Vol wrote:There we go, knocked out 100% in River City Girls. Hardest part was remembering all the boss strategies and not buying health items on my first run through. After that, it's a breeze. Reminded me of the old Ninja Turtle beat-em-ups in that 1 of the playable characters is basically Raphael, in that all his moves blow compared to the others. For some reason I do not know, when I did NG+ on any character except the first one in the save file, it'd automatically give me $10k. Which is necessary for 2 secret items in the secret shop, and would take hours of grinding to earn otherwise.

Decent game. Needed more content, since what is there is very nice to look at. Writing was great, characters were endearing, villains were fun, the last boss (non-secret) had adorable animations. Was rather easy once you learn the systems, and if you don't try to be fancy. Such as always using the down+special AOE clear ability during your i-frames while getting up. Stutter block to bait attacks or make an enemy drop theirs. Keep some lasagna on you at all times, heavy weapons are useless, etc.

I played this some more last night in 'Loiter'. I'm still getting my ass handed to me by street folk at level 26. Some of them, like the sledge hammer punk rockers take off almost a quarter of my health in one swing. What am I doing wrong?

Funnily enough, the special enemies almost never even hit me, because I viewed them as visually threatening, so I was always careful. It was the normal school enemies that I'd get beaten down by, because I'd try to get fancy with combos.

Sledgehammers I outright do not engage in melee. I'll toss a body/item at them, jump around them, or avoid them, because I have no idea what kind of invulnerability frames they have on their spin, and once they're down, stomp and stunlock. But in general, I'd try to herd the screen together, then run in and do the light combo into either a launcher combo, or if the character has a good one, use the Special bar, stomp stomp stomp, get behind the pack, and once they're up, repeat.

Congrats to another year, even if a bit late!

Sorry, been playing Shadowlands beta the entire weekend, one to see the story, two to see how fast I can go. I really didn't pay attention to anything else since Saturday morning.

Main takeaways: Bastion story is a bit boring, the rest are fine (yes, even Maldraxxis, a zone I find incredibly ugly) ; most parts of professions can be done without leaving the main hub city at around level 51 ; I really lost the fun of playing Frost Mage as my main and am going to take a Havoc Demon Hunter as my new main.

"A nearly complete skeleton of a Tyrannosaurus rex, standing 13 feet high, 40 feet long and comprised of 188 bones, sold at auction for a whopping $31.8 million Tuesday night, breaking the record for the highest price paid for dinosaur fossils. The original estimate for the T. Rex skeleton, nicknamed Stan, was $8 million, but during a 20-minute bidding war during auction house Christie's 20th Century Evening Sale, the price soared to $31,847,500, nearly four times the original estimate. "Stan" was named after amateur paleontologist Stan Sacrison, who discovered the fossilized remains in 1987. The fossil has spent the past few years being studied and examined at the Black Hills Institute of Geological Research in South Dakota. James Hyslop, head of Christie's Science & Natural History department, described the fossilized remains as "one of the best specimens ever discovered." The previous record-holder for a dinosaur fossil was a comparable Tyrannosaurus rex named Sue, which was purchased by the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago and sold for $8.36 million (or an inflation-adjusted $13.5 million price tag) in 1997."

So, who bought poor Stan? Some other tycoon or Hollywood asshole? Because there's already two or three invaluable specimens that felt in grasps of privates, including one that is similar to the "fighting dinosaurs" from Mongolia, but with a young T-rex and a Triceratops locked in battle. The fact we keep losing such things to private collectors is just... saddening...

I assume that when you can drop $30M on a dinosaur skeleton, you have a house large enough to put it on display.

Honestly, better that than rich idiots owning rare, endangered exotic animals. Not as bad a way to flaunt your wealth IMO. It also pollutes less than buying a jet or a supercar.

Did some digging and this is what I found: Stan was purchased via anonymous bid so the buyer remains unidentified, but apparently there's enough clues that members of the scientific community suspect the buyer was someone rich and powerful in the Middle East.

If it's any consolation, Stan is the most duplicated T.Rex fossil on the planet, and replicas and casts of him are in museums all over the world, so the image of him can continue to impress and inspire generations to come even if the original fossils of Stan can no longer be observed and studied now that its out of museum stewardship.

