I think Sine nailed it. There's what you think the situation is and then there's what the situation really looks like. I feel all eyes are on me when I open my mouth and in reality, no one really remembers most of what anyone says anyway, just the memorable parts. I feel I'm always being compared to someone smarter, quicker, more competent, but that person might be looking at themselves the same way. And doing something active, something physical, is a great way to get past a mental blocker one has set up.

You're not alone in how you feel.

That's the biggest problem. It feels like I'm alone in all of this, because all my IRL friends are gone and I don't feel like I can take it anymore. My self-confidence is pretty much gone these days and every time I bring this up to someone in the family, they just tell me about how they or a lot of the rest of the family have similar problems, like it's a curse that it feels like I can't get out of, because if they couldn't, what chance do I have?

I cannot seem to purchase a desk chair that lasts more than year, regardless of cost.

My desk chair lasted 15 years. Granted I had the arm rests taped up with bubble wrap when the originals broke off and metal rebar I drilled into the seat to keep me from sliding out when the front flipped down.

Sigh...it's sitting in storage until I get an intern to work in my studio.

Two things;

1) 'Catherine' is going to be my rage game. Trying to get to the 2nd level in the 2nd dungeon (or first real dungeon) to get to a save spot was torture. My stupid sheep man kept getting stuck behind blocks and when I go to jump up he'd just fall off. And repeat that eight more times or so in a row. It's amazing I had 7 lives left when I saved.

Though it is getting me nostalgic over Persona 5. It's the little things, like when you open your phone to Catherine's profile and you hear her sigh, that make the world that much more enjoyable.

2) 'Forgotten Anne' is my warm happy place. It's a side scrolling platformer, but there's depth to it. You play a girl who exists in a world where everyday things go when that are forgotten and come to life. You have the ability though to suck the life force out of those things, so a lot of the forgotlings fear you. So you end up Darth Vadering yourself around trying to find some rebels who want to blow up a bridge.

The artwork is wonderful and at times I forget I'm not watching an old animated film. Plus the dialogue choices set it up for a second run through. Music is on par too, from wondrous and wispy to dark and quite tense.

All in all, I'm really enjoying these two games.

New OW hero: Echo, she's a sexbot

Fucking tank buster, holy shit. 3 seconds of free flight, with a Mercy-slow fall, so can fly indefinitely. Better version of Genji shurikens, plus an AOE sticky bomb, and an _execute_ beam. Goes from 50 DPS over 2.5s above 50% health (or barrier!) to 200 DPS over 2.5s under. Ult is to morph into an enemy hero, other than Echo, with a massively increased ult charge rate. On the stream, guy was able to get off 2 DVa bombs, 2 Bob's, etc, in the 15s duration.

Valdor: Birth of the Imperium didn't really offer any new insight into Valdor himself, but the "Birth of the Imperium" part didn't disappoint:

Story mostly takes place after the Emperor has pretty much conquered Terra besides a handful of holdouts that will fall any day, but before they launch the Great Crusade, and the Imperial Palace is still being built. The Thunder Warrior massacre has already happened, but it’s a classified secret to most people. The first High Lords are assembled. The Imperial bureaucracy is being established to help manage things.

Who Valdor was before becoming a Custodes is unknown, but he was someone important, as Emps spent considerable time, effort, and resources tracking him down and recruiting him.

The Thunder Warriors --called the Legio Cataegis-- were grouped into legions and had Primarchs leading them, but its stated that for the Thunder Warriors "Primarch" was just a rank and nothing more.

The real Primarchs were being grown deep in the Palace, but then a giant Warp rift forms and fucks up the lab courtesy of the Chaos Gods as per the lore. The destruction was so bad, only the Emperor using his vast psychic powers to hold the walls and ceiling from burying everything in millions of tons of rock and metal allows for any of the staff to survive or the data and research and Space Marine DNA samples to be saved before it all collapses into ruin. It’s believed by everyone that the Primarchs were killed by Chaos, until much later the Emperor senses they are still alive and scattered throughout the galaxy by looking through echoes in the Warp. Malcador says that the Chaos Gods used considerable power to break through Emp’s wards to pull a stunt like this off, noting it was an opening move in a much larger game. Valdor was of the opinion that the Primarchs could possibly be tainted by their scattering and that its a trap by Chaos, so he suggested they not look for them, but was overruled.

Malcador expresses surprise and some small disapproval that Emps refers to the Primarchs as His sons. He also mentions that Emps still has some humanity left, but that its fading over time. (Whether that's because of His own unique nature as the most powerful pysker ever, or because of His secret deal with Chaos He may or may not have done, or because in order to give His sons humanity He had to sacrifice parts of His own, is unknown)

Several characters remark that the Emperor is always rushing things, ever pushing the scientists and engineers under Him to work faster and faster. Most don’t understand why Emps acts like He’s on a time limit, not knowing that He’s playing 4-D chess with Chaos and has to keep on a schedule or His plans will fall apart.

The Thunder Warriors suffered from all kinds of horrible diseases, both physical and mental, because they were rushed and made with poor quality gene tech. Organ failure, psychosis, and worse. They were also very free-spirited, individualistic, emotional, and prone to disobeying orders. It was feared that even with their naturally short lifespans they would rebel, as they were becoming “an empire within an empire” and it was revealed their wanton reveling in violence was worrying, and seemed like a vulnerability Chaos could easily exploit.

