Apparently the price of antiques is plummeting across the board because younger people mostly don't care. On the one hand there is something sad about this. On the other it just means I will be able to buy cool old stuff for less and less money as I get older.
Market correction!
Though I'm reminded of the sheer number of houses I've worked in with full sets of fine china and cocktail party glassware that looks never used. One of our regular clients, who sadly is too old to handle her steep driveway any longer and moved to a retirement village, had a conversation with me once about how she was actually happy to have had cocktail parties and the like go out of style, even though she kept all the dishes for it.

That super sucks. This happened to me one time when I just graduated from college and was living in an apartment with my mom. She woke me up in the middle of the night one night and then told me "she was just checking." The next morning she told me she woke up and saw a random dude standing over her while she slept and he fled back out the window he came in when she woke up. (She will sleep with the window open in summer sometimes).
There is very little that produces the same visceral reaction as somebody violating your space like this.

Even I'm pretty ambivalent about old decorative dishes. That being said I do have a set of this Japanese stuff I bought for Theo because he is a tea fiend and because it's super cool. It's called dragonware.

I know the feeling, had some family in my life until recently stole from use for decades at night when they visited us, that hurt more then it being scary though, still it was uneasy looking back thinking that while I was sleeping they were walking around and taking stuff.

Good thing that most people are total pansies when it comes to breaking in. My old neighbor who was 88 at the time managed to scare away a couple of burglars by waving his cane. Got written about in the local newspaper too.
"I imprint my thoughts on this device as a record of history. We began this journey as pilgrims of commerce and we now continue it as pilgrims of grace."

Gotta take him to a real cha-no-yu at some point. Don't know what kind of ware they use, probably simple, but ancient, if its a good one, but the ritual and symbolism aught be pleasing. And the tea can't be half bad either.

Breaking and entering is the only crime I even think about, day to day. The violation of the personal space is especially egregious. Glad they failed tho.

The Shape of Rome
Really good essay on the history of the city of Rome and how its buildings are layers built on layers built on layers for something like 3000 years.

I think I have found the most relaxing video game ever: Dorfromantik.

It's a building game: you get a pile of hexagonal tiles, one by one, and you have to place them. On those tiles you can have a varying number of fields, trees, houses, or railroads, or a river.
Your tile pile is finite, and to get new ones - and as such, build the largest possible landscape - you need to use some tiles that have "missions" on them - for example, a forest tile that says "must be connected to at least 100 trees", or a railroad tile that says "must be part of an exactly 7-tile-long railroad". If you succeed in a mission, you get 5 new tiles under your pile.
It costs ten bucks on steam, it's still a pre-release - there will be a "free mode" later on, right now there is only the "mission mode", but it's incredibly soothing.

That's a pretty nifty artstyle too. From what you're saying it fits the game rather well.

Harvest Moon/Story of Season games are supposed to do that.
I end up trying to optimize my time for no actual goal.

Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
Tried to learn a bit about the b-theory of time today, while also flicking between other stuff, and watching the OWL opening weekend games.
Summary: It's weird, complicated, and counter-intuitive to our innate sense of time.
A-theory, presentism, is that time is more or less what we think it is. A present moment, moving forward, the past and present are real, the future is potential, and there's a cosmic frame of reference as well as our personal frame of reference. There's a beginning, present, and theoretical end.
B-theory, eternalism, is that all of time exists simultaneously, as in, from the first moment of existence, all of existence, time included, existed. Think: A completely written book, cover to cover. Our perception is yet another cognitive illusion, because in the 4th dimension, we occupy all our physical positions simultaneously, and we think we're actively moving forward through time (page by page) for some bizarre reason that also precludes having any knowledge of our future selves. There's a problem with entropy in this one, but it also fits nicely into determinism/materialism as avoiding the problem of natural infinity being impossible. I don't know how, but people keep saying it does.
I am surely half right on anything I just typed, but when I read that the majority of philosophers agree with b-theory, and I actually looked up the source, it was more "16% a-theory, 25% b-theory, and the rest had no opinion." Tricky, tricky.

Primal Rage is one of those IPs that's in desperate need of a reboot/remake/sequel. It's a shame to see such a fun concept just gather dust.

The new attraction is officially called "Godzilla the Ride: Great Kaiju Decisive Dominance Battle" and will be available at the Seibuen Amusement Park in Japan beginning May 19. Promotional material for the new permanent Godzilla-themed ride has also revealed what appear to be new designs for both Godzilla and King Ghidorah."

Seriously. Just give it to NRS, drop the human avatars thing and do a big dumb monster brawl, it'd be heaps of fun. Who knows, maybe after thei're done with the third, and supposedly final, Injustice game...

That is a really cool model for a really cool character and attempting to create glow effects all over that piece would take longer than Kroak has been dead to finish.
In other news, spring refuses to be sprung over here. Been oscillating between 40s and high 60s for weeks. Going to be mid 70s tomorrow, then dip down to just above freezing, in the next few days. Wacky.

Got food poisoning again. Twice in a week's time, about.
Spent the entire day in bed or throwing up bile. Wasn't able to hold down water until around 7 PM, managed to get about 200 calories in me by midnight. Good times!
How was your day, boys?
