I've been playing Final Fantasy VII Classic for the past few days, and this is my first time ever going through it. A character I really liked has just died, and now there is a void in my party and my heart.

Its all funny, but i find the fact that Mileena beat both Scarlett and Nitara in the blood drinking contest to be particularly amusing.

For years, I heard about that moment, and how it affected players. Ultimately convinced me to buy the game and play it myself, I believe well into the PS2/Xbox era no less. Wasn't big on RPGs, you see.
Also, Lulu = Rikku > Yuna. I'm slightly tempted to play the FFX remaster on Steam, but I'm fairly sure I cannot handle Tidus' behavior as a grown man.
Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
The issue is mostly that when you know the truth about Yuna's pilgrimage, a second playthrough makes a ton of situations in which Tidus' involved a bit cringey, even though it isn't really his fault. But he's not the worst FF protagonist (since Vaan exists).
I'm also having a hard time ranking the X ladies. In the game itself I don't really have a favorite (although Lulu is the least useful one combat-wise), but X-2 happened and it might have soured my memories of Yuna and especially Rikku.
It's much easier to do in other games: Aerith > Yuffie > Tifa, Freya > Dagger > Eiko, Fran > Ashe >> Penelo, Fang >> Lightning >>>>>>> Vanille...

The first Robocop and the first two Terminator are guddamn amazing. Whicever one likes the most, I'd say boils more down to personal taste.
And the two Robocop sequels certainly were more entertaining than anything that happened to the Terminator series post-T2.
Fuck, I'd even take the PG13 Robocop remake over T-Genysis or Dark Fate.

I dont really like Terminator 2. While I like Arnold's performance, (How could you not?) I really hate the kid. And I'm not huge on insane Sarah Connor. There's very little in that movie that I enjoy. I actually enjoy the creeping horror of Terminator 1 much much more.
Meanwhile Robo-cop is just outstanding. It is an almost perfect movie.
And character-wise, broken man, rediscovering his humanity is far more interesting to me than reprogrammed robot learns that he likes the kid he was reprogrammed to like.

I understand that for sure. I was never bothered by kid Jhon Connor, personally, but I get why he can grind someone's gears. My favorite part of T2 is most definately Rober Patrick as the T1000 tho, the guy was so dedicated to the part he took lessons to learn how to shoot a gun without blinking, just because he thought that'd be a very cool detail to add to the Uncanny Valley effect he was supposed to convey. So I guess funny enough it is a matter of horror elements for me too.

Well, I'm twenty-three years late, but here I am. Better late than never? The only other Final Fantasy game I own and played at all is XIII, which I both enjoyed and hated in equal measures. I remember then a lot of people would say that Lightning is gender-bent Cloud, and now that I'm more informed I can see the connection. I've also played Bravely Default, if you want to count that, and I enjoyed it far more than XIII. It may not be FF nominally, but it is an honorary FF title.
After I spilled the beans about my love for VII Remake and that I've been playing Classic, one of my friends gifted me X/X-2 for Steam, incidentally. He said it was his favorite game in the series, and I've heard from quite a few people that it's one of the best. My only knowledge about X is the scene where Yuna, I believe, tries to teach Tidus how to laugh or something, and it's like that scene from T2 where John Connor tried to teach the T-800 how to laugh.
So, now I have X on my to-do-list after I finish VII. I'm very tempted to replay the remake after I finish the original, feeling that I would have a better appreciation for it. I found myself stunned at how much I loved it, I think it's a beautiful game with a lot of love put into it, JRPG jankiness-aside. I certainly didn't expect to be so endeared by the characters as I am now. The famous love triangle of Final Fantasy is finally unfolding before my eyes firsthand, and it's charming. It took me a while to decide between Aerith and Tifa, and it's only proof at how likeable both options are, but it seems clear to me that Aerith is the heart and soul of the game. Even gone, she casts a long shadow.

T2 is a perfect movie in my eyes, and while I have a lot of love for the first Robocop, T2 still edges out over it to me.
"The unknown future rolls toward us. I face it for the first time with a sense of hope, because if a machine, a Terminator, can learn the value of human life, maybe we can too."
That is still one of the finest closing lines to any movie that ever was or will be.

Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
I understand that comparing these two movies is not even really fair. The goals of the two movies are completely different. One is a satire first and formost, one is an action movie first and foremost.
I get why people like T2, but in the age old argument between it and Robocop, I'll take Robocop any day of the week. You might say that I'd buy it for a dollar..

This X scene really is not as bad as it sounds - it is about Tidus teaching Yuna how to laugh when you don't feel like it, and the context really explains the overall tone.
My two cents on the various other episodes of the series I have at least tried to play, trying to be objective:
VI - great story, a very classic gameplay, and it's a Super-NES game, so 16-bit I think? It is the one that wins most of the "best FF game" polls.
VIII - I never managed to get in because of how much I don't like Squall's personality. From what I heard it has a very original magic system, and the love story is much more central than in other titles.
IX - a very "old school" episode, characters are cartoonish, super-deformed and colorful, but the world and themes are very dark. Combat system is very close to VII, except the characters are way more specialized and learn abilities through their equipment. It features what might be the most popular FF character overall, Vivi.
X - another "it looks colorful but geez that world sucks" episode, very linear but the story is super strong. Pure turn by turn with an interesting skill system in the Sphere grid. Probably the episode in which grinding will make you the most godly, and also the episode most famous for various challenge, Nuzlocke-like runs (named NSG for No Sphere Grid - you finish the game without using the thing that gives abilities and stats).
XII - probably the main series game that feels the most "different" like a single-player MMO, it gives a ton of freedom and areas to explore, but is not very character-focused as it deals about large-scale politics instead of world-threatening monsters. Out of the 6 characters, 2 are just tagging along and basically entirely irrelevant, and that includes the poster boy Vaan. It's set in Ivalice, like the various FF Tactics games, and you can learn a ton about the lore in the in-game encyclopedia.
X-2 really depends on how much you enjoy magical girl/fanservice stuff and how much you care about some characters becoming significantly dumber. The combat system is real interesting, the story is not. Actually, the combat system looks a lot like a real-time Bravely Default, but Bravely Default had a way more solid story and characters (at least until it took a ticket to boringland in the later chapters).
Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
My personal favorite of Final Fantasy is IX.
I think that's the best one, it's was also my first FF so eh I'm biased about it, I did play FF7 later but I didn't like as much as 9.

Fuck, left this window open without replying last night. Pretend I did.
Yuna's journey becomes exceptionally tragic, as well as Wakka's faith (fayth hur hurr), but really, the concept of Tidus final character arc and acting like an actual teenager was acceptable when _I_ was a teen, but far, far less so now. Never played an FF beyond that tho, but I do remember that 12 had that ultra-twink with the half vest, and I can imagine nothing good came of it. Tempted to try the boy band simulator one.
Yuffie = Aeris > Tifa, which is odd, because I'd normally go for the Oppai option. Let's see...I know I beat one of the pixel games, the one with Sabin and the ghost train, can't remember the characters except the green hair plot device girl. Played 8 a fair ways, remember disliking Squall not going for the horned up teacher. Didn't play 9. Gosh.
The real blood sport is in Persona anyway.

Tidus comes out as extremely tone-deaf and unable to read the room, because the reveal is hinted at a whole lot throughout the game. He gets sympathy from me to a degree because he comes from another world, but as far as perky FF leads go, Zidane is way more enjoyable.
12 indeed has the worst lead ever, and it's even more infuriating because he's easily the character with the best stats in the squad, while the coolest ones (Balthier & Fran) are subpar. But if you get into the universe and the story (which takes a while and is not easy, granted) it is a great game, with one of the few antagonists in the series you can actually sympathize with.
That pixel game is 6, and...well, Terra is a plot device at some point but from what I recall it's a game in which there is no true lead, or more accurately where the lead changes throughout the game. She's still the poster child for that opus in the many crossovers that have been released like Dissidia.
I'll join TT in saying that 9 is my favorite and is a great game with a great cast.
Vol wrote:The real blood sport is in Persona anyway.
I've never tried Persona, although all people I know who've played describe it as god-tier. Last time I listened to the hype was for Witcher 3 and I basically buried an entire month of my life playing it, so I'm wary with this one.

