Cain battled two chaos space marines and won both fights (with a little help from Jurgen, of course) and dueled a space marine to a stand-still in a training battle. He went up against Orc warbosses, Tyranid hive tyrants and Genestealer patriarchs and won each fight (again, with Jurgens assistance). I highly doubt his official art is much of an exaggeration, aside from him using a laspistol instead of the boltpistol he is commonly depicted as.

Well done on dodging the Wrath of Ghandi until the last stretch. Symbolic irony is very important. Go or do anything special? Swim in the Ganges? Take over the Taj?

(Apologies, this has taken me quite a few days to write) India, what do I write? It's another world, different lifestyles, different values, different taste in foods.

First thing that hits you is the smell. Coming from So Cal I'm used to the smell of wild fires somewhere far off, but in India there is are no fires, it's just the smog. And it's thick and everywhere. Even in the countryside. Second thing are the loose animals. Monkeys and dogs running in the streets everywhere. (I only saw monkeys at the airport and once walking around the back of an apartment building.) All the dogs look like they're from the same ancestor, they all have the same shape to their heads, even with their varied color. Next are cows. They're sacred and are free to go wherever they like. They even like to herd across the freeways between cities, or even hang out in the middle of traffic intersections. You just simply drive around them.

The next thing that hits you is the traffic. BOY is there traffic. Cars, bikes (two wheelers), pedestrians, Tuktuks (rickshaws) all occupying the same space. Horns beeping constantly. But everything is moving and there's no real stopping. No stop lights, just yielding to whoever is in the intersection. It's crazy, but it works. I only saw ONE traffic accident and it was a flipped car out in the country. (Every car and bike has scuffs on it though. Cars are small, four doors.)

My friend lives in Ahmedabad (pronounced Am-debad) and there are 8 million people living there. It's a living city, so not much for company or corporate buildings. Every building you see most likely is an apartment building. They're quickly building these huge buildings to get people off the streets. My friend's building can hold maybe 1000 people and there are 20 or so buildings going up in his area.

There are people everywhere. Of course that's true in the city, but the country side too. You look down a field and there's a person. Look the other way to another field and there's another person. A forested area, a person. A small hill, there's a hut there with a person.

There are old places too, like the palaces in Udaipur in the state of Rajasthan. Palaces a thousand years old that held kings for 60 generations.

I attended a wedding, so that was the most special thing I could think of. The groom needs to bring an entourage to the bride's hometown to marry her and take her away, so we drove 8 hours from Ahmedabad to Jamnagar. The people there including her family were so grateful for me and the 3 other Americans that came. We enjoyed their music and all they had to offer and they were absolutely thrilled that we traveled around the world to be there. I never felt more welcome and appreciated. Hindu weddings have a lot of rituals. Like, imagine a shit ton of rituals and times that by three. The official wedding ceremony (which was on the 2nd day of the wedding) took about 4 hours and that was after the groom entourage made their big arrival and the families convened to kick off the wedding. All in all the entire wedding day for us in the party was about 10 hours. And the rituals went on for a few more days.

The food. I did what I could for four or five days, but by that time I kind of got tired of the monotony. Gugarati food for me seemed to be like this; red stuff, green stuff, yellow stuff and orange stuff eaten with a flat bread called roti. It's all vegetables and varied levels of spiciness, but the texture was pretty monotonous and I started craving some variety. When I found some in samosas they were a delightful change, however they were filled with the same green/red/yellow/orange stuff I found in my meals before. Breakfast is a puffed rice dish with turmeric and these dry, bready things with spices. I was kind of getting sick to my stomach at the end. I never thought that would happen, but I couldn't take the green stuff anymore. I'm told most Indian food in the US is Punjabi food, from the north, whereas I was being fed Gugarati food from the west. But hey, I gave it the ol' college try and was delighted that I got to eat homemade Indian food.

I'll definitely go back, since I have friends there now and it'll be interesting to see how India could change in 10 years. However I don't see the smog changing. It took Los Angeles an entire generation to cut back on the smog and that's with all the environmental regulations pushing that. I don't see India doing that since they're still 'Developing'.

All in all, it's an interesting place. I didn't see any fights. I didn't see any graffiti. There are no self important people that I saw. No gang or gang culture that I saw. No one owned the road or showboated in their fancy car. No one flipped anyone off. I don't think anyone was murdered in Ahmedabad while I was there. They have masses of poverty, but nothing like the poor I'm used to. Not fat little kids anywhere. No morbidly obese people. There was rubble everywhere, trash everywhere. I wonder what it'll look like if someone decided to pick up the trash.

And everyone was kind enough to hand me bottles of water. Oh and Hindi music is interesting. Like they decided to put their ancient folk music on top of the latest pop beats. It's an acquired taste.

OW2 has atrocious matchmaking. I needed 2 wins as support for the last weekly quest. The reward is pointless. Currently 1-27 or so. I lost count, but I know I got one win, and my entire visible match history is losses. Over and over and over. Which is statistically incredible, there's no possible way my rank should be high enough to no warrant placing me in a match I can carry, yet it's not happened. Very irritating.

Got my win just now. 2-27. 29 matches to get _2_ wins. I don't know what kind or arcane matchmaking they use, but it reeks of "engagement over skill" priority.

@magnus: Ooooh, that one. Yeah, that's a peach. I was thinking of the books, pretty sure Vale makes a footnote about how the official propaganda looks more handsome and muscular at some point.

As I recall, he parried and held off a mostly healthy CSM long enough for Jurgen to bring up the melta, then he properly beat a heavily wounded one later, during a mission at...some sort of oil platform overrun by Slaaneshi?

