Hunting WOT. Skip at leisure.
If I was given my pick of weapons, I would've defaulted to a rifle. For whatever reason, the concept of having good aim has always seemed very important to me. Which for bows, is even more earned. I say that having never fired a real gun before, too.
Instant death and blood isn't a concern. More minimizing necessary suffering. My father was telling me about a friend of his who used to get air-dropped into Alaskan wilderness and live off the land while bow hunting bears. I imagine, unless he was William Tell reborn, it was a little gratuitous. But easy an elephant gun on a deer would be too. 15 seconds mobile with a hole through their heart seems pretty remarkable tho.
So rounding up, about a grand to get kitted out and learned gud how to handle yourself. Not a bad introduction price for a very useful hobby, really.
My friends, who were lucky enough to have fathers who'd take them out hunting, all were after birds, as I recall. Doves & ducks. Probably for those reasons.
But that's a hopeful essay. When it's time to relocate, not out of reach to take it up. Learning to shoot, probably first and foremost.

Strong roster. Some of those unit descriptions sound hilariously broken if used properly. An ogre chevron formation might outdo the dwarves.

There it is! A proper hard mode, some fun modes, and a tiny bit of new dialogue. Hope that means the loading screens are fixed for SSDs too.

At work, we just had to move into another building that used to be the city jailhouse back in the 1940s and 1950s. Everybody that used to work in it swears upside and downside that it's haunted. Two of my co-workers have already wracked up creepy stories of weird shit happening. I'm really not into this in any kind of serious way, but it makes for fun stories if nothing else.

The main reason I push archery is also because a lot of public lands do not permit rifle hunting out of safety concerns. It may be different in your area. And if you don't know somebody with acreage who will let you hunt there or want to pay hundreds to thousands for a deer lease, public lands hunting is by far the most accessible for most people. I also cannot overstate how superior modern archery equipment is to historical archery equipment. I can take pretty much any random person off the street and put them on a sighted in crossbow with a tripod shooting at 30 or less yards and they will be making clean kill shots with it inside five minutes. Also, you get first dibs with archery hunting. There is usually an archery only season which precedes gun season by nearly a month and you can continue to hunt with archery throughout gun season as well. (Some states also have a muzzleloader special season if you want to be a weirdo and go hunt deer with a musket. I actually want to try this at some future point).
As for running with a heart shot, there are two caveats there. One is that realistically, you probably will not make a perfect heart shot but will shoot through both lungs. The heart is rather low in the deer's chest and is partially shielded by the front legs which makes perfect placement contingent on how the animal is standing as well as aim. The other is that deer are *stupidly* fast. Rule of thumb is that they usually fall within 75 yards of where you shot them but they can run 75 yards in not much time at all. Given I hunt in woods and brushy country, this means they run out of sight and I pretty much never see one physically fall because my field of view is limited. 15 seconds is something of a guess at an average. Sometimes it's more, sometimes less. Other rule of thumb is to wait 20 minutes before looking for the animal because if it's not quite dead, if you rush it sometimes it can get enough of another burst of energy to get up and run again for some distance.
I've never done ducks before. It's actually one of the more convoluted expensive ones what with needing dogs and boats and whatnot to be really effective at it from what I know. Doves I did do for a while but stopped because it was another high expense (in the form of shooting ludicrous numbers of shotgun shells) for not much gain. Doves are delicious but it takes like 6-8 birds to be a meal for 1 person and there are just not that many places that can reliably return that number of birds and considering you are shooting them on the wing, you need really good aim or a willingness to spend a lot of money on shells.

I was just grading some kids' works, and one of the exercises was manually drawing a plot showing the evolution of the weight of newborn squirrels and rabbits and to compare the curves.
One kid did everything right, except during the analysis where he forgot about the units and said how 60 years old rabbits weighted 700 kilograms - instead of 60 days old rabbits weighing 700 grams.
Reminded me of this:

At the job I finished up earlier this week, the homeowner's kids are all in high school (They had 4 of them within 4 years). But in the kitchen, they had a piece of paper pinned up, and it was one of the sons writing a letter about why he wanted a pet and how he would take good care of it. It was so old he hadn't learned silent consonants yet ("pik up after my pet"), and it was adorable how he framed his petition for a dog solely in how he would be responsible for it.
I'm not good with kids, but they are painfully cute sometimes. (I quite literally never learned my units of measure in school, only through life experience.)

Gotta say, I really like how CA is this time giving every starting faction some sort of really unique playstyle, instead of having only little extras on the more generic ones from TW:WH 1 and 2. Well, they learned a lot with the DLC releases of TW:WH 2, Three Kingdoms and Troy.
Really kinda makes me excited how an eventual Medieval 3 is going to handle its factions.

Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
I received a letter today. It was from the water company, letting me know that our tainted drinking water, caused by the tropical storm at the start of September, had finally been fully cleaned.
They never told me the tap water was tainted. And I started having these mystery allergic reactions at that exact time. So I'm a little annoyed, and wondering if Erin Brockovich is still alive.
Nurgle looks great, that's who I'm expecting to be my first campaign. Upshot of all the DLC, I suppose, getting to test the waters, then adjust, before a big commitment. But they've generally done a good job with the unique campaigns lately, Beastmen rework especially. Made it _fun_ without needing to paint the map.
If they ever make it, I better be able to sail the ERE to Mexico, or else.

Yep, playing the Byzantines is always my favorite thing about Europe-centered Total War's, too.
Strangely enough, although I'm German, the HRE never does it for me.
Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
It gets rough that they don't have any gunpowder units, or good artillery, in the late game though. I imagine the HRE is to you what the Apache nation is to me, different people, in a different time, heh.

Mostly I found the use of Landsknecht units very strange in their roster in Medieval 2, because they don't really belong in that time period. That made me feel that the HRE was portrayed anachronistically. Also, I always find it difficult to play nations which are surrounded on all sides by enemies, and Germany is a prime example of that in the olden times.

Yup, as a Night Elf main and fan of the race overall I was extremely furious about all the shit they were forced to suffer through and this whitewashing of Sylvanas (which was extremely predictable after a point, see our conversations here in the past) was one of my main motivators to ditch the game when I did. They ain't getting me back, anyhow, but this puts an exclamation mark to my decision to stay away. Seems Danuser is prepared to ride this rocket all the way down to the ugly explosion at the end.