There's a huge mod available called Untitled Project X that fixes a lot of the issues the remaster still has, I highly recommend getting it.
Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
So, Total War: Warhammer II. I'm playing as Imrik and man, what a different campaign so far. I'm something like 115 turns into the campaign and still stuck at the east side of the map. I'm having some secure built up provinces, so money now is rolling in at a good pace, but for the longest time I didn't have enough money in the bank to build up all the cities, which just now, for the last ten to fifteen turns, has been changing.
And I am faced with a dilemma. I want to get to the ocean, to be able to trade with my fellow high elves and the rest of the world I don't have direct borders to. I thought I'd go through the mountains and directly to that river inlet where the Border Princes are located. But the Ordertide has rolled in fierce and now I am facing the combined might of the Dawi and the Empire, who together have something like sixty settlements and are in a military alliance. Not a good idea, especially since Chaos just showed up.
Luckily, there is a chance, since Kroq-Gar has not expanded very rapidly and it seems I can get through a gap where Clan Mors still holds some settlements. CORRECTION: Clan Mors has almost wiped out Kroq-Gar, while I wasn't looking, and now I can just take over that whole region. Nice!
But after that, I'll have to slog through the desert and face the Tomb Kings to get to a port at the ocean. It's a good thing Imrik has an amazing range of suitable climates, with Desert and Mountains included.
Although I just managed to confederate Eltharion, so it's possible that Ulthuan will just fall into my hands in short order. Normally, after you confederate a big faction on Ulthuan, the rest will be much more amenable to it shortly thereafter. I kinda wish I had not done it, but OTOH, if I don't do it, I lose out on the legendary lord after the faction has been confederated. I almost lost out on Teclis, because he was wiped out before I could get to him, but a mod (Recruit Defeated Legendary Lords) helped out with that.
Oh, and one amazing thing about Imrik: Dragons. Aside from him buffing all dragons immensely, he also has super-duper high upkeep reduction. My army now (just since three turns, so I just now got into that position) features 18 dragons, Imrik on his special dragon and a Fire Mage with an amazing stat and she can get a Sun Dragon later on. Total upkeep : 2026 gold. Where normally an individual dragon has something like 500 gold upkeep.
Amazing campaign and it's the FLC for this lord pack.
Sadly, today I got a whole day of work before me and after that I'm GM'ing my roleplaying group. So it will have to wait for the weekened. Or the Queek'end, if you catch my drift.

Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
So, what's the situation after another 70 turns of Total War: Warhammer II with our extremely Macauly Culkin-like Prince Imrik? Hoooo, boy.
Remember that I said that after confederating Eltharion the campaign would probably get too easy? Perish that fucking thought. Here's what happened: I fucked up enough two times in a row to reload the save file from Thursday. ^^
Now, on the third try, I got it halfway right. First off, taking out Queek Headtaker was about the most painful experience I had in TW: WH2 for years. The MF'er likes to use the Underways a LOT, is really good at it (i.e. very seldomly gets caught) and also had a damn good army with him, which wiped me one time with Alith Anar. Only after I got three armies I managed to corner the bastard, kill him and then slowly grind down his realm, which was the entire rest of the south eastern edge of the map (i.e. Kroq-Gar's and Khalida's realm).
MEANWHILE on Ulthuan, I did manage to slowly confederate the rest of the High Elves. Tyrion was the last one to go with a bribe of 150k gold. However, the problem was that Clan Rictus and Malekith were simultaneously invading and Tyrion only gave up after being down to six settlements and no army. In the end, I just got out in time with Eltharion to avoid getting killed there, only to get ambushed by three army stacks from Clan Mors and also take a nap for a while. But okay, Queek and his clan Mors are now down.
Only that I am not able to bulldoze my way through to the sea at the southernest strip of land of the map, either, because due to Archaon showing up very late (like ten turns ago), everybody now on the side of order is in a military alliance, including those mini-factions in the south with the fucking dwarves.
Soooo. So, so, so, so. I guess it's Dawi hunting time. But, I gotta prepare for that. I got four stacks at the time, which is not nearly enough to secure my borders when I go kicking some stumpy hairy ass. Which means, I got to build up my armies to at least seven full stacks, i.e. all the legendary lords of the Elves, then get them into position and THEN declare war on an ally of the dwarves, and ONLY of the dwarfes. Otherwise I'd have the Empire on my ass, too, which would be very sub-optimal, given that they have 80 fricking provinces (to the 46 of the dwarves). I myself only got 36 and those are only half fully built up.
Oh, and of course kicking the dwarves ass won't be enough to end this campaign. I gotta go and liberate Ulthuan and then send a very sternly worded letter to Malekith and Tretch Craventail that their actions in kicking me out of Ulthuan were unacceptable. That'll take a while, they got another 90 settlements put together.
I might also have to kill Mazdamundi, because he also went on a Military Alliance spree.
Needless to say, I'm loving this campaign. Contrary to the normal faceroll you get with High Elves (a bit of a tough start, then confederate Ulthuan, after that you basically automatically win), this really is hard work and fun as hell.

Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
And now on to my own nerdiness, I've been looking into the 'Dere' personalities and find that I'm rather attracted to the Kuudere and Hinedere. Although I originally thought the Tsundere was my ultimate prize because of the contrast they represent as a whole, I think the Kuu and Hine represent more of a contrast between themselves and myself. Something about that distant, yet intelligent nature they have. Their coldness to social situations and tendencies to be blunt and cynical. I just love it.
Yanderes though....ouch. Though I think the real life male equivalent would be the guy in the bar who punches a dude for talking to his girl.
I wonder what kind of dere I am, if I'm any at all?

I don't even know if I understand this what all the types are.

It started when people noticed identifiable personality traits;
Arrogant.
Distant.
Kind.
Sad.
Shy.
And then combined that with the lovey dovey part of 'dere' to make them different types of romantic interests.
This article has info on the basic types plus some I didn't know even existed.
https://www.gojinshi.com/popular-dere-t ... and-manga/
Though I personally think there's 4 - 5 prime types with subcategories for people to argue over.
And this is the wiki dedicated to explaining every single one with character lists.

magnuskn wrote:So, Total War: Warhammer II.
*snippity do dah, snippty dey, boy oh boy what a wonderful day*
Sadly, today I got a whole day of work before me and after that I'm GM'ing my roleplaying group. So it will have to wait for the weekened. Or the Queek'end, if you catch my drift.
Yeah, for a free lord, he seems cool as hell. Funnily enough, in my Grom campaign, I've taken the north eastern quadrant of not!Africa, and just declared war on Mors. Their stacks as nasty as hell, but so far, I endure. The Greenskin rework has made gobbos not quite endgame units, but damn close, with all perks and scrap. For variety, one of my armies is pure ork, and they seem oddly weak. Black orc units going up against spawned clanrats and taking like 15% unit damage seems off.
But the new mechanics are fun as hell. Just waiting for WAAAGH to build back up so I can put the ratmen in their place, cooking for buffs is silly and so fun, and the 3 flavor of snotling wagons punch far, far beyond their weight class. Though orks seem gypped, the ability to play the faction as a whole has gone through the roof. I became quite angry trying to push through a Greeksin campaign before the update.

Greenskins definitely are the most improved by this update. I'll have to give them a try one of these days, probably the next time I play TW: WH2. But I think I'll need a little break after this campaign, given that I am probably another 150 turns from completing it. I'll get back to it during the next week, though, I need a short break after playing all day yesteday.

Its a hard question for me to answer because, realistically, AAAAAAAAALLLLLLL these tropes are very one dimensional. So in the real world would any of then truly be desirable?
That said, in terms of the ones I find most interesting... Everyone likes tsundere. They're just charming.
And I feel like a lot of people confuse yandere and dorodere. Yandere is actually scary. Dorodere is kind of weirdly fun.
I dont know. I need more than just those basics. Thinking of all my 'waifu's, they are all vastly different. And some I dont even know how to categorize. Example: Persona 5, Futaba. She doesn't seem to fall into any of those categories.
