I ate some German food today.

Man they really know how to eat.

Two big sausages, some schnitzel in a white wine mushroom gravy, roasted potato, spaetzle with bacon and Swiss, some light appetizers of various cured meats and cheeses on bread, and an apple strudel with vanilla gelato.

Maybe it will trigger in a few hours, but as of now I'm having no heartburn at all. Which really sits with my theory that the problem is Onions and heavy amounts of milk fat. (And possibly acidic foods unfortunately.)

I ate spicy Indian food the other day too and that didn't cause any problems either.

The thing that broke my suspension of disbelief was that apparently during the Three Kingdoms era there was a six foot tall Chinese woman.

Its an odd place to be. Clearly I have enough talent to be considered 'capable' or at least 'acceptable' in my area, yet at the same time, I'm not connected enough to work on my own. Or...do a better paying type of job. It frustrates me beyond belief when I see people with far less knowledge coming in, asking for advice and troubleshooting from me, and then going about their way making $200,000+ a year copying what I just figured out for them. Say someone spends three days trying to setup freeNAS for a small business and the OS is throwing corrupted data errors and they don't know why...if I can fix the problem in two questions and thirty seconds by diagnosing a lack of ECC support then why should their customers not be coming to me instead? I don't know everything and I am willing to admit that. Things like how VROC works and non plx/PCI-e bifurcation methods are a mystery to me. But if these people don't even know the basics of what they are supposed to be doing, why am I doomed to do their work for them at an even lower rate?
Helping people build gaming or workstation machines is fun. There are so many options that it is impossible for the average user to keep up. But if it is your JOB to do this for a company and you don't even know where to start....they should have found someone else.
Sigh. Such is life. Sorry for the rant.

A month ago I thought I was hot shit because my sister's work needed help setting up the phone lines in their office and hooking up the internet for them. It was nice to be able to write my own invoice for $35/hr., but I know damn well that's a one-off thing, and eventually they're going to need help when their black box server running Windows Small Business 2008 goes kaput and their entire operation goes down. And I have no idea how to set one of those things up, so even if they ask me for help again, I'd have to spend a week figuring this stuff out.

Anyway, I know that's a one-off thing because like the Strawman in The Wizard of Oz, I don't actually lack knowledge, I lack credentials.

You, good sir, can get credentials. You have more than enough knowledge, and you don't have the fear of screwdrivers that half the world seems to have. An Associates in IT seems like the most important thing you might not have, because you can certainly do the work.

I don't have a degree, no. I did a few semesters that were paid for with a scholarship but got kicked out because I refused to do the pointless busywork that was unrelated to what were my studies at the time. Much like almost everything that has gone wrong in my life, it is my own fault.

I know what that's like. I failed English once just because I have stage fright and really didn't feel like doing something silly like verbally reviewing a book in front of the entire class. A year or so later, I did it over the phone with a teacher and passed with few problems because they realized that I'm fully capable of expressing myself in the English language.

I hate how schools don't have options because they don't want to give special treatment, but then go babbling on about how we all should be respectful to our fellow man and such bullshit.
