This is why I roll my eyes at people giving high praise to most AAA games that come out these days. A lot of them are only entertaining for about a week and then they fall into some weird monotonous grind similar to an MMORPG, because the big developers still think that if you tack on some light RPG mechanics onto your game, it becomes an instant hit.

I'm also glad that the open world craze is finally starting to die down, since that's just like what the video said, a sold gimmick done in an attempt to keep up with current trends and rake in the money rather than doing something innovative.

Which is also why the big developers have to do more than add one gimmick to make me interested these days. Shit, my recent purchases have been Astroneer and Everspace, simply because I was on a space high and they delivered because they were different and fun in the "I can turn my brain on autopilot for an hour or two" kind of way. That and I was desperate for a space flight game that wasn't repetitive or drawing things like traveling to another system out as much as possible and calling it innovation *coughEliteDangerouscough*.

Thank goodness someone agrees with me that boxcutter-chan is best girl, my two closest anime fans always like to hoot on about a certain maid.

Shameful. Sachi is a quality waifu. But you need a Kuudere like Yumiko to properly bring out Yuuji's dere.

I don't know what you guys are talking about, but I want in. What's the VN?

Also Katawa Shoujo, Shizune is best girl, Hanako is rrrrrrright behind her by . that much with Rin in third.

Can't say I agree with him on his point about Naughty Dog at all, however I do find games a lot harder to get into nowadays. Biggest example of it was Deus Ex which I was incredibly hyped for, but found soulless and was constantly looking at my 2nd monitor to distract myself. He pretty much hits the nail on the head with his general viewpoint.

The Grisaia series. It has five different girls, the first game follows the main character's joining of a school for people that don't quite fit in. If if were to describe it in a few words. It's a heartwrenching but charming rollercoaster ride with some really unique characters, and top-top tier main character.

The second game has the after stories and the introduction of Yuuji's wild past as perceived by the girls reading from a document, then the third cuts back to real time and has some KICKASS TEAMWORK YEAH.

And also KS best girl is Emi.

How long do the stores take to play?

Emi was the first story I ended up with and it was really fun. My heart just goes out to the blue, purple and red head.

The first Grisaia VN is LONG.

Many people take 40-50 hours just to get through the common route to the point that you pick waifu routes.

Then the routes themselves each take hours.

It's a commitment, it has the tag "long common route" meaning you'll be playing the common route for a good 1-15 hours, and each girls routes around 5-7 hours.

Most of the people who read through the First Grisaia take their time.

Savor it. Its a VN you work through slowly over the course of a week or so. There's no way it takes someone 1 hour to get through the common route of the first Grisaia if they're actually taking the time to enjoy it.

Just as I thought that Everspace couldn't get tougher after my skirmishes with elite pilots and having barely any resources to avoid their pursuing capital ships, it decides to throw a solar flare environment hazard, a nanomachine swarm and enemy corvettes at me. At the same time.

This game is a lot of fun (think Elite: Dangerous plus fun, minus tedious travel and the generated events of FTL) for being early access, but hot damn, it can shove a broom handle up your ass without warning.

I have been enjoying The Old Republic again since December. I still dislike that it is an MMO, and that the game would have better served as a closed single player experience.

It's generally pretty easy to avoid most of the MMO bits and just play it single. That's what I do.

See, the reason I really liked Persona 4, and Naoto, was that while it wasn't a harem story per se, it hit on a lot of the stereotypical plot points. But it was, you know, competent. You had character, you did things, you create history and talked to each other, grew as people, so the cliches were actual moments of growth and therefore good. By the end of the game, where you're really emotionally punished for being a womanizer if you try to go that way, the resulting relationship feels earned. Like the characters are actual (simplified) people who really like each other and want to be together.

As opposed to the usual story, where an aloof, asexual, average Japanese man somehow has legions of impossibly curvy women, some half-Japanese with the blond hair, throwing themselves at him for explained reason. And then lots of walking into rooms at bad times and tripping into tits. Storytelling and motivation matters, dammit!

If you can read moonrunes there is a monster girl high school visual novel that I've heard about, can't read them myself. I'm also unsure what the story/sex ration is.

One problem I had was that I left the game for a while and then I couldn't for the life of me remember what I was doing. Well, that and the combat was boring me to no end. Felt like chess was more action packed.

Soo... after weeks of thinking about it (not non-stop, of course lol) I decided I want to give a shot again at miniature painting. For a first test-run I'v got me a cheap Tyranid Genestealer Broodlord on eBay and will grab some pain and tools in the next days while I wait for the xeno to show up in my mailbox.

We'll see how it goes. Kinda want to paint it in a bit of a cold and techno-organic paint-scheme, ala Alien. Might be a total cathastrophe, might turn out really good. I'll try to take some pictures with my crappy photocamera once the deed is done.

Imperial Agent had the best base story, plus branching, at least on the Imp side. Only Pub I ever played was a full Dark Side Knight, which was "eh" until the end. Every now and again I get the urge to play an MMO with some story, so I resub for a little while. Probably will do so in the next few weeks, since I'm feeling the itch.

@Alien: I was going through my old closet in SC during Christmas, found some 40k figures I'd painted years ago. 2nd Edition Daemonettes, with the tits, some Spess Muhreens, IG, and a few Tyranids. I actually was impressed with the job I did, not half bad at all. Though the hobby's so fucking expensive, whenever I want to do what you're doing again, I look at the prices and quail.

Well, the plan's to buy very sparingly, like one thing a month or so, I don't have that much time to pain figurines anyway. But it'd be nice to take a break from the PC and the paid art stuff and do something else for a few hours now and then. And I don't intend to build an army that's competitive, so I'm zero hurry. I'm a collector, not a player.

Ideally, I would like to do an Alien-inspired Tyranid swarm, and a detachement of Blood Ravens (because the Dawn of War games a f-ing awesome) to send against them. But we shall see. I've learned alot since I used to paint LotR miniatures, but I haven't painted a figuring of ANY kind in years.

I have no ability to have perspective on this, but in my gut, I'd say that growing up during the 8-bit->Xbox 360 phase gives us a better grounding than kids who've only ever known the last 2 console generations. Because graphical improvements aside, games have been stagnating hardcore in the last decade.

I started on the Atari. Forget exactly which one.

Then went Nintendo, Sega, PS1, PS2, PS3.

PC manifested truly in 2005 when I built my own.

Gaming has declined, but there's only so much developers can do if they want to sell. Problem comes from parents still thinking gaming is a kids thing. It's not. I know plenty of people my age who are parents and game like savages.

When you get hit with a game that's a throwback to its origins, like DOOM, we have a split. Those who think it's ungodly, just balls out awesome, and those who are wrong not privy its appeal.
