I remember when Avril Lavigne was becoming a thing, and that skater boy song was getting popular. I have distinct memories of thinking, "I am too old to enjoy this kind of music anymore."
That was 2002.
That was 2002.

Luckily, my next upgrade will only be necessary when Cyberpunk 2077 comes out. So in two years, I guess.
For now I'm good with my GTX 970, 16 GB RAM and Intel Xenon 8-core. I got a 1 TB SSD for my birthday in July, so now my games are all on that harddisk. Live is good in terms of my PC.

You may have to explain this.
It appears to be the case to an older computer. I assume whats going on here is you turned a 2005 Gateway computer into a high end PC?

Oddly similar set-up to mine.
I am starting to save up for upgrades soon-ish.

Well, I'll give Blizzard credit. They've made normal mode Uldir feel like a proper raid, because pugging it has been an exercise in watching other people fuck up over and over, then rage quit. Just like Ulduar, back in the day when I was a raid tank.

Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
So, Metal Gear has aged like milk.
Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake actually seems like there is a solid (ha ha) game in there somewhere.
Metal Gear Solid is... Surprisingly Playable actually. I managed to get to and beat Ocelot, which I wasn't expecting at all.
Its also novel to have a 90's videogame action hero who's "badass" persona still feels, well, badass.
Edit: I just beat Psycho Mantis. I have to say, this game is consistently very impressive. It probably helps that I watched a playthrough before playing the game myself, but once you get used to the controls, the game has held up extremely well.
I only ever expected to play maybe a half an hour of MGS1 and then move onto 2. I may actually try to finish the first game now. This game is extremely impressive.

Well you haven't fought Sniper Wolf yet, the sniper controls have not aged well.

Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
Metal Gear has consistently been a series I regret not getting in on from the beginning. When it came out, I was 12 and still mostly interested in games like Spyro and Crash Bandicoot and after that I went through a meaty PC RPG kick. I didn't start playing console shooters and this kind of action game for another like 5-6 years and by then, old PS1 games had already become really hard to go back to.
There is this dividing line approximately halfway (roughly 1998) through the lifespan of the PS1, where games older than that are just unplayable and ones after that you can manage. A lot of the ones prior to that point rely on the D-pad instead of analog sticks and have 3-d environments but completely static cameras for starters that is just painful to deal with. I straight up cannot play Twisted Metal 1 & 2 as one example.
I may go back and try it. It seems to be situated on the playable half of that divide.

Yeah I'm not looking forward to that. Beating her in the snowfield doesn't seem like a problem, but beating her in her initial fight looks like the thing that will make me just move on to MGS2.

Push through on the Sniper Wolf encounter. You won't regret it.

as long you have the what's called medical item (can't remember the name), that stop Snakes hands from shaking it shouldn't be to hard.
the second time you can just cheat if you have enough of those nikita control missiles, you used to blow up the power control unit to reach Hal.

Diazapam. Smoking calms the nerves, but not as well as Diazapam.

Diazapam. Yeah I know how to do it. None of the bossfights thus far have been that bad. The most annoying was Psycho Mantis because of his final phase. And because if you lost you had to go through the entire looooooooong intro again. Which is AWESOME the first time. Less awesome the second or third.
And yeah i know the trick. Its great.

Also remember to save after you beat her, because the whole toture stuff happens right after that and if you die during that, there is no continue, Ocelot even tells you in game.

Yeah, Metal Gear was one of those franchises I was aware of but just didn't have a big interest in back then. I regret not giving it more of my attention looking back. But luckily, I've been able to catch up.
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes remake for the Gamecube was my first MG game.

Well, damn. Wildstar is shutting down (as is their developer studio). I guess I can't even say "didn't see that coming", because you were getting these reports every once in a while from a Youtuber that the game wasn't doing so hot anymore, even for a FTP MMO.

When I was a wee lad, all I had to base my strategies on was gaming magazines, not this fancy shmancy internet you kids have these days.
