@magnus: Gosh. I always mean to do an AAR of a campaign, but sitting down and writing all the shit that happened like that, I don't trust in my ability to commit to it.

On that note, I attempted to start an ERE campaign this morning, but the game decided that random crashes would be more fun. And since my Byzantine SS save is dead, I started a Russia campaign in base Med 2, which is going swimmingly after the slow start. Wasn't a great day, today, actually. One of those Sundays where everything seems to piss me off. Also, going through my achievements, I seem to have completed a Legendary ERE campaign, and I have literally no memory of doing this whatsoever. That is worrying.

I saw a funny thing online one time where somebody's luggage was stolen, but the thief neglected to remove the tags on it. So at some point he flew with it and the luggage got put on the wrong plane or something so the airline just mailed the bag to the original owner still listed on the tag with the thief's belongings still inside. Pretty satisfying. I'd try to find it but, meh, Monday.

I scared the shit into my dog today. I let her out front to take a piss, because we don't have land, and let her out on the patio when we got back up. There are few things Nintendo could do that would make me happier than if I woke up tomorrow and saw news for a remastered bundle-pack of Paper Mario 1 and TTYD for the Switch. If Nintendo refuses to make more PM games in the same vein as the first two, then at least give us that.

Cleaning out a HD to make room for new installations is always interesting, in the sense that I accumulate shit I forgot I had and/or long ago thought deleted.

Though I do need to build a new PC, especially if this year is profitable enough. Current rig is pushing 6 years. But I have a deep hole from last year to dig out of, plus other things I'd like to save for. Bleh.

I don't know enough about computers on how to update them and be current. I don't mean win 10 or anything, I mean to be current in my industry where technology is always changing and getting a little behind means not being competitive and loosing potential work. My computer is 3.5 years old and 1/8 the size it needs to be? I ended tat with a question mark because I don't know. I definitely have two fewer towers than I need. The solution seems to be prescribing to multiple technology mags and info sites and reading for a few hours every single day on new tech to consider. I'm just not that type of tech guy, things like that glaze over my eyes.

Oh yeah, last night I got to talk to Nick Wiswell who is the Audio Director at Turn 10 Studios who showed an audio presentation of Forza Horizon 4 in a Dolby Atrmos theater. He was also audio lead on PGR4 and I asked him about how they mocked up the Delorean. He said 2/3rd of the sounds were the actual engine, but they had to beef up one component because the stock car basically sounds like crap. Really cool look into sound designing a video game.


Also I was given a complimentary code for Dolby Atmos for anyone who has an Xbox One or Windows PC with a Dolby Atmos enabled home Theater system or through any set of headphones with the Dolby Access app. (That part was on the card they gave me). What kind of rig do you currently want?

This rig has held up surprisingly well for 6 years old and less than $2k, so that's what I would shoot for if I built a new one. I care more for performance than cutting edge visuals, so I would think $1.5k would be a decent goal to shoot for. 32 GB RAM, a newer, mid-range vid card, good processor (TW games bottleneck hard on them), my 1 HD is getting long in the tooth, but prices have surely dropped for 1-2TB. My SSDs should hold up a while, can reuse those. Then a mobo and case and some PCI cards. If it lasted another 6 years and could run the games I play at 144 FPS (or 30+ for TW), I'd be content.
