Well, I've had a sore neck for most of a week, if sharing misery helps lol It's not severe, but it's definately annoying. Shouldn't be too bad or long-lasting, likely I just over-strained a few muscles, since I've been trying to do some arm exercises lately.

Been tidying up my minis to get ready to start painting again. Didn't realise just how many bits I have now and thinking that I am going to need to do something with them once completed as I don't have an army or anywhere to play with (even if I was interested in it) and no space to have them yet.
I don't think ebay would be interested in some of my kitbashes or slightly custom minis.

Damnit, food poisoning twice? Here I am complaining about my sore legs after trying to run and you're going through hell. Hope it's all out of your system by now.

Me? I'm lazy and pitter pattering about. Managed to learn another piano piece and keeping up at going to the gym, but haven't been keeping up with Japanese lessons or getting any cardio in. Or getting much work done music wise. That scheduling plan I'm been trying out is falling apart, I'm falling back into old habits quickly. Damn it's quite a hurdle to get over, trying to incorporate new things into your daily routine.

Got my elbow x-rayed the other day because it's had an inflammation for like a month, the neighbor has been really damn obnoxious with their constant drilling in the big rock their house is based on and my pollen allergy is acting up, but other than that, I'm doing fine.

Weirdly enough, I was getting constant sore necks for months in winter, no idea why, and then they disappeared just as suddenly. Didn't start doing or stop doing any particular exercise that might've done it either. The body is mysterious.

Got an Army Painter wet palette myself. With proper moistening of the sponge, could probably keep paint 2+ weeks, if it's thick enough on the paper. You're big into kitbashing I take it then?

TTTX wrote:ehh kinda bad since I think have some allergies acting up at the moment, just makes me feel like shit and generally not very hungry.

Ah, right, you guys get the pollen allergies. My brother gets it really badly too. Poor kid fell apart health-wise as an adult, allergies and sensitivities came out of nowhere, can eat even less kinds of food than me, and pollen season makes him stay indoors. You got medicine at least?

SciFlyBoy wrote:Damnit, food poisoning twice? Here I am complaining about my sore legs after trying to run and you're going through hell. Hope it's all out of your system by now.

Yeah, for whatever cosmic reason, I tend to get food poisoning repeatedly in short windows of time. But hey, soreness is weakness leaving the body!

I'm hanging on to my routine. Barely some weeks, but that's why I set the bar _low_. Most important thing about these self-improvement projects is not letting a failure, or near-failure, be an excuse to toss it all out. That kind of thinking has fucked me over more times than the government. So double up on what you didn't do next week, or at least get back into the rhythm!

Like, tennis elbow or an infection? But hey, least its warming up over there. Soon as you get through the pollen, might even have some warm days, eh?

I think I bumped it into something at work, because it feels like the pain and the swelling came out of nowhere. The pain is practically gone now, though. One of those situations when it happens so often that you eventually stop paying attention or don't bother remembering it, y'know?

Oh I got a wet palette recently, they're so good!!

Yeah I am. It's much easier and cheaper to just get junk off ebay and make your own stuff with them.
Mind you technically it means that no-one would ever want your stuff if you do sell them on, plus you gotta wait for the big lots where you can get enough to make whole figures out of them.
Plus you're kinda limited on the things you can make as most people are selling what amounts to really junk stuff for way too much. I mean 2/3rds of the actual models price for a few pieces because for some reason a few people are desperate for certain parts.

EDIT: This is the kind of stuff I'd like to do but no-one is getting rid of enough stuff in decent quantities for decent prices and I am not spending hundreds to thousands of pounds to do it by buying original models.

Tried to make a wet palette from scratch for myself, but it hasn't really worked out too well. I should try again, this last year I've been making a lot more stuff hobby-wise. Right now I'm finishing a pirate-themed book nook to gift a friend, and last month I've done a bunch of custom stands for my Godzilla figurines that I'm really happy with.

One very large sponge, thin or thick it doesn't matter too much but I'd say the thickness of one finger is best, and some baking paper. Not grease-proof paper, not baking parchment, baking paper. Does the same thing the wet palettes do. Make sure the edges of the paper fit inwards from the edge of the sponge by about 3-5cm to make sure the edges don't curl up.

Ayup. Every day is a mystery as to what body hurts and in what way. But hey, you're about healed at least. Get it checked out for a hairline fracture or whatever, those can be timebombs.

TTTX wrote:I can't eat medicine so no and I don't have an official diagnose that I have pollen allergy.

Probably don't need one. I'm not allergic, but during the worst of the pollen season, sometimes I'll kick up a lot of it while working outside and it does make my nose run real bad for a few minutes. Last year, was in some mulch, was sneezing and dribbling like a child until I cleared it out.

Ah, the creative sort. Yeah, I stick to instructions. Improvisation scares and confuses me. Though some of the best pieces I've seen are custom jobs, so I suppose practicing it early will serve you better later, knowing how to rig pieces together and green stuff it. I don't fret too much about the price, because I follow the simple rule of "Games Workshop is too bloody expensive, I'm going to buy cheap Reaper minis because those won't hurt my heart when I botch it." Never fails.

yeah, that's how I have feel normally, but this time it was really bad, my stomach have been pretty bad which isn't something I'm use to, maybe I'm just getting old.

