"While relatively rare, the ancient nature of the Dragon siblings means their many own progeny now exist within Grand Cathay. They often rise to positions of power, not least out of respect for their heritage, but also due to the power that comes from being a part of the family. The Dragon-blooded, as they are known, are inevitably skilled combatants, natural sorcerers, and talented leaders. As you can imagine, their lineage can be a source of some jealousy and resentment from high-ranking mortals, especially when the Dragon-blooded allow their abilities to develop into arrogance."

Going into the Border Prince region in TW2 has always been a headache for me. Not once have I rolled in and been able to _do_ much of anything there, because there's either a massive bloc I'm at war with, or a bunch of small factions that held on, or some other nonsense that retards progression. It's a _cursed region_.
Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
Got my copy of Metroid Dread. (I was unable to acquire the special edition much to my vexation. I really wanted that art book for my collection... but I'm sure the whole thing will be up online somewhere before the weekend is over if it hasn't already so its not a terrible loss.) I've only had a chance to play a little so far, but hot damn, am I enjoying myself immensely! I'll worry about doing a speed-run later; for now I'm gonna take my time with this, savor it slowly, relish all its details. Might aim for 100% item collection and map exploration, might save that for my second playthough, don't know yet. Regardless, I'll post my full thoughts once I complete it. But suffice to say, so far, the wait has been worth it.

They are normally massively in the way and don't do much on diplomatic treaties, unless the Ordertide has been well and truly established. However, they often get mostly rolled up by Orcs or Skaven, so free territory to grab, I I want it.
Currently still on other games (Mechwarrior 5, a tentative second much more leisurely run for Wrath of the Righteous), but I really need to get back to this game. However, currently more of a hankering for a Stellaris game before that.

It's a shame, because it's a cool region lore-wise, and should be a series of strategic hard points or something, not a place to ignore or gobble up as fast as possible.
Reading through that full Cathay roster, seems really neat, other factors aside.
-Zhao Ming is clearly the best LL.
-Yin will be the best lore of magic, since any range heavy army with the ability to summon infantry is at a massive advantage.
-YARI ASHIGARU! Heh. The description doesn't imply spear wall formation like I'd hope, but if it's back, these are my _boys_.
-Reads like unit caps will be included, which is generally a good thing.
-Expendable chaff has almost never been a factor in battles I've fought, other than early game skaven.
-Short range shotguns, ala VampCoast hand cannons, is potentially extremely strong, depending on how well they can hold. In non-endgame armies, I made great use of those little dudes for blowing up the monster spam of high/dark elves that insisted on dropping monsters in my backlines, but their strength came from not being able to rout and easily replaceable.
-Heavy duty Darkshards, be still my beating heart.
-Cav, hope they make them useful past tier 2.
-Terracotta sounds more like an anti-large, despite that cinematic implying anti-infantry. Either is useful if the Cathay lines are fairly weak until late game.
-Slow, but heavily armed, ranged flying units. Interesting idea. Given that will require minimal micro, and excellent positioning, which will tie into the armies in general needing to be set into specific formations to maximize Yin/Yang boosts, these guys sound like potential terrors if not sniped or bogged into melee.
-Cannon/rockets/compass artillery is always worth its cost, up to a point of being unable to kill enough before being overrun, so gameplay will tell.
-Shielded sniper unit. _Sounds_ extremely powerful, just like Jezzails, but given everything else, the need to kill before the line breaks, needing to balance Yin/Yang, and casters apparently being the true anchors, imagine these guys will be naturally limited unless you build an Ikit Claw style WW1 stack.

Jezzails felt massively overpowered when I was playing Ikkit, so I imagine, too, that these units will be S-tier. However, currently I am not even really reviewing the roster, it feels as if the game is still way too far away.
To be honest, I don't even know if I'll play it before they release the Immortal Empires DLC.

The Pandemic made the last year and a half go really slowly so that might have "helped"?

Cheers, mate! Probably. Weirdly enough, being busy makes it all blur together, but when there's nothing to do but faff, the days become more distinct somehow.

