Hope you all spent a good Father's Day with your dads, if you can/care to. Ended up going to my dad's house, watching a show about deep sea tuna fishing for a bit, then we went to a country club his girlfriend's brother is a member of. Had a brunch buffet, 7 people total at the table, was nice. Steak, swordfish, a burger, fries, hashbrowns, penne vodka, sausage, etc. Was all overcooked, but tasted alright, heh. Blueberry pie for dessert tho, and a cup of coffee to counteract all the beers and Long Island iced teas. Then back to the house to have a beer with my dad, while he smoked the Cuban cigar I got him for his birthday. Love that guy, hope he's around a good, long time.

I spent last weekend with my parents. It was my mom's 1 year recovery from her stroke, so we also had country club cuisine. Texted my dad, he's happy watching baseball all day.

Well I reached 163lb the other day from 175lb in Feb, which was my original weight goal when I lost weight 9 years ago. I don't know what to call it, but this now is where the real work begins. I've never been here before, because I wasn't working out AND dieting, but the later. With the two months I put behind me I know the next two will be brutal, but I hope to see some real changes because I'm hungry for it and I put in some solid motivation. So far my belt is hanging loose, I notice a hard line on either side of my abdomen going downwards. I can feel the separation of the two top abdominal muscles when I lay down. My waist (I don't know what to call it or where it is, but the thickest part of my gut when I really push it out) went from 41.5 inches in Feb to 38 inches the other day. Other than that, I don't feel any different in my clothes. Everything else fits like normal.

My dad's birthday and Father's Day lined up on the same day; we had a big family get-together. Saw some family members I haven't seen in awhile. Party games, some early fireworks, summer stuff. Grilled up some burgers, hot dogs, and sausages for dinner, complimented with lots of mac-and-cheese and potato salad. Various forms of cake and pie for dessert. Ate too much, my stomach wasn't happy at me, but I told it to shut up because it was worth it.

Finished Sekiro, 100%, all achivements. A lot I could say, the story in particular struck me much stronger this time around. The carp symbolism, and the literal carps, was amazing, to give just one example.

Ended up grinding that single ninja just after the castle antechamber bonfire, hundreds of times, to get the XP to buy all the skills. But taking down NG+4 Isshin, compared to how badly I got thrashed by the first general on my first playthrough, makes for quite a journey. Game really does teach you to git gud with the battle timing. And the items I previously called useless, candy and most prosethics, found their uses on subsequent runs. The Headless item for stealth was endlessly useful, especially once you hit scaling high enough to always buy emblems.

Scaling wasn't bad. Since you get more attack power for every boss kill, and can spend 5 XP bars for another boost (had enough to do it once, at the very end), but maxing out your HP/posture on the _first_ playthrough does drastically alter your margin of error on subsequent runs.

Not quite sure what the Return ending was implying was happening. Sorta came out of left field, so I assume there's a Buddhist/Shinto obvious meaning here. Shura was the last one I did, though I had to run through NG+5 because I _thought_ the missing 2 beads was from the last 2 Shura bosses, and it was neat. Not quite the obvious outcome, but I liked how Owl is invariably proud of Sekiro in every encounter, in some way or another.

Game goes incredibly fast once you know where stuff is. From start to Shura, on NG+5, think it took me around an hour, not being a speedrunner or knowing the cheesiest ways to kill bosses. I did see one guy who's able to insta-kill the first _two_ health bars off the Corrupted Monk tho. First time through, could spend 50 hours exploring and dying.

Great game. Incredibly infuriating to start.

I am just soooo fucking done with inventory management, upgrading and resource gathering in my games. I don't mind difficulty levels and shit but I am beginning to HATE the fucking basic, blue, purple, gold weapon levels. And I am sorry but even if stuff "must" be crafted to be an RPG, can we all just agree that the amounts of materials needed are fucking stupid, especially for shit like "+8% chance to set the enemy on fire, or +5% chance to crit"?
I think games need to be aware that it's okay to have a world where buying upgrades from shops is 100% fine. And if they want to have the crafting/tinkering have them be bought too with only a FEW rare items from bosses/high level gap rewards, or as super rare/sidequest rewards. Make that shit special.

Yeah, I look weird at my healthy weight, because the proportions don't look as nice elongated. I'd need to put on about 50+ pounds of muscle, or 100+ of fat, to really "fill out," and neither of those are happening.

