Managed to see a let's player going through some of the chapters of MK11's story mode, before WB took down his playthrought. I wouldn't do it... I'd much prefer just playing the game... but since my current laptop can't handle it, I am forced to watch other people's games, for the time being.

For those who are curious about the plot and stuff...

The game opens right after the final battle of MKX, and we get the scene were Raiden becomes DarkRaiden and decapitates Shinnoq, before brining his still living cabeza to Kitana and Liu Kang...

... turns out it wasn't exactly a good idea. The two former heroes place what's left of Shinnoq in a shrine and use him to power an whole army of demons and undeads they plan to invade Earthrealm with. Raiden finds out a couple years later, while they're almost ready to strike and with the help of the Special Forces strikes a preventive attack to stop them. This is chapter one, and you play as Cassie Cage through it. By the end of it, Sonya Blade sacrifices herself to blow up the fortress that contains Shinnoq's head, and Kronika shows up to offer Liu Kang and Kitana an alliance.

Kronika is mad at Raiden for changing history... guess she prefered the timeline where everyone died during the Armaggeddon... and plans to hard reset the space-time continuum and create a new timeline where Raiden never existed, so that he can't fuck things up again. The ritual to reboot a whole universe tho is long and hard, so she summons pretty much everyone who has a grudge with the God of Thunder or isn't pleased with the new future he created in MK9 and X, to protect her and find her what she requires to perform said ritual. This includes Shao Khan (duh), the undead versions of Liu Kang and Kitana, the Cyber-Ling Quei and klassic Scorpion. As a side effect of her timestorms tho, a lot of the good guys also are brought into the future.

All the male kombatants from the past sport look very heavily inspired by their MK Trilogy original selves, while all the girls have been given more modest clothes, reverse boobjobs and no giggle physics. So sadly that's indeed a thing that happened. It's even more jarring, because the kombatants from the past are actually meant to NOT be their MK Trilogy selves, but their MK9 ones. Raiden specifically mentions having visions of a terrible future he's trying to prevent from happening, and when the time travel shenanigas happen a whole bunch of people appear in the Outworld's Arena, because that's where they were during MK9. Basically everyone gets teleported into the present right before Shao Khan kills Kung-Lao and then gets defeated by Liu Kang the first time.

As for single characters bits...

The Cage are doing quite well at the beginning of the story. Sonya has been trying to be a more present mom for Cassie and got back togheter with Jhonny. Her death, and the appearance of her past self just a few hours later, messes them up both pretty badly.

Kotal Khan has kept trying to run Outworld in a more civilized manner, and even tried to ally with Earthrealm after the Shinnoq situation got sorted out. Tho by that point Raiden had went already full edgelord and refused his proposal. Also he had a secreat affair with Jade, back when he was just a general of Shao Khan's army and she wasn't a zombie.

Klassik Skorpion has no clue of what really went on with Quan-Chi and the Ling-Quei. So he's siding with Kronika because "muh dead family!!!"

Shao Khan still has all his cheap attacks but seems alot less OP than in MK9. He almost kills Kothal Khan before klassic Raiden and the others stop him, and then almost kills D'Vorah once she brags about having killed Mileena.

I signed up to be an Instacart Shopper, meaning I'll be the Uber for your groceries. I'm able to choose my own hours, which means I can work really early in the morning or late at night. I'm kind of nervous, which I always am at doing something new. Does anyone have any experience or know anyone who is doing something similar?

Okay, I'm gonna try to be civil.

First, to do your (or rather, my old) job well, you need to know two things like the back of your hand: the layout of the store you primarily shop at, and the layout of the area you drive through. For the city, keep in mind all the main drags, how far apart the lights are on some stretches, and if possible, where the Interstate or equivalents are. Instacart is all about that same-day shopping and getting you rotisserie chickens delivered right to your house (grumble, grumble), so to get there while the thing is still hot, you gotta move. For the store, you need to memorize where everything should be. Of particular interest are items that could be in two different departments. For example, gluten-free bread in my store is either in the very end of the cereal aisle in the gluten-free section, or it's in the frozen section just opposite the refrigerated bagels, because there's one brand that's gluten free and has to be frozen. Another good example is party-ready trays of mashed potatoes. The Deli section often has them because one brand is the same brand they use for the potatoes they put in the hot case, but they're also near the lunch meat and hot dogs in the general category of picnic foods. Knowing this stuff is important for making substitutions, and customers would rather you text them about substitutions than just saying "Ooops! We don't have that specific brand! Moving on!"

Second: You will take the stairs and you will love it. A lot of people order groceries online not just for the convenience of getting people to do their shopping for them, but because they live in the third, fourth, fifth floor of some place that doesn't have an elevator. Just think of it as a workout.

