Skull Island is like a 6/10 show, and that's me being very generous and forgiving.
Most of the human characters are annoying, and there's way too many jokes and quips which destroys meaningful emotion when characters are faced with mortal peril or lost loved ones.
Pacing starts strong, then plummets, then picks back up again at the very end.
Ends with several plot threads unresolved on purpose, setting up a second season.
Animation can be janky in places, but in other scenes is very good.
The show does have its moments, but its a slog to get to them.
Sometimes the show feels like it's aiming for younger viewers, but then will switch tracks fast and have people get killed in brutal ways, so there's some tonal whiplash.
Kong is a distant afterthought for most of the show except for the last 2 episodes. Limited screen time for big cgi monsters in movies can be understandable given the massive costs involved, but in animation you're not bound by that limitation. You can have Kong be a character and give him a story arc and feature him as much as you want. Feels like a huge missed opportunity.
The show seems to forget Skull Island is surrounded by a perpetual storm system.

-show takes place around 1993, on a different side of the island
-there's an island 20 miles away or so from Skull Island that also has monstrous creatures on it
-Kong has an ancient temple he chills out in when he's resting
-Kong befriended a young woman from some Spanish sailors that shipwrecked on the island some time before this show starts but after the events of the Skull Island movie set in the 1973, but she and her village were killed by a Titan called Kraken who wants to challenge Kong for the position of Alpha of Skull Island; it knows that fighting Kong on land would be disadvantageous, so it tires to goad Kong by doing a lot of dickish things like throwing whales inland, taunting him, preventing anyone from leaving or entering the island, or hurting those he protects; Kong on the other hand knows fighting Kraken in the water would be disadvantageous for him, so they are locked in a impasse
-Kong gets lured to the beach when the main human characters steal a treasure Kong values, angering him greatly (because it reminds him of his old Spanish friend and he wants it back) and the Kraken takes this opportunity to seize the throne
-Kraken puts up a good fight, but in the end Kong's savagery and cunning prevail; when Kraken refuses to accept defeat and keeps attacking, Kong rips it in half
-Kong befriends and trains a giant bird to help him in his kingly duties to protect the island from predators that would disrupt the balance, and to fetch him food when he doesn't feel like hunting himself