I've had little luck trying to buy pants in stores, because 34/36x36 is fairly uncommon. Way more 50+x36 at the big and tall stores, if you catch my drift. Still, getting down to a proper fighting weight is always a good thing!

Bought an arcade stick years ago, back when ME2 was current, and gave a shot at UMVC3 and SF4, to little effect. Seems like you need to learn an entire paradigm both mentally and physically before you can do much of anything.

Yeah, Everspace 2 is what I'm starting with, hopefully this weekend. Still working on finishing Midnight Suns.

The total in the boxes are two joysticks, two bases for the joysticks, desk mounts for both with a separate specialized plate for each of the bases, one Z-axis adapter for the left hand and two dust covers. All in all, a lot, but well packaged and basically the best quality you can buy on Earth at this time.

It's hard to describe in words, but imagine the worst possible bone and fat distribution an otherwise healthy man could have. Lean, lightly defined upper half, with very narrow ribs, and then the only notable fat on my body somehow congregated on the back love handles and butt. Like a reverse skinny-fat guy. Looked freakish, surprised no one's ever said anything.

Alright, I finally finished Midnight Suns. All in all, 80 hours, which it definitely felt like for the second half.

The story is mediocre and the gameplay, sadly, turned out to be so as well. Of the about 16 characters you interact with (and need to do a lot of friendship stuff), exactly 5 of them were interesting to at least more or less interesting, i.e. (from best to tolerable) Illyana Rasputin, Nico Minoru, Tony Stark, Logan and Blade. The others were boring to actually unlikeable.

Combat got pretty damn repetitive fast and a chore after the middle, even with some new enemy types later in the campaign. Once you got your best cards and modded them to your liking, it was all too easy to win the combat. I had to repeat the final fight due to a big tactical mistake there and some really bad RNG to boot, but I won easily all other fights in the entire campaign (normal difficulty).

I really can't recommend the game to others. Get a better story and much better gameplay in either XCOM 2 or WH40: Chaos Gate 2.

Now I'll have a few hours in the evening today to rest and tomorrow I'll be assembling the joysticks and will start with Everspace 2. Very much looking forward to that.

There's probably a funny line in there about being blind to your own back, but yeah, it is kinda humorous too. Definitely need to work on the lower back. Not sure what to do there other than deadlifts, but that's a problem, since those kill my hamstrings and upper back for a few days, and those are my work muscles. Got 4 workouts in the last week, since I agreed with you guys' opinion that my job doesn't count, so I need to catch up on the 2 months I skipped already this year.

I started playing Nioh, since I'm still in that Sengoku mood after finishing Sekiro, and I always intended to get around to it. It's clearly a Souls knockoff, but also leans heavier into the RPG elements, way more systems and stats, stats, stats to fiddle with. Gear is constantly upgraded, reforged, dismantled, more grindy that way. Combat is significantly more involved, you have 3 stances, of dubious value at least as far in as I am, buncha weapon types with their own skill trees, magic, ninja stuff.

Where it diverges is in making combat exponentially more lethal than Souls. More like Sekiro or Bloodborne in that regard, but less fluid movement. I don't know how far in I am, I assume at least a third, and a mission came up to just fight a boss by itself. Was the game's first boss, but buffed to the point that any hit was a one-shot, and it was permanently in phase 2. Meaning faster and more aggressive. The design overall seems to lean more on "you should die a lot," because the cost of death is cheap and you nominally have many tools to help. In practice, it's just annoying. The mission is effectively to play a perfect boss fight, which means finding the tactic which minimizes the boss acting inconsistently. The solution I eventually discovered was that if you do the King Leoric tactic, hump the back of the right leg, the boss has only a single script to respond, and that's a very fast backwards swipe that just misses you if you follow the leg. So using poison, magic, the NPC helper, elemental weaknesses, long weapons, all actively unhelpful, just needed to leg hump to victory. Hit, hit, dodge. Which plays out in the missions, where basic bitch bandits, the same ones from the first level, now scaled to current level, can 2 shot me even with my fancy epic armor and stat boosts. They're fragile too, so I can win the combat by playing lame as well. Odachi or spear, swing just in range, use ki pulses (get back most of your spent stamina after your attack ends) to combo into stunlocks, then kill with the grapples. But it all just screams that you _should_ be getting tougher, that my heavily armored Anjin-san shouldn't have to lame it out forever, at some point he should be a mad foreign berserker or something.
