Almost tempted to just say "if so many idiots want to get out, just let them out and let Natural Selection take its course". Then I remember I have ashtma and that I kinda like living, and that there's plenty of people in my same situation, or similar ones...

Ah, yes. "Very fine people" according to trump.
Couple things. I have been saying that trump encourages violence and sedition. I get mocked for it. Then his supporters storm government buildings, start spouting some nazi shit, and he supports them in public. trump's fellow rich assholes are funding and encouraging this behavior during a public health crisis ie: a pandemic.
This behavior has been going on for some time now, and this is just another proof positive incident.
Also, if nazi's were socialist as GAC vehemently says they are, then these people shouldn't be pulling nazi tactics. You know, since they're socialist and all.
Oh, and there's pictures of these walking disease vectors screaming at police in their faces. Turns out blue lives don't matter to these douche-canoes.

I don't understand the message she's going for. Is she calling the government Nazis for refusing to let her work? Which is the opposite of the quote. Or is she a Nazi calling her fellow travelers Jews and taking the slogan literally? Which would be insulting her own people. It makes no sense.

I've noticed a growing discord between the Boomers, who love cops, and the younger conservatives, when it comes to cops actually. Not in the leftist sense of targeting minorities or ruining "a good time," but as extensions of the State and all that. Which, given the way the left is in turn moving towards authoritarianism, makes it seem like the positions on cops might be reversed in a few decades.

She is saying that she should be free to work, and for that uses the Auschwitz entrance slogan, targeted at Illinois' governor JB Pritzker. Who happens to be Jewish.
Re: Politics/Slapfights - Ancient history to modern day!
@Sine: Being Jewish is hardly effective cause to not be called a Nazi these days. Though at least one instance of a protest sign being photoshopped from it's message to "Work Will Set You Free" has been shown to me, it's not that specific one you linked.
---
Allegedly minors on Instagram and other yoot platforms are mass flagging NSFW artists (Or at least those in the JoJo fandom who draw underage smut? It's not clear, and the specific example isn't important here) to get them banned off Twitter. Artists are in turn locking/purging their accounts, though no one I follow has been dinged. None of them draw underage art (anymore) that I'm aware of either, but after the Tumblr purge, it's really only a matter of time, given the way Patreon/payment processors seem to dislike them.
But on an ideological level, I'm conflicted. Because I completely support the arts, free expression, smut, gaudy, tasteful, what have you. But on the other, younger people rejecting pornography and the lies of hedonism is heartening. I suppose if they had focused instead on smut with real people, it would be easier.

I don't think the issue here is that the governor is called a Nazi. If anything, "Arbeit macht frei" is more of a nazi joke, considering where it was written. So doing it towards a Jewish personality, I don't know, it's pretty distasteful. That is roughly similar to a white guy meeting Obama and doing a watermelon joke.

Derision and comedy, even if it falls flat, applies to everyone of everyone sub-group, so long as we claim to aspire for an equal society. Especially in a protest, no matter how gaudy the sign or effigy. But hey, that's extremism depending on how you look at it.
Also, Michael Flynn's case has been dropped by the DoJ. Probably some arcane legal crap between that and him being cleared and all, but better late than never. Pathetic that it took years of ruining his life and legacy over this, and only when evidence it was in fact a setup came out that it cleared up. Incompetence saved the day. Too much power, our praetorians.

He pleaded guilty.
Burr's DOJ is going for broke, trying to free everyone who's been caught so that when trump loses the election they won't be locked up for a real amount of time.
This is precisely why trump and company are bad for the US. They break the law, and get it covered by fellow law breakers. They should all be hanged.

Riiiiiight. That's definitely the right takeaway from this. Can always Trust Mobius to give us the most blinkered TDS perspective on any happening.

I'm sure Biden will shamble to victory in an unstoppable sniffing tide in November... kek. Fucking Christ Mobius it's fucking adorable how you're still banging on.

Yeah because his actions will either result in him making nationalistic choking noises because he got exposed to COVID19, or he'll lose the election because the last 3 years have been galvanizing everyone with a brain against him.
I admire your pluck, though. 39% of the nation agrees with you, and that's a minority. I trust you'll fall on the sword of nationalistic pride like the rest of them.
Look, Flynn plead guilty and should be in prison. Barr doing his shitbag thing doesn't change the fact he's guilty. He admitted as such.
Tell me, GAC. When you get pulled over do you declare that you're a sovereign citizen?

