Group Projects, Combined Efforts, what have you...
This thread is where you can post projects you want to complete or pitch where we can combine our talents and abilities. We have a lot of very creative people here with many different abilities across various fields. We have writers, animators, graphic artists, musicians, sound designers, etc. If you always wanted to make a project, be it a movie or some idea that combines different media, let this be a place where you can go to. Some of us may have an idea we've been hanging on for some years, but never thought it would see the light of day. Perhaps here we can give it a little life, or at least start the ball rolling. Let's strive to be better artists, let's take a chance at making something awesome. Maybe something happens here that starts a career or fulfills a goal or dream. But it has to have a beginning.
Rules?
1) Let's start by introducing yourself and listing what abilities you have. What can you do?
2) Add to that an ability you've always wanted to try or are willing to learn.
3) If you have an idea, post it.
4) If you have an idea for a project and you find someone that can help you with a project then you are the project leader. It's up to you do communicate what you want done and come up with a reasonable time frame so both parties are able to complete their parts in a reasonable manner. Let's strive for cooperation.
5) Let's keep projects ideas that involve 3 or more individuals to 5 mins or less, final product. It's not absolute, but in my experience having multiple small projects to show is better than one massive one. In the end, it's up to the PL.
6) If no one wants to assume a leadership role on a project, I will volunteer to be project leader. Just communicate with me what you want and I'll do my best for you.
7) When a project gets finished, let's all chip in to share it among the internet.
8) Got an unpopular idea? That's okay. Strive to have your ideas able to evolve and adapt. Ask for advice here or other people's input. Again, let's strive for cooperation.
I will add everyone's introduction to this original post so it's in one spot. Let's make something awesome.
I'm SciFlyBoy
I'm a composer. I write underscore and dramatic music and combine that with visual media.
I'm able to record and mix sound/audio/dialogue
I have a sound effects library and do sound design/editing.
By adding the audio to the visual it usually makes me the final person on a project as I can make a final product.
I'm willing to learn to edit video, I only have Windows Movie Maker though. I can write a script and I'm willing to try my hand at directing.

Well, I'm Vol, your doting admin.
I can code, with enough depth to pick up on new languages and concepts relatively easily, though I'm somewhat out of practice. A general technical background too, of course.
I can design systems, video games or others, though I'm biased towards the former. I have little art skill, but enough background to understand theory and have strong visions for how designs should be.
So being in the company of numerous artists and a skilled composer neatly rounds out what I can't do myself.
Currently I'm still dealing with what I hope are the last jobs of the painting season, which traditionally ends for the most part when the cold comes. Then I should have far more free time to be productive and creative, and I have ideas aplenty.

I am Theodoric of Friede.
I have some experience with writing and game design, and am taking classes to learn programming, though i'm at an incredibly remedial level.
I also have some experience with editing video.
I have done amateur voice acting for various projects.
Mostly Im a side person on any project, but interested in helping in any way i can.
I am willing to learn programming, and would like the chance to do some VO again.

Darkstorm, here.
I suppose my strongest suit is writing and more specifically characters and worlds. Since I been playing D&D and been making characters I have grown to love and nurture with my fingers, in turn which caused me to craft my own world with my fingers as well.
Other than that, I have novice skill in drawing, CAD, Milkshape (I believe that is what is was called), and I also was doing work for a mod for Enemy Territory basically making a shotgun in 3D and animating it in milkshape (never finished cause mod never came to be). I have also messed around in Fruityloops and made my own music but I haven't done that in awhile either.
As to what I want to learn...Depends I guess I did like making music in Fruityloops but I never got hooked into wanting to do more. I liked animating aspect when I was making the shotgun but it was tedious so I don't know if I would stick with it. I guess those would be my two choices as those seem to be the only two I seemed fairly quick to do without too much problems. I also have used adobe and sai for coloring and altering images among some other stuff.