Buy a g'damn replica. Most museums even have fake bones on display for safety (both of the public and of the fossils) reasons. I don't see why anybody can justify being so selfish and narcissitic that they'll gladly spend millions on something like that. Same goes for any major archeologycal artifact that gets hoarded away in some private collection, it's not just me being salty because dinosaurs.

Great. So you're telling me Stan is likely gonna end up in the palace of some arabian oil tycoon who think dinosaurs drowned in the Great Flood. Just wonderful.

We do have a copy of him in Milano too, yes. So there's that. Still not something that makes me particularly happy.

Well, I bought myself Persona 4 Golden PC for my birthday, since I really enjoyed the Vita version, and was in the mood. Sadly, it appears to reject my hardware configuration on principle. Takes 5 or so starts and hard exits to actually launch, getting random freezes after a few hours of Yukiko's dungeon, so I guess that's that until a patch comes.

So...is good? The delay certainly implies there's some major work to do still, and I know there's a ton of critique on the mechanics side, but lore and questing is more my speed.

Well, in vanilla 5, I didn't get much further than the aftermath of Kamoshida's palace. As it is now, Persona 5 Royal has become the definitive Persona 5 for me. I can't even imagine playing the original version anymore and missing out on the things they've added.

That is more or less the correct opinion. Royal is an improvement in nearly every way. Though I do think it suffers from pacing issues near the end IF you know how the story originally went. I also dont like the new ending as much, even though it is functionally the same.

At least the leveling is World of Warcraft as usual. The delay very probably is because class balance is way off and some of their endgame subsystems (Mainly Soulbinds, Conduits and Legendaries) are still not working as they should or need more balancing against each other. Some classes still play clunky or their legendaries are uninspiring / unbalanced. Some raid mechanics for Castle Nathria apparently need more work. All in all, the extra weeks should hopefully straighten that out. I'm crossing my fingers for a December 01st release, which would be ideal for my schedule.

As for the zones overall, they are all quite nice in at least some aspect. I liked Revendreths story and look much more than I expected (however good luck navigating that zone without flying of some kind, it's often very vertical) and I was more bored by the Bastion story than I thought I would be, while the zone itself is just stunningly beautiful. Maldraxxus is ugly as sin, however the story is competently done. Ardenweald is just gorgeous overall, but the story is much darker than I thought it would be.

As for leveling speed, after leveling while reading the story quests texts in about 1 1/2 days on my Mage (where I luckily found out that I just don't enjoy the playstyle anymore, before commiting to the class as my main character for the expansion), I timed myself doing leveling on my Demon Hunter (my new main class) without reading quest texts, and came out with about 1 day (i.e. about 10-12 hours) of leveling time from 50 to 60. This probably will be somewhat enhanced by zone overcrowding in the first week, however dynamic mob spawning should fix that. If your class has a low kill speed you can probably add another few hours to that. I'm planning on leveling a Protection Paladin as my fourth "main" character (as to experience the entire story of all four covenants), so that may take a while longer, although being able to pull large packs could help a bit.

I'll be leveling a second Hunter when the pre-patch drops tomorrow, because I need an Enchanter who I want to take out into the world, since a few of the endgame recipes are locked behind reputations. Probably will be an Enchanting / Skinning combo, to supply mats for the legendaries I want to craft. And it will let me experience the new starting zone for new characters, which is a plus.

That, I can actually agree with. I started out from dinosaurs as a kid, but natural history as a whole is just a very fascinating topic for me, and there's a lot of cool stuff that gets ignored or underappreciated because people just want to see if the new big Theropod is "bigger and scarier than T-rex" and dumb shit like that. I don't think I will ever be able to find dinosaurs boring, but there's so much more in our fossil records that is worth looking into.

I can't understand why people will gladly spend millions on yachts, planes, cars or several luxury homes.

Some people have too much money and we live in a world where they can pretty much do whatever they want with it - and I say that without even going into Epstein-like uses of this money.

So buying a dinosaur is among those things they can do, but as far as fucking the planet up goes, this is among the mildest ways for them to waste their excessive wealth. When I see how much some assholes use their jets to move around the world basically on their own, I would much rather see them own a T-Rex than a plane.

Moved the installation to the OS drive and running as admin seems to help. Probably some issues with memory access. Finished Yukiko's dungeon (2 days) and no crashes, currently at the last day of rain before the fog lifts. Saving constantly, but hoping this fixed it.