Hm. So the sieges are retaining the single (though more angled) main wall, but now with elevation, barricades, and such. That's a really good improvement. Sort of like a mix of a little of Shogun 2 and quite a bit of Attila, which both had better sieges. The larger maps should also help a lot. There are quite a few siege maps that are outright hostile to defend, because the city architecture and chokes are so poorly arranged that you can't actually support the wall fight much at all, or hold the town center without being rained upon and flanked. This could also make the Vamp Counts so much stronger on defense, being able to have towers firing while the enemies _have_ to chew through chaff in allies. Can actually win the fights through attrition.
Only thing I wonder now is why you would _ever_ try to hold the walls. At best, keep my worst unit up front to keep the towers firing as long as possible, then let them deal with layered defenses down streets.
Though the biggest deal here is that _small settlements are back from Atilla, yeeeeeeeah_! I loved those. Pulled off some obscene, 30:1 victories as the Romans in that game. But not having to fight, often terrible, field battles for a town is great alone. That one's great.

Well, I imagine a lot of people will be still salty that we don't get fully rotateable cities which you can attack from all sides, but then again how exactly do you do that for dwarf fortresses built into a mountain? ^^ I am pretty optimistic about this revamp, although I'll be honest, I often use Sisters of Avelorne spam and therefore sieges are kinda not my thing, anyway. I guess that's one way of varying up your army composition a bit.

Gonna try something I've never done before this weekend. Namely go hunt squirrels and rabbits with an air rifle. Air rifles were made legal to hunt with here last year and it's one of the cheapest-ass ways to hunt. An air rifle that shoots pellets at legal FPS for small game is only like $90. I've sort of waffled about doing it because most public use land near Houston is either exclusively waterfowl or else full of deer hunters and stumbling upon some blind is a good way to get accidentally shot by one or really piss some off at the bare minimum. But I found a small place not that far away that is about 90 acres and is exclusively for squirrel and rabbit hunting. I'm betting there is a good chance nobody else will even bother with rodent hunting and I may have the place to myself.

You know, in all the time I played Med 2, Shogun 2 (a lot), being able to attack or be attack from 360 degrees really never improved the fights. If I had the forces to be able to afford to split them along multiple attacks, then my forces are already so much stronger than the defenders that I might as well concentrate on the breach. The lone exceptions are when I'd recruit ninjas to sneak cap castles, just for the fun of it, or night goblin shenanigans to abuse the AI.
In my last dozen campaigns, siege attacks were my greatest victories, because I could destroy full garrisons + garrisoned army with my average stack with minimal damage from ranged + artillery + magic +heroes. It is clearly not how they should function. And then siege defense was largely a matter of trying to make the AI suffer as much as possible in the attempt, which generally meant I'd only ever lose one settlement in an incursion. So I'm quite optimistic on this, if for no other reason than _space_ and _elevation_.

What is an air rifle and why are they available on Amazon and yet capable of killing small game? Regardless, sounds like a fun time. You use the carcasses for anything, or general pest control?
You know, at least it's a halfway point. Kinda.

Vol wrote:What is an air rifle and why are they available on Amazon and yet capable of killing small game? Regardless, sounds like a fun time. You use the carcasses for anything, or general pest control?
It's just a gun that uses pressurized air to propel the bullet instead of standard powder reaction. Think like an old school Red Ryder BB gun but that shoots larger pellets or bullets at velocity high enough to actually kill things. They are quieter, have less recoil, and you can buy pellets for dirt cheap. There are air guns powerful enough to kill deer and large game, but the smaller ones are chill enough that apparently you don't even need a certificate to hunt with them in Britain. Half the videos of air gun hunting I found were made by Brits for some reason so I looked it up. Apparently this is popular there. It's pretty much impossible to kill a human with one of these (unless maybe you shot them in the eye from like 10 feet away or something) so they aren't regulated really. As for the carcasses, you eat them though I don't do anything with the hides if that's what you mean. Some people even eat fried squirrel brains, believe it or not. Specifically you tend to fry squirrel and eat it with gravy. They are also good in stew. Rabbits pretty much the same.

I prefer field battles, however I've long learned that even with Sisters spam I can win a attacking siege with just three boltthrowers and some lords and heroes. ^^ As for defensive battles, I've held out quite a few times surprisingly well with just the standard armies you get. Elevations and more space can only help this. Let's hope CA can adjust the AI to be less dumb.