What polls do you look at, Fox news? The actual numbers for trump are falling. The only polls you are seeing are bolstered by your fellow trolls.
And you like it when traitors go free...No wonder you're so fucked up.

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/trump-approval-ratings/?cid=rrpromo
That's an aggregate of weighted polls.
Right now Trump is at 43.4% Approval, 51.4% Disapproval.
Maximum recorded disapproval was 57.3%, but that was in April 2017. In 2019 his disapproval varied between 52.6 and 54.9. He briefly got under 50% in the beginning of April - but that was before American deaths started piling on, so it has increased again recently. In general, there always is an approval boost when there is a national crisis, and he got his, but it really looks like the effects have dissipated already.
When it comes to approval, his lowest ratings were also in 2017 (36.5%). But, again, since early 2019 there has been little variation, he spent the entire year between 39.3 & 43.8%. He peaked at 45.8% in late March, before going back to ~43%.
So the gradual trend up on average is only partially true. He did trend up between 2017 and 2018, but his approval ratings have mostly remained unchanged for the last 2 years. He got a small spike when Covid started, and also had another small boost in December (~2pts, might be related to the Dem primary taking front stage), which has mostly disappeared, and no one knows how it will evolve in the remaining 6 months because it is literally an unprecedented situation he has to deal with. I mean, unemployment rate has soared from 4 to 14% in one month (which makes it obvious why he is so keen on reopening the country, Covid be damned), so it would be a bit foolish to predict what the state of affairs will be three months from now, let alone 6. It will depend on how the country reopens, how many people die from Covid, how long some states have to stay closed, how many jobs are lost, and how both sides manage to spin it.
And the disapproval "falling", well no, I don't know where you get that from. It did fall from 53 to 49 in late March/early April, but then it went back up to 52 equally as fast, and now it's right back in what can be considered "noise variation".
For the record, at similar moments of their mandates:
- Trump is 43.4% A, 51.4% D
- Obama (W) was 48.6% A, 46.3% D
- Bush (W) was 47.5% A, 46.7% D
- Clinton (W) was 54.0% A, 37.8% D
- Bush Sr (L) was 40.6% A, 47.4% D
- Reagan (W) was 52.1% A, 36.8% D
- Carter (L) was 44% A, 46,7% D
So his numbers are more similar to those of presidents that did not get reelected. However, the demographics have changed a lot in 40 years, so in the end it will boil down as per usual to a small number of states deciding who gets the crown. Covid deaths in swing state might tip the scales - the more people who know of a Covid casualty, the more popular lockdown will be I assume, while on the other hand low casualties will mean an impopular lockdown.
For my part I see it at a 50/50 right now because a campaign with Trump is volatile by essence, and volatility has been increased hundredfold with the Covid crisis, so it's basically a coin toss.

Related to a silly kerfuffle in the FGC, do you guys innately value the opinions of women differently than men? On any topic, really, but group cultures if you need specifics.

Not really. Experience is a more important factor in valuing an opinion.

Um...
None of that has ANYTHING to do with how the US is handling Wuhan Flu. It barely has anything to do with her being a healthcare worker.
If I didn't know better, you were looking for any piece of yellow journalism you could find that shits on the US, but you wouldn't do that would you?

Re: Politics/Slapfights - Ancient history to modern day!
Ah, "Wuhan Flu", the wording that makes the Chinese responsible for it and absolves from all wrongdoing afterwards. Much better than its scientific appellation of Covid-19 or SARS-CoV-2, or just Covid. Then again, scientists are evil now, yes? They want to hurt the almighty ECONOMY for something as trivial as avoiding deaths. Bad, bad scientists.
In any event, since I need to spell it out, yes it was a joke, mostly at how absurdly violent the U.S. Police can be especially when they happen to get around black people. And it's so much "yellow journalism" that it is from the BBC - I read it first on The Guardian, but the two stories are not starkingly different anyway.
But if it can reassure you, I don't need to look that hard to find various articles showing how much of a shitshow the U.S. can be. I mostly happen upon those and I definitely don't post everything I find here, far from it.

There is no objective standard for being considered a racist, and to a degree, what racism or a racist act is. It's instead a branding applied by mass perception based on association, and the occasional offensive act.

Which has caused the label to lose most of its power.

