Films and TV (Untagged spoilers)
Re: Films and TV (Untagged spoilers)
Almost done with Season 2 of DS9. Definitely consistently enjoying it now. I wouldn't say it's better than TNG yet. Still no really high points but also notably less low points.
I've started to see a little more character in Ben Sisko. He is now "standard issue Starfleet officer #24531 who likes baseball and also sometimes has a temper" but that's about it. He is the dullest character of the lot by a considerable margin thus far.
Only one actively bad episode so far which was a filler episode where a random flat character shows up on the station and opens a casino with some magical devices that somehow change people's luck by altering neutrino spin or something so people get lots of sprained ankles and computers crash and yeah....
Will almost certainly finish the series unless something very dramatic changes. Also probably won't keep posting updates until I'm done with it. I know Worf shows up at some point which will probably pick the show up as he's another of my favorites.

The middle of S3 is where it really picked up for me. And Ben Sisko is my favorite Star Trek captain. ^^
Damn, now I want to see the series again.

Re: Films and TV (Untagged spoilers)
A friend handed me over a "digital copy" of the new Emmerich sci-fi disasterpiece, Moonfall.
Good God, even by his standard it's fucking duuuumb. Basically every cliché from his previous movies, plus the occasional dick sucking of China or SpaceX, and combined with cool sci-fi concepts with all the science part sucked out of them.
I expected to be able to have fun laughing at it, but I was mostly facepalming through it.

I have seen the first 2 season and over all I think it is good, it does have some flaws but it is more star trek then star trek is right now.
the post is over, stop reading and move on.

Re: Films and TV (Untagged spoilers)
Got to Season 5 of DS9. The share of bad episodes has increased such that it's now tied with TNG on that front. The thing it does better than TNG is intercharacter relationships and using the setting well to set up ongoing stories instead of TNG "adventure of the week" format. A lot of people call this series dark but I wouldn't really call it that. It still maintains a thoroughly optimistic outlook.
My biggest complaint is they have seriously fucked up Worf. The main problem is that he just doesn't need to be in this show and there is nothing for him to do. Thus they have to keep making up weird conflicts that force drama and either make him re-enact problems he already solved in TNG or else just be the resident cliche Klingon and act petulant and aggressive for no good reason. He suffers from Varric in DA:I syndrome. He has no reason to be there and is obviously inserted awkwardly between the seams for fan service reasons.
Favorite characters are Quark, Odo, Garak, and Dax in no particular order. Worf is thus far the only clunker character. Jake started off being infinitely better than Wesley, got kind of annoying for a bit, and has now had a few decent episodes again. Sisko is now sitting at "better than Kirk, not as good as Picard" in the captain's roster.

I still have the high ground!

I always do appreciate it when Star Wars brings in King Kong and Godzilla homages, and the Book of Boba Fett didn't disappoint in that regard.

Absolutely disagree. Worf was basically a "strong guy who gets bitchslapped by the antagonist of the week to establish how strong he is" character on TNG, while here he was allowed to be the badass he was alleged to be. His relationship with Jadzia also is a favorite.
Re: Films and TV (Untagged spoilers)
He definitely did get thrown around more in TNG but considering it's not really much of an action show, this never struck me as a big problem. It was writer laziness to show a particular enemy was really strong. It was more just silly.
But most of his conflicts from getting banished from the Empire to having to choose between a human or Klingon rule or moral when faced with a particular dilemma are conflicts he already had and almost entirely resolved in TNG. To have them again, they have to retract progress he made as a character (as well as memory hole Troi and Alexander for reasons that aren't even addressed yet or at all). His restraint is also a hallmark of the character (because he is a Klingon among humans) and while he doesn't get "worfed" by the enemy of the week anymore, now he keeps having little temper tantrums old Worf would have sucked up and dealt with.
He's got a whole arc in TNG both plotwise and in terms of character progression. He's a central component of the whole Klingon Civil War thing and while stuff with K'Ehleyr, Alexander, Kurn, his human parents, and Troi has major ups and downs writing wise, it did produce a lot of character growth content and not just him failing in fights.
The Jadzia thing might improve but so far the main component has been him acting like an utter doofus on Risa and a few scenes in various episodes where one or the other of them is covered in brushes or scratches because Klingons have rough sex. Beyond that, he has yet to have any noteworthy relationship with anyone.
Still have 2 1/2 seasons to go so that's plenty of space for them to make something of him.

They do. He becomes integral again for the plot with the Klingon Empire.

Well, well, well. JWD trailer dropped early.