Alienmorph here too.
Well, I'm first and foremost a 2D artist: I mostly work in digital, although I have experienced most of the traditional painting techniques as well. I have a prediliction for comics and illustration, and I do both safe and not-safe-for-work material. In the past (pretty much years ago at this point) I was good at pixel-art as well. I'm also a good digital colorist and I can write decently too, but being slightly dixlessic I do aloooot of typos...
Things I want to learn, well, an artist's journey never ends, so to speak. My biggest wish is to keep getting better and better at what I do.

Mazder, reporting.
Well, what can I do?
If I am going to go by what am I technically qualified for I have a Bachelors (BaHons) degree in Computer Games Design and a degree in Art and Design. I have many A levels of varying degrees but mostly they were used to get the degrees.
Outside of qualifications I have an interest in 2D art, using mainly photoshop for digital colouring, but I am stronger in drawing on paper. I have a decent knowledge of 3D modelling and a little experience in rigging a model, but I need to refresh myself and learn more in that. I have done some physical sculpture work and I am apparently very well suited to making something from scrap, I just have little opportunity to do so.
And apparently I can do some voices a bit. Nothing amazing by my judgement but one or two have commented on it.
I have often thought about what I wish to learn and other than fully upgrading my current skills I'd quite like to one day learn blacksmithing and maybe even electronics, but, again, no opportunity to do so. I have thought about doing some videos on youtube in the past but finding an thing I could do all on my own AND being entertaining with my not many opportunities is not a great path for that. If an opportunity presents itself then I might pick it up but it's not likely.
My current projects include;
-Modelling, rigging, skinning and animating my own quarian model.
-Maybe creating my own weapons and modding them into a game, possibly something easy to mod, like Fallout 4.
-More art.
But these are all personal projects. I am not even sure what I'd do in a group.
In a group I am usually an ideas guy and the jack of all trades art-wise.
Main problems is a lack of creative drive and terrible creative energy, and not being the best I can be due to lack of practice because of those first problems.

Re: Group Projects, Combined Efforts, what have you...
Hello, I'm Spartanburger and I'm an alcoholic
1) Skills and abilities:
Audio & Music:
I've been toying around with making music for a while now. I can do a somewhat good job at mixing and composing songs. I have a number of projects in the works which are progressing slowly, but I have time planned out soon for me to learn new things and be able to do more stuff with sound. My work is primarily in the area of synthesizers; recorded sound is a no for me as of yet.
Reference material: Soundcloud/Tumblr/Clyp.it
Video:
I manage a number of YouTube channels, and have moderate editing skills in Premiere. Though I'm still relatively new, I'm also learning more stuff in After Effects for some interesting post-FX. I am rather good at capturing video game footage, and have a huge backlog of footage I need to edit down.
Editing reference: TheSpartanburger
Video Game captures: FrapsDump
After Effects + music: Concordia
Animation 3D posing and art:
I'm a terrible animator. Most of what I've done in the past is not original animation and is more applying pre-existing animations onto certain 3D models and using them (A/B). What I can do, however, is create art in Source Filmmaker with existing models and edit them in Photoshop or After Effects for post processing. I've also gotten rather good at editing textures in order to turn an existing model into an original character. I've done this for both my own characters and for the characters of others. I can not create my own textures from scratch for the time being.
Misc:
I'm a pretty shitty actor, but I am participating in a future episode of Manufactured Alliances, playing a minor side character. I also played an Elevator, once.
I'm an Accountant, so hmu if you ever need an excel spreadsheet.
I'm usually pretty good at providing constructive feedback.
Listen. I can shitpost like nobody's business.
Editing. Though perhaps not the best writer, I'm somewhat good at editing for grammar and formatting. No you should not look at my post history for proof of this.
Lorebuilding is fun, but I'm not great at collaborating on it, plus I've only ever had one or two actual projects in that regard.
2) Learning stuff.
Music and synthesizer theory. I've always wanted to learn about how different technical aspects of music work together to create the sound stuffs. And if I can learn how synths work, I will be able to utilize synthesizer tools to a much greater extent for music and audio.
Modeling. Though actually modeling something from scratch has no interest to me, I am interested in learning about model editing and porting for Source engine. Art in SFM is limited to what models you have available, so being able to port new models myself would be an amazing tool. I actually plan on learning this over winter break, starting with porting models from the game Eve Online. I'm already moderately successful at it. I just need to figure out the rigging and getting the material properties right. If this works, ships from Elite: Dangerous, and some Mass Effect models will be next. Might be useful once ME:A comes around, too.
Minor polygon editing for models is also something I'm interested in. I'd like to be able to take some exiting models and edit them slightly for greater effect, like modifying a Quarian mask or something like that. That's more long-term stuff, though.
Comic book formatting. I want to learn this for some projects of mine.
Mapping. Similar to modeling above, one of the biggest limitations for SFM artists is a lack of maps, forcing many users to "scenebuild" a map out of props, which is a long process which is rather annoying. If I can create some neato maps, it'd make creating certain art pieces and certain projects much easier.
3) Ideas.
Heh, I have plenty of ideas, but many of them are not ready to be shared.
For the foreseeable future, it's best to not rely on me for any significant part of a project. My schedule, though somewhat free in early January, will tighten up very quickly, and the amount of free time I would have to work on anything could vanish without warning. Nonetheless, if you need me for a project, the best way to contact me is skype, a PM here, or Discord.