So a quick factcheck then.Weekly check on CNN coverage (I started in February because the name "Covid-19" was given on February 11th by the WHO).
CNN on February 15th, they use "coronavirus" or "novel coronavirus" (the WHO name used before Covid). 21 occurrences of it, with 0 preceded by "Chinese" or "Wuhan".
https://edition.cnn.com/asia/live-news/ ... index.html
CNN on February 22nd: they use "coronavirus". 31 occurrences of it, with 0 preceded by "Chinese" or "Wuhan"
https://edition.cnn.com/asia/live-news/ ... index.html
CNN on February 29th: they use "coronavirus" or "novel coronavirus". 27 occurrences, with 0 preceded by "Chinese" or "Wuhan".
https://edition.cnn.com/asia/live-news/ ... index.html
CNN on March 7th: they use "coronavirus" (28 occurrences) or "Covid-19" (2). 0 times preceded by "Chinese" or "Wuhan".
https://edition.cnn.com/asia/live-news/ ... index.html
CNN on March 14th: they use "coronavirus (31 occurrences) or "Covid-19" (1). 0 times preceded by "Chinese" or "Wuhan".
https://edition.cnn.com/world/live-news ... index.html
The first time I found "Chinese Virus" was unsurprisingly on March 18th:
https://edition.cnn.com/2020/03/17/asia ... index.html
Which is when Trump himself used the wording in a speech - the article reacted to it.
The first time I found "Wuhan Virus" was on March 25th:
https://edition.cnn.com/2020/03/25/poli ... index.html
When the US tried to use this expression in a G7 statement (it was rejected).
So please, provide evidence of your statement that the media used "Wuhan virus" before Trump and only changed because he endorsed it.
I guess random wrong facts are better than no facts at all?

You posted a link with a ton of clips from late 2019-early 2019 before there even had an official designation for COVID-19 - and when only Wuhan was hit. After that, you get 40 seconds of clips from a news coverage media talking about the most important topic of the last three months, so it does not give the impression that it was something that was really widespread. On the contrary, it looks like it got less and less used over time, and way before they criticized Trump for doing it.
But I like that you criticize the biased liberal media, and then put something from the biased, conservative media as a rebuke or an example of "good journalism".
I mean, here is a CNN analysis of Fox News coronavirus coverage which also make it sound like it is a bit hypocritical.
And I am sorry for the disdain but I am pretty sure that from an ocean away US politics and the Trump government don't create much else, no matter how grand he looks from up close to some. Maybe only the liberal media in the US mentions it, but Trump has turned the US into a laughingstock for the last four years. The only reason people are not just laughing about it is that is sadly also affects other countries - and the entire planet, re:environment.
There is a bit of morbid fascination for me in Trump supporters. I can understand why people would fall for Le Pen or Salvini, or even Johnson though he is far less extreme, because they are charismatic and cunning ; excellent politicians in short. But Trump (and Bolsonaro) are just so repulsive, offensive and sometimes outright stupid that for anyone to trust them with running a country or to admire them on a personal level is mind-boggling.
I'm sure we will get some fascinating movies 10 or 15 years from now, similar to Haneke's White Ribbon, trying to find the roots that could lead a great civilization to do something so stupid.

While attaching the name of "Wuhan Virus" does give some location to it and people use said location as a political tool, be it through racist or other means, I do feel that China still has A LOT to answer for.
The virus started there and they let it spread.
If the virus started there through the wet food markets they have a lot to answer for there.
If the virus spread from an unintentional leak from the local virology research centre they have a lot to answer for there.
If they knew about the virus from whistleblowers and still did nothing they have a lot to answer for there.
No matter which way I slice it China is somehow responsible for this viral outbreak, the second one in nearly 20 years. It is very clear that something is going wrong in China the rest of the world must become aware of and must be actively against.
China IS a problem. If not in the traditional sense, but in a sense of sheer incompetence at worst.

Re: Politics/Slapfights - Ancient history to modern day!
Question for you non-Americans.
If you had children and raised them in an extremely conservative manner, would they be taken from you for speaking anti-progressive rhetoric in school? "Women belong in the home, having <your nationality> kids is good, gays are immoral, Islam is dumb, blah blah blah." High thought crimes.
It occurred to me that while there are institutional efforts underway to eradicate home school and non-state primary schools, they are in their infancy, and while our CPS is retarded sometimes, I haven't yet heard of a child abduction over "regressive beliefs." But we have a strong tradition of free speech, despite current efforts.
Though I imagine if you went to the extremes, and had American children saying really offensive things, the legal system would conjure a way to take them away, because no one who isn't filthy rich can fight the courts to a fair conclusion.

