Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
That feeling I get when someone follows my FanFiction account and favorites a story... I can't duplicate it anywhere else. I never thought any of my art was appreciated, but then a notification from FanFiction comes in and I'm amazed that someone likes my work. All the deep emotions I put into those stories come rushing back. I forget at times that I wrote at all. I never thought after all these years that people would still find them and like them.
Damn, that was nine years ago that I discovered Mass Effect FanFictions. Stories by Nuclear Buddha, Lavidity Jones, Calinstel, all names that drew me to this community in the first place. I wanted to read everything they wrote, every opinion they had, see what I saw in the games through their eyes.
Did anyone else find this community because of the fanfiction stories?

I didn't. I bought ME2 and saw they had some online forums and since I was such a big fan back I joined and eventually found the tali thread and been around ever since.
first time I have ever join an online anything, before that I just used the internet to play flash games and use it to research stuff, which is quiet the achievement considering that I am not the most social person.

I joined StarFox Online back in 2008 so I could post a fan script I wrote, but was never part of the community there. I was an active FireflyFan.net browser, but I never posted anything or even attempted to write or respond to anyone until I joined the Bioware forums a decade later. This is really the only place I've ever participated with others online. I think I used the AOL chatroom once when I was a teen. That's my history of being online.

I was never really into fanfiction--with the exception of Metroid--prior to me becoming aware of Mass Effect.
I found the BioWare forums looking for good quality screenshots of ME2, which eventually took me to the main Mass Effect thread, then to the character specific threads, then the Tali thread, and then to this community. Along the way I saw numerous folks posting little amusing mini-fics (To this day I still distinctly remember one that had the the Grand Galactic Inquisitor from the Venture Bros meeting Shep and crew. "IGNORE ME!"
Don't partake as much as I used to back in the day, of course, but I still pop in every once in awhile, see if what's new is anything good or interesting or to revisit an old favorite, if they're still up.

I think that I found the forums because I was redeeming a code for one of the various items in ME2 (something something Cerberus Network) and wanted to check out what other things there were on the site and then I found my little comfortable corner and then I just stuck around with all the forum hopping until I eventually ended up here. That was twelve years ago now. I haven't been nearly as engaged in discussions about a game series since. Probably because I realized how exhausting it can be in more ways than one. That and I have a touch more responsibilities to spend my time on now.

Never had the courage to post anything I wrote in a public space. Granted, I've never written anything of length that wasn't smut either. But it's good that someone stumbles onto your old work, and gives you a little bit of happiness in exchange.
I think so. I was lurking the original Bioware forums, circa ME1, when the first Tali threads popped up. Think FSDXRage was around then too. But I also read a lot of fanfiction, since then that was likely the best we could hope for, and a few good authors had made some nice, multi-chapter stories. Always was partial to "ME1 but Tali romance." Then with ME2, got more into it all along with the explosion of fan creations (look at how little there was before ME2), found the Tali threads. Wasn't socializing at all then, so dipped my toes when I saw the passion and creativity being generated non-stop there, then when the first exile occurred, and Collider made the group, dipped my toes deeper. Then 10+ years went by, and we have our tiny band, a daily source of consistency, and a living link to some very happy memories.

Haven't had the heart to since ME3. Though it took some time for my heart to fully cool. Should probably do that sometime, go reread the old epics, my favorite one shots, and see if I'm too snooty to appreciate what I used to adore, heh.

I straight up haven't found a game series I've cared about as much since. I'd love for that to be the case, but the perfect combination of youth, the game itself, and other factors, all lined up in a way I suspect only occurs once in a lifetime.

Well. Yeah. It was my understanding that in an _actual_, serious Necron fight, there is no possible win condition.

Pretty much. The Imperium had a fighting chance in that warzone previously given their superior numbers there; the arrival of the Silent King made that utterly impossible. The dude's on another level. And his dynasty is huuuuge.
Necrons are legit scary in the lore. (even more so in the old lore before the Tomb Kings in Space change) Ciaphas Cain considers the Necrons to be the most terrifying and overwhelming enemy he's ever encountered, and this is from a guy who's willingly engaged in combat with Tyranid Tyrants during a Hive Fleet invasion, Ork Warbosses, Chaos Space Marines, Dark Eldar raiders, Eldar Banshees, and a Daemon Princess who's tried to murderfuck him 3 times and counting.
The Word Bearers trilogy features a Necron Lord known as the Undying One, and even the most hardcore, daemon summoning, Chaos worshipping Word Bearers piss their pants in fear encountering him, spending a whole book running from him, and when they have no choice but to fight back, they suffer enormous casualties and only live by the skin of their teeth.
Damnos was only saved the first time because the Tomb World was prevented from fully waking up and a shit ton of Exterminatus; the second time only because a C'tan shard broke free and decimated the Necron forces.
Imotekh the Stormlord has only ever lost 2 battles against the Imperium amongst his many, many engagements with them. And one of those is because he was in the middle of a battle at the time against another Necron force and got blindsided.

I still have your story about the Asari that likes really hot showers somewhere on my google drive
or at least starred on it.

Nah found this community (back when it was 2 forums, many groups and a split or two ago) basically through joining just to chat.
But as for fanfiction, used to write smut RP stuff.
Probably al deleted now, probably for the best as it's best to only look back so much.
I do have ideas for other stories but they're really half-baked.

I read the Cain story about that, but I can't recall his specific reasoning. As much as I love Dark Crusade/Soulstorm, I think they were so influential in fan perception that it's not as appreciated the only way the Imperium beats Necrons is by preventing it from becoming a proper battle, ever, otherwise they're dumping an army group into holding the line at best.
Though maybe a joint force of Custodes and Mechanius could pull off something, with their ancient, super archeotech and general higher level of knowledge.

That rings some vague bells. Can you remind me what it was about? When I was transferring files to this PC's SSDs, I found multiple stories I had literally no memory of writing, but were clearly in my prose.

I hear that. Plenty of ideas, but I'm awful at forcing myself to work. Need to get an Adderall prescription somehow, from a shady online pharmacy. Have a friend who has a legit prescription, says that if you start working on something, then take it, you'll be laser-focused for the full duration, which is exactly what I need.

I've been sitting on a story for a long while now. Elementary school aged Tali having to spend the after school hours one day in her dad's office where she wants to watch what is essentially Quarian Star Trek. I get to explore their father/daughter dynamic. Also I get to write an entire episode of star trek that they comment on. I'm always excited about it when I think about it.

Workin' for the weekend. Almost there, then a bag of tacos, several cocktails, and a peaceful Friday night playing video games. It's not much, but it's mine. Then I need to spend Saturday doing some writing, finishing a story I promised someone like a year ago, heh.
That's adorable! A different side of the coin from The Voyage of the Paus. Lucky to have a passion project in the back pocket, even if you have to sit on it a while.
