I live again! Slightly tanner, marginally wealthier, and covered in cuts from the particularly jagged kind of shrubbery the middle class decorates their homes with! Also cracked my right thumbnail finishing up work today. Everything that applies pressure to it hurts.
But I'm home, at least until next Monday. If work was more consistent, and I had someone under me to pass off the grunt work to, I'd be quite content to be a laborer, really. Got to spend the day outdoors in lovely weather, in lovely communities, doing work with my hands that actually looks good.

Ah. I know that feeling very well. If I hadn't finally gotten a new phone, so I could play Pokemanz, I'd probably still be even more of a hermit than I am. Glad you got out!

Personal trainer Deano trying to encourage you all to be healthy.
So I've been steadily losing weight for the last 6 years, around 1 stone a year. 18 to 12 stone, which I've been happy with. However the way I was losing weight was a better diet, calorie deficit & cardio. Which is very effective once you get into it, but one thing that happens is you don't just lose fat, you lose muscle as well, and for my body type...well I've sort of ended up looking like an abnormal titan from AoT:

So I finally gathered to courage to go to the gym with a friend who was in a similar position and has been going for a year, now I've been going for a few months it really is amazing, it's far more enjoyable than just doing cardio. Honestly this point is massive for someone like me who got pretty sick of just running, so if you been considering going for whatever reason, you definitely should, bonus if you hire a Personal Trainer to sort out a plan for you!

I feel a tad hypocritical echoing this after I ate a big bag of Burger King today, and am currently drinking fine Beefeater gin, but still!
Congratulations on the results tho! Mazder too has lost a massive amount, despite some plateaus, and it's heartening to see. When I was on the cruise with my family, put on about 7 pounds or so, but I _looked_ so much worse because I was perpetually bloated. Burned it back off since then, but the value of how you look cannot be underestimated. Even a hint of what you could be is quite motivating.
Could never get into cardio, my joints will never cooperate, heh. Well done, and keep it up!

Hey great for you and also great on the humor. I kind of look abnormal myself.
I've lost weight the same way. Through a more proper diet and cardio (walking a lot instead of the running) and I can say that stringy arms and still a gut to look at isn't that appealing. In the past I've tried to gain muscle, but I never kept it up even though I kept the weight off. Recently though I've pushed myself to hit the gym 5 days a week. Lost 8 pounds since February. Finished my fourth straight week yesterday and honestly, I'm looking forward to how I'm going to change things up starting Monday. Having a nicer chest and arms to look forward to in the future is one of my goals.
Keep it up and let us know your progress.

Yeah, I had a small family vacation in February where I gained about 8 pounds. Walked a lot and ate few meals, but those meals where big. Plus snacks!
Thinking about it, I was probably just wrapping up the holiday season when I weighed myself. These things happen.

Bloating is a yuge factor too. Wore one of my tighter shirts today, same as what I brought on vacation. Doesn't seem possible that the amount of food I ate then was enough to distend my midsection that much, but it certainly did! So while the amount of actual fat is hard to tell on my tall frame, keeping my stomach full certainly shows immediately.

Yeah. I wear small size because my chest and arms and waist fit perfectly on most shirts. It's just those two buttons below my rib cage. And I can't sit down, no way are some of these shirts sit down shirts. So to get the fit right I have to go with bigger chest and arms which make my fashion taste look like it's from the late 90's.

Ahh...last year managed to reunite with the first friend I ever made in life. Met when we were about 3 or 4. He was living not far from me now, but I'd never been able to find his info until I got very lucky on reconnecting with another friend who had his number. Stopped by today out of the blue, and we hung out for a few hours. Looks like he's going to be moving to the west coast next month, new start on life and all that. There's a dramatic irony to my life's script sometimes.
I'm hopeless with fashion, in that I can't make myself care and have disliked every fashion style since pipe jeans were briefly popular. I'm a medium in build but a regular medium shirt would leave my belly button and shoulders exposed, while a large hangs off my midsection. I've found medium-tall shirts, like the one I mentioned, that are pleasantly tight on the upper arms and chest, but loose enough on the stomach to hide the faint lovehandles. Best of all worlds, really. Then pants are a crapshoot, can never get consistent sizing. 34x36, 36x36, 36x38, all and none of them fit correctly.

Gotta have your cheat days otherwise what's the point in working hard the other days.

Yeah I've noticed Maz's post and it's really good to see. Again gotta have your cheat days put making sure it doesn't turn into cheat months is the important park. Agreed on the looks, I'm happy when I see pictures of me in the past and see how much I've changed, now if I can tone my body I'll be in a place I never thought possible for me.

5 days a week is seriously impressive and so is that weight loss, especially when you'll be burning that fat and turning it into muscle.
Yes I will, and you too buddy.

On that note, how you doing lately, Maz?!
I have some photos on my wall of when I was in high school, my 18th birthday. I look remarkably similar, but for more hair on the face and some laugh lines when I smile. Creates a different sort of perception to maintain, or mildly improve, over youth. Though it's fitting in a symbolic sense. If you're under 60 years old, toning should be relatively easy! Heh. Just a matter of consistency, pushing numbers, or doing wacky optimized routines or diets is irrelevant compared to that.
