I adore how Wizards of the Coast made a game where most of it's player base opens a book full of rules, examines it in detail, and then immediately finds ways to exploit it, and then is amazed when a bunch of rules got leaked and the players discover they're being exploited.

I'd boycott them, but I haven't given Wizards of the Coast a dime since Star Wars SAGA Edition, so it's functionally impossible for me to give them even less money.

Yeah, same here, SW Saga was basically the end of my relationship with WotC. I think I bought one Forgotten Realms lore book after that, but only because I liked the setting so much, before they ruined it with 4E.

I live again! Was nice to get some January work, and spend time with my dad. Drank a ton of vodka, ate well. Still got a lingering cough, but the rest of corona seems to be gone. That and my sense of taste is still about 33% functional, actually.

Excellent! I got a nice raise end of last year, but with so little work out there, didn't add up to much. Did the math, if we ever had a solid, full year, I'd be sitting extremely well and able to make some upward moves.

You got to make to make it work for 1.500 companies. Then you have to make sure that it is legally sound and absolutely irrevocable. There are feedback loops between you and your IP lawyer and there can be delays on both sides (I know what I'm talking about here, I work for a patent lawyer). When you present your draft, expect a crapton of feedback from most of the 1.500 companies as well as the community at large. So you are extra careful that the language you present is 110% well thought out. Also, the question is what exactly gets licensed? The OGL 1.0a licensed basically an entire gaming system with very specific rules and language for spells, monsters, magic, classes, etc. to be used as a basis for a vast array of derivative games. The ORC will have to do the same but actively avoid just copying the OGL 1.0a's content.

So, yeah, I think "a couple of days" is vastly underestimating it.

For some reason, this made me think of ROM sites, in the old days, where you had to click a disclaimer that what you're downloading is only a legal backup of something you already own. I'm sure it never, ever stopped a lawsuit from taking down a site. I stand corrected, then!

No, not really. I don't trust the stock market at this time, given that we are in a continous world crisis since 2020. Also, I put enough aside to have a good amount of padding if something happens, but I want to maintain that liquidity for the time as well. My mom is 79 years old and I am the designated person who will have to take care of all the paperwork when she dies one day, since I'm the only one in the family (aside her, of course) who speaks fluent Spanish and can get things done with the official people in Paraguay.

Friends of all political leanings generally agree with me that financial markets and such are arcane gambling. Not to say we should gather the torches and hoist the gallows, but something sits wrong about generating massive fortunes from theoretical future production, and then manipulating that to generate even more fortunes.

So, yeah, insomuch as I don't trust crypto (think my meager investment is down 66.7% from where it started, after peaking at 120% or so), I don't trust stocks. I'm not smart enough to understand it all, and not enough of a gambler to let someone else handle it for me.

Glad you're taking care of your mom's estate at least. Think my mother has her twin sister as her executor, though she'll almost certainly die first, and then it presumably falls to me. Going to have to liquidate everything, I fear, to cover debts.

I have no clue what's normal and what's presented as more normal than it is. There's very little I've wanted from the world, and life, and I managed to have even less. But I hope people are more sane than pop culture makes them appear.