Third: Wear your shirt. If you go to a store often, you're gonna meet the people in the Deli or Produce section often. Wear that shirt. It helps them remember that you're on a job too, and not some random customer. It's a bit more relatable like that.

Fourth: Be nice. If your customers are anything like my old customers, you're gonna see them often, and you're gonna form some kind of weirdly personal relationship with them where if you're off for a week, you might have a hard time remembering their names, but you know exactly what their cat's favorite food is. Be sure to smile and remember that their repeat business is literally how you get paid.

Johnny and Cassie were really broken by Sonya's death. They did a good job really selling the emotional weight of that. The Cage/Blade family has truly become the heart of this entire series.

Shao Kahn was pissed when D'Vorah bragged about killing Mileena. Like, super über pissed. The kind of pissed that implied he really did have some legit concern for her, not just as a tool or pawn in his schemes of conquest, but as a father for his daughter. Aww, under all the bloodlust and warmongering and megalomania, daddy Shao Kahn did care for Mileena.

I'm enjoying how they're portraying Kotal here in 11, compared to X. Like, he seems more regal, more confidant, more poised, more honorable. Last game he kinda felt like a wannabe in my eyes, never really living up to his reputation, but here he's really owning it.

I never bothered asking, as Boon likes to troll, and probably wouldnt answer anyway. But I have wondered if Shao Khan had any attachments what-so-ever other than power. Even Stalin, a man known for being extremely cold and heartless, deeply loved his daughter. I like that they added a touch of character to Khan.

Blood Elf leader is joining up with Saurfang and Thrall to grow the rebellion and rescue Baine from prison, work together with Jaina because of course, blah blah, fuck this. However there still exists a Horde loyalist path, where you arrange some sort of ambush during the prison break by alerting Sylvanas, for all the good that does. And then the Azshara raid reveals we were fools all along, helping N'zoth get free.

Okay, found the rest of MK11' story mode. Overally I did quite like it. SIgnificantly more than MKX's, but it makes MKX's plot also be alot more significant in retrospect.

The big twist is that Kronika is the mother of both Shinnoq and Cetrion, and her ultimate goal is to create a perfectly balance reality where they are the gods of good and evil. Which would be good for the Elder Gods and the others immortal, but would basically mean all mortals in all realms being stuck in never ending conflict. And whenever the universe becomes too imbalanced for her tastes, she resets time, and tries again. One of her favorite tricks is manipulating events so that Raiden and Liu Kang, who togheter might have a chance to break the cycle, become mortal enemies. The events of MK 9 and X have happened countless times, in many variations;

The game ends with Raiden doing the opposite of Kronika's usual move, and actually merging with Liu Kang, making him the new protector god of Earthrealm. Even that however is too little too late, and Kronika erases and reboots the universe one last time before God Liu Kang can defeate her. The game ends with Liu Kang and Raiden, now a mortal, standing at the beginning of time, ready to use Kronika's sands of time to create a new, hopefully better, world;

Before all of reality is hard reset tho...

Kotal Khan gets captured, after Jade stops him from exterminating the Tarkatan again. Turns out that while he's a more honorable warrior and leader than Shao, he still has some major bias against the most inhuman Outworld races and had the Tarkatans killed, and the Shokan driven away;

Kitana then convinces both Sheva and Baraka, and their people, to rise against Shao Khan and try to save Kotal before is executed. THey manage to save his life, but SHao Khan breaks his spine leaving him crippled. Kitana then gets to kill her adoptive father, and is proclaimed the new Khan of Outworld, both because she killed Shao and because Kotal recognizes that she has a better chance to unite Outworld than he ever could;

D'Vorah adds another notch to her belt: this time she manages to kill Grandmaster Scorpion, tho not by defeating him in battle, but by poisoning him. He dies in the arms of his past self, who then switches sides and joins Raiden's army in the final battle;

Future Jax have gone completely depressed after the loss of his wife, and joins Kronika's army in the hope to give his family a better chance at life in the new timeline. He gets his ass kicked both by his daughter and his past self, and eventually realizes he picked the wrong side. Jaqui has a cooler fight style than in X, but she's still a very plain GI Joe character-wise;

Sonya and Jhonny get captured by Kano (both of them) and are significantly injured, meaning they don't take part in the final battle, tho Cassie does. Sonya at least gets the satisfaction of killing both versions of Kano, by shooting Klassic Kano in the face and then watching as Future Kano dissolves;

Frost betrays Sub-Zero and her clan and becomes the new leader of the cyber-Lin Kuei after Sektor is blown up. She isn't turned fully into a cyborg, but she wears a Warframe-y looking armor that lets her remote control the cyborgs.