Re: Politics/Slapfights - Ancient history to modern day!
The only reasons that can lead a child to be taken from you that I know of are:
- there is proof/there are multiple testimonies you are hitting, hurting or abusing them on a regular basis
- there is proof you cannot have them live with basic human decency - food, hygiene, clothes
- you're forced to go to jail and have no close parent that can take care of them
Aside from that, you can raise Baby Westboro and no one will care. You will have to justify home-schooling, and you will be monitored to a degree if you do so, but unless you are part or an organization that is legally identified as a dangerous sect (and it is not a easy thing to demonstrate) they won't get taken from you.
I actually recently read a story about an entire extended family falling under the influence of a guru, except for a couple individuals. They were not much of a secret, as one of the few family members that did not fall under his spell was a journalist who got estranged from his wife and (adult) children, but since none of the recluses (which did include at least one young kid) openly spoke about the abuse, the State was powerless to intervene, and it went on for roughly 10 years. It only stopped when the guru was convicted for tax evasion.
Now I think that if you kid starts publicly spouting legally reprehensible hate speech, you might be held responsible, but as long as it does not have one of the three above mentioned consequences for you, you will keep it.

Re: Politics/Slapfights - Ancient history to modern day!
It seems like there is something of a situation in the UK regarding PM advisor Dominic Cummings' lockdown breach. Everyone from left to right seemed to be in agreement that he needed to go after being caught traveling to see his parents during lockdown despite displaying symptoms, and that was the expected message from Johnson's afternoon press conference, but instead he backed him up and said that Cumminds displayed "great integrity".
Since I read about it on The Guardian, which is rather clearly hostile to the PM, I thought they clearly exaggerated the reaction and were blowing up the fact that a couple of Tories were displeased, but the headlines are similar in papers that are used to way more leniency towards Johnson and his party. There really seems to be a bit of an outrage going on.
I assume it makes sense, as Tories are on average older than Labour voters from what I know, and as such are more likely to have ended up in the "grandparents denied family meetings" during lockdown.

What's even worse is the Scottish Health Minister (I think that was the person/title anyway) did the same thing and there was a huge outcry for her to resign.
Now Borris is okay with it so long as his bum-chum Cummings is doing it.
So, an edge of hypocrisy there.
But, hey, politicians. If hypocrisy wasn't present they'd not be in politics.

Interesting. Would've thought the state would have far less compunctions with taking a kid, given in some parts of Europe, they actively prosecute you for saying shit online. A small legal hop from punitive measures for expressing hate speech on the individual to their family.
Though I was reminded the US spooks have murdered people who try to go off and have their own kooky communes and raise kids indoctrinated in the cult, so, you know. Not exactly a bastion of freedom either.
Re: Politics/Slapfights - Ancient history to modern day!
I can only talk for France, but I doubt many Europeans countries are keen on splitting families for moral reasons.
Raising your children with a certain set of values is as far as I know never considered abuse no matter what those values are. Only direct abuse can lead to separating children from their parents.
As for cults, there is a difference between religions and those, legally, but it is murkier when you try to look at it. There are salafi muslims, ultra-orthodox jews and fundamentalist christians in the country, and none are ever threatened with being denied the right to raise their kids. But parents that are part of cults can end up on the wrong end of the law depending on the cult's actions - thing is, as long as no one complains about that cult, it is impossible to do anything, and since they tend to be reclusive the only way for that to happen is usually with someone escaping the grip of the cult.
The most common debates we see, as far as I know, is with cults and religions who frown upon certain kinds of medical treatment, like Jehovah's witnesses and blood transfusions. I think complaints can be filed against parents who refuse/fight against a potentially life-saving treatment for their child, and that might lead to the kid being separated from the family.

Now for the prosecution for online hate speech, while I hear a lot about accounts being closed and the like, it is very rare to hear about following prosecutions. Most laws are not designed for internet anyway. From what I gathered, you cannot libel or directly insult someone, but as far as hate speech is concerned, hate alone is not legally reprehensible - inciting people to hate based on racial causes is. So you can say "I hate Xs", but you cannot say "We should kill all Xs", or "Xs should not be allowed to live here", as it can be seen as inciting others to cause discrimination or harm towards others. You can get up to 1 year in jail and 45k€ fees for that, and you might be forced to go through citizenship classes or community rehabilitation programmes.
Recently there has been a ruckus about a new law about "fighting hateful online content", whose goal is to force platforms to delete hateful content 24 to 48 hours after it has been signalled. Main reasons of the flamewar were
1) that it is seen as impossible to properly execute, since it can take a while to determine whether some content is hateful or not, and is probably going to infringe on everyone's freedom of speech since robots are likely to have an extra careful approach to avoid any legal prosecution for the company, so basically they are going to go for "while in any kind of doubt, delete"
2) because the deputy who crafted the law is right now being prosecuted by her own assistants for various kinds of abuse she pulled on them, including racist and homophobic slurs. I wish I was kidding, but I am not.
In any event, it does not make people more likely to be prosecuted for what they post online, it just makes it more likely for them to be censored.