Hum, I can't recall that line by Amberley. Also not sure where the second CSM fight was, although I kinda sorta remember it was in the same book. Too many books at this point (and yet not enough of them...).

Ah, yeah this is an umbilical one so it's not stomach, or it might be, but it's most likely intestine.
And the op is TBD as, well, backlogs, covid recovery of the NHS, being on the NHS and not private, and it's not unlivable.
So, yeah. On the list but it's gonna be some time.

Short, but succinct. Brevity is the soul of wit!

But seriously, I'm tickled pink you had such a good time. Sounds very similar to what my (Indian) friend experienced the few times he's returned to the motherland. Impressed you _remembered_ all that, my memory is bad as is, but it'd be fried after the stimulation of visiting an ancient country for a long drive and a big party! The food thing I get, probably wanted to keep it "safe" for the pale-faces, if I had to guess. But sounds like a great experience, and I hope you had someone explaining the meaning of all the Hindu rituals. Did you get paired off with a bridesmaid, like we do? Heh.

And yeah, for as difficult as "developing" is, there's clearly something to it that we've lost. In LA in particular. Still, welcome home, glad you had such a fun, interesting vacation!

I have an anthology on my shelf, but I couldn't begin to guess where I heard it, sorry to say. The second CSM fight was right after the first one. Was a pair of Khorne berserkers, as I recall, wiping out the Slaaneshi garrison, and the second one Cain found was nearly dead, so he it was more of an equal match.

Ah, our guts slipping out of place is such a fun thing, huh? Well, fingers crossed you get it done sooner rather than later. At least with a hiatal, I can cope with OTC meds and lifestyle changes.

I shaved for the funeral tomorrow (today). I don't like it. My face looks too young, my skin is smooth and cold, this isn't natural. Starting to finally fill out the cheeks though, so despite my unlucky genes, might be able to rock a well trimmed, mostly solid beard eventually.

My mom's going in for surgery tomorrow. They're putting a heart stint (think that's what it's called) into her brain to stabilize the artery that caused her stroke earlier in the summer. It's a unique procedure because of the special kind of stroke she had. It needs to be done. So if everything goes as planned I'll get to be with her for Xmas as she gets discharged. Here's hoping for that result.

Here here to solid beards. Mine still doesn't really connect to my sideburns yet. Doesn't look good with much length so I have to keep it somewhat short. Hope your day goes well.

I have full coverage, sideburns, cheeks, chin, mustache, but the density is painfully slow to fill out. Let it grow long enough that the top of the cheeks was down to the jaw, and kept the jaw trimmed, and it was starting to look decent, but for the inability to get the hairs to lay flat, and my habit of pulling the ones around my mouth.

Watching the Arctic front come down from the north was kind of beautiful. It was 50 and rainy until around 2PM, then very quickly, dropped 30 degrees, droplets on the deck froze in place. The wind was brutal too, felt bad about ordering Wendy's (had a coupon), so tipped the hardworking delivery boy a little extra.

Hope you guys all had a merry Christmas and happy Hanukkah and all the holiday jazz, Clan Z. Spend some time with loved ones, light a Yule log, drink some eggnog, eat a hearty meal, enjoy some gifts, safe and swift travels through all this heavy traffic and winter weather, stay warm through these power outages, and recharge your batteries so you can face the New Year with grit and gusto.

Thanks for stopping in, Spartan. Trust you all had a good Christmas! Was a better one that previous years, the specter of COVID and all that, plus been a rough year for both families, so I think people were happy to have something to celebrate to cap it off.

Somehow my nieces have grown into women in the decade plus since I've seen them last. This is strange and confusing, surely I'm not..._that_ old yet.

Got some nice stuff, though anything more than nothing is to be appreciated. Gift cards I can use, a nice blanket, Masters of DOOM (novel), some snacks, a nice fisherman sweater, turtleneck, and a bit of cash. Would be pleasantly tipsy right now, but got a nice little job between now and New Years to hopefully even out the balance sheet for the month. How'd you all make out?

Merry Christmas everyone. My mom's great, surgery was a success. The stint was placed successfully and she's recovering nicely. Thanks for the well wishes everyone.

Fantastic! Everything's coming up Sci! For the trifecta, are you about to land a major music gig? Heh.

Looks like I'll hit 4/6 for my New Years resolutions. Not terrible, not great, could hypothetically do the last 2 if as soon as we finish this job we're on, I grind them out, but eh. Think for one of next years goals, I'll install a site blocker into Brave, put the sites I waste the most time mindlessly browsing on it, though I don't like the idea of having to use a tool for something that should be a matter of willpower.

No Trifecta, but I did have something happen recently that I guess is kind of good news.

I had a comment on my soundcloud account a while back about my music from someone who claimed that what I wrote during the pandemic was loads better than what they've done. After researching the commenter I found that they were a very close friend I had growing up. Possibly one of my best friends ever, who about a decade ago disappeared from my life without a word. I missed him terribly and my life just wasn't the same. So when I wrote the commenter about how excited I was to hear from him he remained low key and just wanted to talk about the music. Okay, then lets talk music. So I shared with him the album I've been working on and we had a zoom session yesterday where he showed me pretty much all that I've been trying to learn the past two years about improving my music. I was really impressed because I wasn't even aware of his interest in this sort of thing. What he showed me is actually going to help me out loads. I feel like we're far from being in each others lives at this point, but at least I feel like we can have music discussions off and on in the future. It feels a little bitter sweet, but I'm happy that he's excited to share with me something that he's good at.

I'll take that.

Gosh. Year of reconnecting with old friends, it seems. Bittersweet for me as well, but I'm very glad to talk to them again too. So I'll be glad for you as well, and that you're bonding over your passion!