That definitely doesn't help. Can't imagine what my 60s are going to feel like at this rate. Over the counter antihistamines don't work though?

Don't normally watch xQc, or streamers in general, but seeing clips of him failing to roleplay in a serious GTA5 roleplaying server is comedy gold. He tries just enough to get really mad when it all goes tits up. It helps that the cops are a casebook study of the Stanford Prison experiment in action (Yes I know it was debunked).

Ouch. Feel better soon.

I've only gotten food poisoning once in my life, and that's an experience I do not care to ever go through again.

Spring has sprung over here; everything is saturated in pollen. I miss the days when I didn't have pollen allergies. Usually its mild enough that I can power through it with no problems but this year the pollen is killing me.

I don't take medicine, as I throw up on the mere thought of taking such stuff, it's a pain I live with so ehh I'll probably never will, unless my life is in danger, even then it will still be a challenge to take.

Yeah Reaper do good stuff but IIRC it's a lot of resin and not injection moulded plastic so it's harder to work with if not doing the normal route.

Apparently online courses now offer a B.S. in Computer Science, which was what I went to school for. Didn't get to finish, as we all know.

I would've thought the tuition would be, you know, fairly reasonable, given the overhead is shifted to a much easier to implement and maintain infrastructure, and the professor doesn't have to deal with paper or physically moving from his computer.

This is incorrect.

A shame. Pretty sure my 3 years of earned credits are due to expire soon too.

RE8 seems like the most "safe" game they could possibly make. The first-person arrangement of RE7, RE4's trappings and story, and a giant sexy lady with sexy fempire daughters.

I'm tentatively excited for it. Overly complicated mansions filled with stupid traps and puzzles speaks to something in me.

No idea what the werewolf men are about.

I finished Ghost of Tsushima and my original opinion maintains. It's the best Assassin's Creed game I've played but that's about the best to expect of it. It has mostly enjoyable combat but it's super redundant. The characters are mostly archetypal and flat. The best thing it has going for it is aesthetics and the fact the setting is interesting. Vanilla feudal Japan is actually not done as much as people think. Not without fantasy elements. I did appreciate that. Being able to run around in ridiculous samurai armor and such was novel.

It also inspired me to go off and watch Yojimbo, which is only the second Kurosawa film I've seen, the other being Seven Samurai. While Seven Samurai is probably better in most senses I actually enjoyed Yojimbo much more. I also picked up a copy of the Kojiki which I'm going to try to read at some point. The apparent best English translation is out of print and now sells for like $250 a pop and the newest English translation translates the names of the all the kami and you have to look them up in the glossary to find their Japanese names, which is super annoying.

I always thought Japan was interesting but not really more than any other place. I just liked history. But I appear to have caught the weeb bug to some degree in the last year or so.

Southern New Hampshire University is apparently one of the better places that offers the B.S. in Comp-Sci online. Applied, having my transcript sent over. Couldn't hurt to see what they'd count towards a degree. Without the constraint of needing to be physically there, could always plug away a course at a time, as money allows. $1k per course + extras per semester isn't untenable.

On the flip side, if very few of my earned credits count, then fuck it. Spending $30k+ over a decade would be a hard sell.

Re: Jappohongo no speako - It really would be nice if every translator had a list of golden rules to follow, and near the top was, "Proper nouns, in so much as is reasonable, shall not be translated."

The real bitch is when you need to decipher a katakana (loan word), because there is absolutely no consistency or way to deduce origin of the term. You have to say it aloud, in a Japanese accent, and hope context triggers something in your head.

And because I haven't done one in a while.

~*Vol's Japanese Lesson of the Week*~

火花 - ひばな - hibana - "fire" + " flower" - spark
花火 - はなび - hanabi - "flower" + "fire" - firework

I like to think the etymology is an ancient Japanese scribe seeing a firework go off for the first time, and becoming very irritated about it.

When it comes to Japanese I only really know a few recurring phrases thanks to anime, and a lot of names of animals and mythical creatures, because I've ready/still read a bunch of stuff about their folkore. I like reading about myths and legends in general, and Japan has such a crazy big variety when it comes to that that it is really amusing to get through.

I hop on duolingo from time to time for Japanese and just started German.

The first 4 Hiragana lessons were okay, then it came to greetings and Katakana and the difficulty SPIKED and it made me stop for a little bit.

Also I still feel basically like a parrot as I am just saying the sounds with little impact as I literally have no idea what the actual letters are other than Ku because it looks like a < and shi because it looks like a J spun around.

Comically enough, I cannot remember proper nouns to save my life. So I know far more kanji and grammatical rules then I can actually speak or read.

Words of wisdom someone once told me (The world is gonna roll me): "Don't try to use anything but polite, academic phrases, you fucking idiot."

So "Ohayou/konnichi-wa/konban-wa" works just fine.

But yeah, katakana is the hardest by far. Translators trying to decipher "Bartholomew Kuma" in One Piece comes to mind, or "Donquixote Doflamingo."

Way I was taught was to literally sear the hiragana into my head by writing it down, over and over and over, until it was stuck.
