I am now done with Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker's main story. It is officially in a quality tier that only Mass Effect 2 and The Witcher 3 have ever reached. One scene legitimately made me cry in front of my screen, and I think it only happened to me before when Geralt reunited with Ciri in TW3.
They somehow managed to follow the best written MMO expac ever (Shadowbringers) with the best written MMO expac ever. And I say "MMO expac", but really both Shadowbringers and Endwalker don't have to pale if you compare them to solo ones like Citadel or Hearts of Stone.
I found the trials and dungeons to be on the easy side (especially if you compare them to Shadowbringers' first trial which to this day can still easily cause many wipes)...but I spent so much time in harder content over last year that I believe I just got better at quickly figuring boss mechanics.
It really was an incredible ride. If you have some time in front of you, I encourage you to try it, it's 100% free up to level 60 - that's the base game + the first expac Heavensward, and while the starting story is rather average, if you manage to get through it, Heavensward and its Dragonsong War already is top quality stuff.
...although you might have to wait to try it for free as the servers are still quite stuck. I spent 2 hours in the login queue today, and paying customers have priority.

Just finished Cyberpunk, all the endings except the secret one (and the worst possible one). Got misty at a few points, which is remarkable, as the last time I remember that was Mordin's death in ME3. But an obvious main plot point, a side quest about a condemned man, and the Temperance ending still did it. Guess I'm still human after all.
Curious how an MMORPG could do that tho. SWTOR made an attempt at heavily story focused content, though had to reduce the complexity as the years went on. But I've heard FFXIV is almost like a single player story at times too, and obviously more popular.

I've been getting nostalgic vibes for Nier Automata and Persona 5 lately.
Been slowly playing through Ori and the Blind Forrest on Xbox and Senran Kagura Burst Re:newall on the PS5 AND Senran Kagura Peach Ball on the switch. SLOWLY going through those.

Yeah, I wonder if they'll show how and why he was let go.

Apparently reduced down to Lieutenant rank, though, as my very nerdy (and that's me saying that!) WH40K megafanboy friends are currently pointing out over Whatsapp.

It is basically a solo game in which you sometimes tag with other players. Since Shadowbringers, each (non optional) dungeon can either be cleared with other players, or with the NPC that are accompanying you in the story. In Endwalker, one of the three 8 player trials could also be cleared with NPC - and the other two could not because story reasons dictate that, in those two situations, your player has to band with other heroes in other to defeat the threat.
Because since Shadowbringers' final boss, there is now an in-story explanation as to why you get 7 other people to team up with you to clear trials. So even if it's multiplayer, it is made to make you feel like you are the hero of the story, and not just some guy watching important people duking it out.
I played with former WoW players, and all of them mention how much better the writing is there to make your character feel like s/he's an essential part of the story and not just a random bystander. Because without spoiling anything, you being "the Warrior of Light" is extremely meaningful and deeply connected with the main story arc that started back in 2.0 and that just ended in 6.0.
You really are playing your story like you do in a solo game.
By the by, here's a commission I orderedof my Warrior of Light.

Since we are on the topic of FFXIV, what put me off trying to continue the story more than 10 hours into the start of the game (aside from the grind of doing MMO "collect ten bear asses" quests, which is such a bloody turn-off for me nowadays), was the very awkward way my character was handled in cutscenes, where I basically was reduced to standing around and making gestures or sighing. Does this get solved in any way in later expansions or does it stay the same? I mean, we had voice actors for our characters in SWTOR, shouldn't be too much of a leap to make your protagonist character have a personality and, y'know, have opinions and voice lines.

Well, how many people touched by the Warp and sold off to the Inquisition get to NOT die a horrible, painful death? Tne fact he's alive and still an Astartes is still big!

I concur and very nice to see him again. Leandros can get fucked, I agree.
Man, my friends sperged out if Titus even can receive the Primaris enhancement. I have no idea in the world what "Rubicon Marine" means.

No, that is not solved, even though it is handled better. The Warrior of Light remains something of a Heroic Mime, because it never is voiced - except for one moment in the story. Which kind of makes sense because in universe, all playable races have slightly (or very) different accents and ways of speaking, so you would have to hire dozens of VA to dub the WoL alone depending on its gender and race.
It is a Final Fantasy RPG, so the story is linear, even if over time the staging gets better at handling said lack of voice. You'll still nod or bump your fist in your hand hundreds or thousands of times over the entire game. There also are many verbose scenes that are not voiced, so you have to read text to get through.
Sidenote but the voices probably are part of the reason TOR struggled over time. It's great to have Jennifer Hale voicing the female soldier, but now that means you need to hire a very popular (and, I assume, expensive) voice actress every time you want to add some story content...along with, unless I'm mistaken, 15 other VAs dubbing the other genders and classes available, including other famous VAs (Nolan North...). The WoL is not voiced, so you only have to care about the NPC's dubbing.
Which dramatically improves over the course of the game. 2.0 has some absolutely terrible (to the point of being funny) dubbed lines, including those from Gaius van Baelsar or Haurchefant (in French at least). For the last two expacs the dubs have been flawless.

You mean Rubrik Marine? Those are Chaos Marines, specifically part of the Thousand Sons (you know, Magnus the Red's Legion) who got their whole body consumed by the Warp and are just souls bound to a suit of armor and not much else.
As for the Primaris update... people are STILL mad about that? lol

Nah, must be something else. They probably were using some in-talk of local WH40K tabletop groups, so no idea what they were furiously discussing about.
And, yeah, they didn't like that Titus is apparently a Primaris.

Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
I mean... let's be real for a moment, the Primaris are just a clumsy excuse to get new Space Marines models with better proportions and that scale better with the normal human minis. It is a story copout born from commercial necessity. And, sure, it could have been written better within the lore.
Are they BAD looking tho? Nah. Does it make sense for the Astartes to get an upgrade after literal millennia of stagnation and slow degradation? Most definately.
GW has made its big share of fuckups in recent year, but of all the things to get mad at them for, are we really gonna throw an hissy fit because they updated their best selling faction across ALL of their games? Come on...

Not every space marine who goes through the upgrade to becoming a Primaris survives the process, so undergoing the procedure is described in-universe as "Crossing the Rubicon Primaris". Used as both a "passing a point of no return" metaphor for the 40k setting, as well as a mark for those who are especially strong because they survived what some did not. Some fans differentiate the Primaris marines that were made as such from their very beginning from the ones who upgraded to such later on after being normal Space Marines as "Rubicon marines".

Yeah, just based on my personal observations, most of the animus against Primaris marines isn't in their concept or looks, its just the extremely sloppy way they were brought into the lore. But it has died down a lot since their introduction. Similar thing with Age of Sigmar. The first couple of editions were really bad, and fans were rightfully pissed, especially coming after the poor handling of the End Times, but some substantial changes to both the tabletop and its lore has won over a lot of people.
Edit: Also, there was a period of time where GW flooded the tabletop with Primaris models at the expense of everything else, so that garnered a lot of annoyance and calls of biased favoritism, heavy-handed marketing shoving it down everyone's throats, and trying to force it to be popular rather than allowing it to happen naturally, as well as neglect for other factions.

Ah, too bad. Well, I guess I am staying away from the game after all.
Hale and every other main voice actor in SWTOR were locked in with long-term contracts, so I think they don't cost all that much for having been employed for a long time.
The problem why SWTOR struggled was that, aside from its story content (which had its own problems of not being up to par in terms of emotional investment with games like Mass Effect or Dragon Age or KOTOR, due to the MMO format), was a bog standard MMO and still is, basically a WoW clone.