In terms of power levels, Thunder Warriors are not on the same level as Custodes, but they are better than the average Space Marine 1-on-1, though they lack the same level of efficiency and discipline. Thunder Warriors attack with wild abandon; Space Marines are organized and orderly and act as a unit by comparison.

Some Thunder Warriors survived the massacre meant to destroy them, and they teamed up with a human coup that arose while the Emperor was away. The coup believed Emps was not just another warlord and were disheartned to see the more tyrannical policies of the Imperium begin to pop up, and planned to hold the Custodes on trial and assume control until the Emperor got back, mistakenly thinking He would take their side. Valdor reveals that he knew all about this rebellion and unveils the first batch of Space Marines that are fresh and ready to kill, and the human coup and their Thunder Warrior allies are slaughtered. The members of the coup had no idea about the Space Marine project, or that Emps was building fleets of spaceships to conquer the solar system and the galaxy beyond.

One of Emp’s top gene scientists named Amar Astarte, “the mother of the Space Marines” given her heavy involvement in the project (As Emps doesn’t have the time to do all the work Himself, and is busy trying to gather more tech from the gene-cults on Luna), rebels as she thought the Space Marines would turn out just like the Thunder Warriors, maybe even worse, without the Primarchs to stabilize their genes and guide them (She was unaware the Primarchs weren't dead), and destroys the lab and herself. Turns out the Emperor had backups of everything so her whole plan was in vain. The now empty lab is later repurposed to hold the Webway Project.

Now knowing that the Chaos Gods play games with mankind, and after dealing with the insurrection, Valdor starts the Blood Games/War Games idea for the Custodes so they can be prepared for any threat in the future.

Belisarius Cawl: The Great Work was an eye-opener:

The Pharos Device confirmed to be Necron tech.

The Scythes of the Emperor space marine chapter were almost completed annihilated by Tyranids.

Cawl can restore life to planets that have been consumed by the 'Nids; the process takes centuries, but he has the tech and knowledge to do it.

Cawl was just a talented young Tech Priest in training with a bright future ahead of him during the Horus Heresy, but after the war one of the Emperor's last surviving geneticists that helped Him work on the space marine project tried to upload his mind into Cawl's body so he could cheat death (as his life-extending drugs and treatments were failing to keep him going after awhile) and keep on working, but Cawl's mind proved too strong to be subsumed so he devoured the geneticist's mind instead, gaining all his memories and knowledge in the process. Cawl has since done this to numerous other people over the years (its not stated if he forcibly absorbed other minds to selfishly improve himself, or if he got their consent before doing so as a way to preserve knowledge that would otherwise be lost forever), increasing his intellect to vast proportions. He has so much knowledge and memories that he can't contain it all at once, and has to have many stored copies and backups, and undergo mind-wipes of himself every now and then to make more room. Cawl is essentially the dominant controlling personality of a legion of many other minds, like a conductor guiding an orchestra. Something the Emperor foresaw, given that He’d sometimes refer to His scientists as Cawl, before correcting himself as if He was going “Oops, spoilers! You don’t get absorbed into Cawl’s mind and become one with him until X more years down the road” to Himself as a joke.

Cawl can change personality traits like a normal person changes outfits depending on his whims or needs, so that explains why he can be serious and stoic in one story, and jovial and sarcastic in another.

Cawl likes to troll Ultramarines.

Cawl had a best friend who died long ago, and he still hasn't gotten over that death. It saddens him even millennia after the fact.

Cawl has a very special Primaris marine prototype that he kept for himself as an assistant; this individual is an unusually powerful psyker as well.

Cawl doesn't want to be Fabricator-General of Mars because the duties of such a position would take away too much of his free time; he wants to focus on science, not politics and management. Cawl has copies of himself since he cannot be everywhere at once (And they're totally not illegal A.I.s, honest! Perish the thought!) but one of them does want to become Fabricator-General. Cawl is surprised to find this out and notes he needs to look into this.

Cawl wants to master the secrets of Blackstone and necron tech so he can make his own anti-Warp pylons, with plans to not just close the Great Rift, but prevent the Warp from infecting/invading the material universe ever again. He just might be the best hope the galaxy has for dealing with Chaos.

Cawl runs afoul of a powerful C'tan shard, but manages to outwit it and survive the encounter.

Yeah, chances are they're gonna have to enforce a corfeu on us soon, because people just don't give a fuck and don't listen to authorities. The fact the usual parties of jackal and jackasses keep spreading misinformation and shit on our goverment and their efforts to contain the situation doesn't help either. But the root of the problem is the good old "We need stricter rules! Except for me, of course." mentality we Italians are all oh so good at.

As for the UK, prepare you buttocks, because from what I've seen and heard coming out of Boris' sphincter of a mouth, you probably are going to be in a position very similar to ours, soon.

Heck, considering that Europe in general is very much Old People Land, I expect most of the continent is gonna end up with a pretty high death toll.

I'm enjoying Doom Eternal so far, but I'm not particularly deep in it yet. The game is far more arcade-y than its contemporaries, and I don't mind it at all. It's a game that doesn't forget that it's a game. Your ammo pockets are a lot more shallower than they used to be, but it only encourages you to use your chainsaw more often, since scoring kills with it spawns a lot of ammo. It keeps you moving and you fundamentally have infinite ammo with that system in place.

My only real complaint about it so far is there are a lot more cutscenes, even if they are short ones. The 2016 game had very few cutscenes, and they rarely lasted more than a minute long. The ones here, to me, break that perfect flow that 2016 Doom maintained. It's just a nitpick.

But they still keep the spirit of you know what.