My biggest surprise thus far is that Chie is more grating than I remembered her being 8 years ago. And Yosuke's a doofus, but he's more clever than I thought. You can easily see the roots for Ryoji here. Though Persona 3 _also_ had the archetype, the games do have some consistent elements (Teddie and Morgana). I liked the premise for P5 more, in that the PC was completely fucked over and everybody hated him, so his progression to success was meaningful. Yu otherwise starts out as a Chad who makes friends with 2 cute girls immediately. The blank slate cool guy is _overall_ easier to project onto, plus his visual design is superior, but lacks that element of progress.

No real new content, other than some quest about getting MOTHER from Uldir to the Chamber of the Heart to, I assume, actually put a pin in "HER WYOUNDS." And also the new customizations. Game badly needs more skimpy outfits, all the old ones have not aged well.

"very vertical" "vertical" Oh boy. Blades Edge Mountains all over again.

But the gist I'm getting from you is that it's solid. Needs work, but not a disaster, at least yet. That's mildly reassuring. Especially given Blizzard is closing some studio(s?) in Europe and the French team is going on strike.

Yeah, it's really hard to look at the low-res models nowadays. I got the Warglaives of Azzinoth for my Demon Hunter main and it's always an "egghhh.." feel to see the low-res textures.

Anyway, the quest lines will be starting soon, they are a bit delayed since the expansion was moved to *date unknown*.

At least it's pretty this time! Anyway, stock up on Goblin Gliders for that zone.

Yeah, I'm keeping my fingers crossed, especially since I'll be raiding again this expansion.

I think Chie gets better as she goes. Early on she is very one note.

Yosuke has a bad start, gets better, has a TERRIBLE middle section, and then actually becomes a pretty fun character. He won me back as the game progressed, but that school camping trip... he is THE WORST.

I think Persona 5 is a better game, and Joker is a better, more interesting character. But Man... Persona 4. I just keep thinking about it. I liked it so much more than I expected to. I really want to play it again, but there's a lot of games coming up (finally) and I swore I will not play another Persona game again until I play 3.

Roughly two centuries after everyone else I have started playing Pokemon Go, and while it is an utterly dumb game combat-wise, the collection aspect is making me walk a lot, which is healthy. 100.000 steps last week, my FitBit is super happy.

Yeah, it can do that. I just wish the spawn rate was better in my area.
Sadly I still don't want to walk around my area.
Plus I am going a little covid scared and choosing to not go outside.

I stockpiled those for BFA, they get used far faster than you expect. Had so many on my main that I didn't use the last stack and have to make more until resubbing to finish up this and that before the expansion ended. Even sold a couple thousand to help me along on the Bruto grind.

Yeah, she's mellowed out a bit. Kanji just had his gay bath house bit on the Midnight Channel where I'm at. Yukiko starts to open up, laugh fits, had the Courage to ask for her number outright. Felt good, man.

Kanji is very much bisexual. I'd forgotten exactly how he was presented, given a certain sort of fan has terrible interpretations of the character arcs, but I thought I remembered him as vaguely hinted as bi. But he's clearly into Naoto when he thinks she's a he. Also Naoto's voice is clearly a woman pitching down, which I didn't notice the first time I played. Took me until much later before I really suspected she was a woman in disguise. Might've been the fault of the Vita's speakers.

Hierophant is always a very solid SL. The older man who doesn't know how to deal with you, but wants the best, and you go through a lot of shit to find understanding, I'll happily take it again in P6.

Yosuke at SL 4 is where the romance path would've started to be implied. I was watching for it, and got a childish laugh at him calling Yu "partner" and talking about "hands," but SL4 is where the seed is planted. "If someone had to see my innermost secrets and desires, I'm glad it was you (Yu)."

I do like Chie, but she seems like someone who constantly needs to wipe her mouth because she slobbers while she talks out of sheer excitement.

Kanji more or less literally confirms his bisexuality In his own dungeon. He says "Men, women, it dont matter" or something similar.

I honestly cant speak for Naoto, because I already had that twist spoiled for me online. But women voicing males in anime isn't exactly a new thing. So even then it could go either way.

Dojima is fine. i like him. But hes no Sojiro.

Yosuke really should have been a romance option. I think it would have worked.
