I was going to offer some counterpoints, but all I could come up with were people from ancient times. And that's faulty for obvious reasons.

All you gotta do is keep your positives slightly ahead of the shit things you've done.

That's how you get a "Hero" of history.

I had a 25% off coupon to my local Barnes & Noble and bought a duo of novels a week ago that the back covers described as “like Game of Thrones with dinosaurs”. Which it is. It rides that Song of Ice and Fire train hard. The various cultures and their houses compete to see who will sit on the Fanged Throne—or at least influence the one currently on it—and rule the kingdom, which is beset by civil war and a strange supernatural force from the cold North. Because when you play the game of thrones, you either live or you die… usually by the jaws or tonnage of a large, pissed off dinosaur.

Some of the things that have happened:

There’s a prince who rides an albino T-Rex named Snowflake. Together they go out and crush rebellions to the crown.

A knight fights a pack of Deinonychus with only a sword and wins, only losing one hand in the process.

A mercenary fights a wild T-Rex on foot with a bow and arrow and wins, killing it with a shot to the eye, the arrow going straight into the brain.

An Allosaurus war-mount fights a Grey Angel--like a White Walker on steroids--to protect her human rider/trainer. The Allosarus wins, biting it in half. Flawless victory. Fatality.

So far, I think I spent my time and money wisely. DINASAWRS, MAN! DINASAWR WARFARE!

I totally agree with you, and TR did some things that tarnish his history, like staring a civil war in Columbia to free the Panamanians so they can grant him access to build the Panama canal. I also think that preventing a war between Germany and the US in the early 1900's balances out that blemish, but that's besides the point.

But about nobody being perfect, I remember a quote that goes, "The best thing you can do in any situation is the right thing, the 2nd best thing you can do is the wrong thing. The worst thing you can do is nothing." Theodore Roosevelt said that and unfortunately history took that and used it to justify their own decisions, saying 'at least I didn't do nothing'. It's also unfortunate that history doesn't remember the second part of that quote, which goes "And if you do the wrong thing stop it immediately and do the right thing. Then apologize profoundly, profusely and whole heartily." I'm sure political pressure is hard to ignore, but had FDR listened his older cousin's advice, maybe he would have risen above that pressure and showed true character and the ability to not repeat the disasters of history.

Ah, that moment when an enemy Roadhog who's standing on the objective destroys your mech and then tries to hook you, but manages to hook the mech instead, which is now about to detonate, resulting in a quintuple kill. Only for the highlight to get corrupted so you can only see the corner of it.

I couldn't even record it.

Growing my mustache out in hopes of styling it has made some interesting eating experiences. For instance, biting into a sandwich only to have your upper lip pulled into your mouth.

I literally trimmed my mustache yesterday because I was making ribs. I don't know how men who grow the big ones that overlap their bottom lip manage, because it's rough, even with the wax.

Ugh, there are few feelings as repulsive as the sensation of eating your own hair. Coupled with the fact that my facial hair starts to itch easily, I've never really tried to grow a beard beyond two months or so. Stubble is enough for me.

You have to almost admire the utter lack of shame. To not only take someone else's great work and slightly tweak it for you own gain, but then to market it as "like" the source material too. We should all be so lucky.

I miss my beard. I grow facial hair so fast that, according to my squad leader I'm a twice a day shaver.

Out in the field it's like...I shave in the morning, by the next day I'm wearing a survivalist beard.

On leave I don't shave at all. It's glorious.

I grew a full beard not too long ago to see what I looked like with one. I kept it for a year but got rid of it. I don't pull of a beard well. I grew a mustache; I've had it for the last 5 years but shaved it off a few days ago. I felt it was time for a change. And while I can pull of a mean mustache I think I look better without one. For now, at any rate. I grow hair fast so I can always experiment later.

It takes me so long to grow my hair. Last cut my hair short (not a buzz, but a men's cut) in January and a few weeks ago it was long enough to tie back. Beard starts looking like a beard in four to five months. The issue I face it that's it's so thin, beard and hair.

I think its meant to be a tribute. The author and George R.R. Martin seem to know each other and be on good terms, and Martin is one of the people listed on the "In Praise of…" page, so he seems to be ok with it, and the direct comparison to GoT comes from Martin's quote. And the plot does get more original as it progresses. Though it seems to be turning into one of those "humans were once incredibly technologically advanced, but suffered a nasty apocalypse and civilization got sent back to the stone age, and all the displays of magic and supernatural creatures today are just hyper-advanced science and technology that the humans can no longer comprehend" stories. Spirits are holograms, angels are some form of android/robot, etc. There just happens to be dinosaurs everywhere. No explanation for that yet. Some ancient Jurassic Park-esque experiment that ran amok, I assume.

Welp, my mouse decided to crap out on me.
Or at least I think it did. Win10 is being weird occasionally and it might have just derped my mouse.

In any case I am forced to use my graphics tablet as a touchpad until I get a new one.

Anyone got a recommendation for a good gaming mouse that has around 6-8 buttons max and is comparable tot he Anker 8200 dpi gaming mouse?

I was thinking of either the Razer Mamba;
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Razer-Tourname ... azer+Mamba

The Logitech g502;
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Logitech-Prote ... ming+mouse

The Corsair SABRE Gen3;

Or the Corsair M65;

All of you can grow full, thick beards: Fuck you, I'm jealous. I can grow a decent mustache and chin scruff, but the cheeks and sideburns just do not fill out well. But I look like a little boy if I clean shave, so it's a catch 22.

On that note, unless my new scale is wrong, I'm at less than 180 pounds, which at my height, puts me at around 20 BMI. So right on the border of normal and lean. Go me! Though losing 9 pounds in like a month seems unlikely, it can't be water weight with the amount I'm drinking on the job.

No matter what I have to shave every morning. So, don't be jealous. I face a very angry squad leader who likes to make people dry shave with a bayonet if I neglect to shave the fur off.

And the BMI scale? It's utter bullshit. At 6 feet even, 220 lbs, I'm grossly overweight...except for the whole muscular as fuck thing.

As long as you've got a healthy body, BMI doesn't fucking matter.
