actually (so payoff comes later). Here's the complete numbers of how many of them were changed:



I will also add that those quests made me rather despise one of the NPC you have to interact a lot with, but this was also clearly by design as future events absolutely changed my mind.

Also, I do not know if you have done the level 50 24-player Alliance Raids yet (Crystal Tower in Mor Dhona), but they are now a requirement to complete the Shadowbringers story - so at the moment I think that no matter which job you're playing queue time should be rather short.

I just started Hildibrand's Bizarre Adventures, and this has been quite a wild ride.

If you subscribe to the humor it is fantastic. It also includes some very cool trials, and they used it to include some of the most beloved characters in the franchise that were a bit hard to add to Eorzea otherwise.

Ouch. Sorry to ear that. Most of the tabletop games/D&D gaming community is pretty chill and welcoming, but now and then you get that one asshole or group of assholes that can really skew your perception of the whole hobby.

Ah. Yeah, he's not a great mastermind or anything. Baldy McGoatee outplayed him hard, for one. But people seem to like charming psychopaths in general, so I'm surprised if the fandom has gone that direction, or even flanderized his character. Remember being proud early CZ had a faaairly grounded view of Tali, when the anti-Talimancer shit started up. Memories!
