Choosing not to vote is a perfectly valid decision. Especially if you live in a state that is solidly for one party but you would vote for the other.

The swing states are the only ones that really matter and even then the electoral college could simply decide to fuck over your vote. People feel they don't have a stake in the system because no one in that system really gives a fuck for the common man. Both sides are answering to their paymasters, not the people.

"Both" candidates? There's Gary Johnson and Jill Stein, and write-in votes. There's a friend of mine who writes-in "Ronald Reagan" every election. You could write in the guy from The Rent Is Too Damn High Party if you want.

However, with Trump, we kind of know many of his goals already. But I have to wonder, if people are really ready to see them potentially happening, even his supporters. How would people really react, if Trump and congress would manage to push through the laws of banning muslism from entering US or some other way making their life harder, or those tariff goals for China and Mexico goods or building the wall on Mexico border. These had been his open goals for sometime, but would you really accept it, if they happen. Especially if Trump had been elected with marginal majority.

We know Trump's true goals about as well as we know Erdogan's, if what you're saying is correct. Lets be clear, we have multiple layers of obfuscation and spin between whatever he earnestly wants to do and whatever we hear about. From his heart to his brain to his mouth, or his mouth to the campaign to us, or the media to us, we'll never know. We can make a reasonable inference from the aggregate though. He's a nationalist, populist, authoritarian. Basically everything he sticks to is under that frame.

For the record, the Muslim ban has been walked back to banning people from countries with terrorist roots, to "extreme vetting." Whatever he's actually going to do is a great question. Everything else is still his current policy though, the wall, tariffs.

Now, the consequences if he were to enact those ideas, nobody really knows. We can assume that illegals from the south will mostly be stopped, though never entirely. And there'll be some sort of non-amnesty plan to allow the non-violent ones in the country already to stay in some fashion, that's what he's been signaling for the last week anyway. Mexico will dislike us, Canada too probably, China, southeast Asia in general, possibly Japan, Europe, the Middle East. Russia might like us more though.

But here's the thing. I work in blue collar circles, so I get a good idea of what people on the ground, the true blue Trump men care about. All that stuff? Free trade, globalism, world economy, North American relationships, the biological impact of the wall, banning new immigrants from a faith, all of it. They don't give a shit. They do not care about any of those things, because those things do not help them in any immediately appreciable way. And in fact, they've come to the conclusion that some of those things actively make their lives worse, and they're not completely wrong.

That's why Trump's been able to get so far with so little detailed policy. He's something new, he's voicing grievances that no one else will, and if he turns into Mussolini, at least the trains will on time.

It's hard to explain clearly. It's like how three people can read the same article, and come away with three wildly opposing conclusions from it. But to the most ardent supporters I know, a worst case Trump reign is better than anything Hillary could do, and a best case Trump reign would be Pax Americana. I personally think if he wins he'll do a decent job, because media hysterics are poor indicators of future reality.

Some internet celebrity twat once complained that the IRS was "literally taking 50%" and that they were going to move to some place in Europe to avoid the taxes.

Even if he had done some really silly things from tax perspectives, like electing to be taxed as a C corp, paying himself in non-deductable dividends, ect ect, if he was at the level of income where he was paying 50% taxes, he'd still be making well over $100k a year after tax. He also claimed he had a CPA helping him, which is bullshit if he was paying as much as he claimed he was.

How do you think those states became swing states in the first place?

I think it's less "Hillary has used voter fraud to win states" and more "there have been questionable happenings during the primary vote." Like all those votes from the primarily Bernie-supporting area in New York state that apparently were never counted, or all those people who had their party affiliation switched without warning (happened to both Republicans and Democrats).

The big thing I've noticed with "Voter Fraud' is that it really isn't the type of fraud you might imagine on TV, where someone hacks the voter database, or dumps a truck of precompile ballots into the box. The current tactic seems to be making the voting process more difficult or complex, which has a side effect of harming the voting capacity of individuals in certain economic demographics. And this is all to reduce "voter fraud."

Which is funny, because the actual rate of fraudulent votes is something like 0.00005% of votes cast.