I want so hard to find common ground with my fellows of opposing political views about this murderer cop, and yet, they push me away.
Though the area they're burning down businesses in is going to be blighted for a good long while thanks to all this, which is tragic. Torched low income housing too. At least they made an effort for the police station. But the cop is in custody for third degree murder, which might even be flimsy if the autopsy CNN reported is legit. What a silly, stupid mess.

That's the thing. Third Degree murder here carries a max of 25 years in prison, and he has a history of violence against people of color. There's video evidence of him killing the guy. That might get a pass other places, not so much here. Prosecuting for 1st Degree murder requires premeditation, which isn't provable in this case.
The burning and looting? Yeah, no good. However there's videos of plainclothes cops and "boogaloo boys" initiating the burning and looting. And what happens when a protest gets angry? They follow suit. None of this was unprovoked. The cops were doing drive-by macing and shooting peaceful protesters with less than lethals without provocation.
That means the cops shot first. MPD has a long history of abusing the people under their watch, I myself among them. My girlfriend at the time as well was harassed. This has been years coming, and all across the US we're seeing the people protest for their own cities and states' justice reforms. To think it started in Minnesota is kinda funny in a sad way. We became a state to fight against the South to free slaves, now we're the flashpoint for another Civil Rights movement.
Hopefully this will go somewhere. If not it'll happen again and again until we're nothing. Doesn't help that we have a douchefucker in the White House who praises white supremacists. Compare the police response when the white folk stormed the governors mansions compared to this before the riots, and you can see why Minneapolis is burning now.
And before you say it, yeah, I tried to run supplies in. I got road blocked. 35W, 494, all the side roads are blocked off by police and NG.

Rioting is never ok. Certainly not in a first world country not in the middle of World War 2.

Said autopsy says "“The defendant had his knee on Mr. Floyd’s neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds in total. Two minutes and 53 seconds of this was after Mr. Floyd was non-responsive.”
If Mr Floyd indeed had a heart condition, then even if the cause of death is not asphyxiation or strangulation, I think the cunt's knee might have had a passing influence on his demise, and since the eggshell rule is a thing, the cop can't be exonerated because his victim happened to not be built to withstand the trauma he inflicted on him.

Riots I don't usually condone, but I at least understand why they happen in these cases and it's usually because the people that are trying to get their point across are being ignored. So they're getting angrier and angrier until it all explodes out.

So now Trump wants to shut down Twitter and "other" social media platforms for daring to fact-check him.
If he actually manages to cripple that cesspool of a website it might actually be one of the very few things he did that will be for the betterment of the human race. Even tho it's completely unintentional and done out of spite.
I'm not holding my breath, but it'd be hilarious.

Re: Politics/Slapfights - Ancient history to modern day!
The odds of Trump actually affecting how Twitter works are nearly zero, because I doubt he really wants anything to change. His latest crusade only wants for Twitter to stop with the fact-checking, but he absolutely does not want to close it - how would he communicate without the blue bird?
The main reason the media is focused 24/7 on him is because of his Twitter feed. If it closes or becomes less visible because of a law he passes, then the focus will shift from him to...well, something else, and it will give more exposure to other news. In an election year, that does not sound very shrewd, especially when you have built your political strategy entirely on being at the center of absolutely every debate (for better or worse).

I find it hilarious that he got fact checked now, rather than years ago. Guy's been lying on everything about everything.
Also, trying to tell a private business how to conduct it's business? Sounds pretty dictatorial. Especially when it's something that only he has umbrage with.

Not quite a cop, but he's white, so close enough. Tried to defend his store with a sword, people are saying. A gun might've saved his life/brain damage.
Got people rioting in fucking Fargo now. Can't possibly be solely out of state agitators at this point. Probably a mix of lockdown madness and avarice.
On the plus side, I'm glad corona is dead and gone. That went on way too long.