Re: Group Projects, Combined Efforts, what have you...
So it's been brought up that it would be interesting to have a Katawa Shoujo like game, but with monster girls. I'm not saying this is something that must be done, but how about we open up to taking about what kind of characters you'd like to see in that type of story if you were to play one, to keep the idea going.
What kind of monster girls would you want to go to school with? Maybe what kind of relationships would you want to have with them?
Here are some discussions from the Tali thread

There is no beginning or end...
All of the mons!
If you think you've added too many mons, you haven't added too many mons.

Let's make it REALLY interesting! Normal girls with actually some likeable personality that can also transform into sexy and badass mon-girls! The best of both worlds!
SciFlyBoy wrote:What types of personalities could we start with?
There's the gawky, sporty/athletic type with no sense of humor: C student who isn't too smart, but wants to be really nice and always bakes cupcakes for everyone: The stutter girl who just wants to play saxophone and voluntarily wears a uniform to school: OCD dance girl who makes her own clothes and is trying to quit smoking.
What other personalities are out there?
TheodoricFriede wrote:SciFlyBoy wrote:What other personalities are out there?
Obviously you have the super weird Lovecraftian ones that are only barely humanoid, and are fascinated with humanity in the same way an entomologist is fascinated by ants.
TheodoricFriede wrote:SciFlyBoy wrote:Tame? On a scale from 1 to 10, where 1 is lamely tame and 10 is insane, where would you (the royal you) be comfortable with the most intense character? Does that statement make sense?
Probably a 5. Thats fine.
I guess what in trying to get across is that in this hypothetical game, i think it would be interesting to have a range of character from the perky happy type of stuff alien was talking about, (where the fact that these are "monsters" is basically irrelevant) all the way to creatures that are so beyond what is normal that they are only barely understandable. Something otherworldly that warps reality.
Something that you encounter when it oozes out of the shadows of a place long forgotten before taking form to interact with lesser beings.
Basically, an actual monster.
SciFlyBoy wrote:I'm just liking this monster girl VN idea. It made my heart skip a beat and I've learned to trust when my physical body tells me something. I'll keep on it in the group projects thread if anyone is interested.
Re: Group Projects, Combined Efforts, what have you...
I think even before you talk characters you probably need to talk about the story and the world in general.
Re: Group Projects, Combined Efforts, what have you...
DarkStorm wrote:I think even before you talk characters you probably need to talk about the story and the world in general.
This.
Monster Mesume hangs around characters but the core of the interactions are based off the repercussions of the lore of the world, the inter-species law and the people enforcing said law.
Follow the 5 W's.
What
Who
Where
When
Why
We have "What".
"Who" is decided later.
So that leaves;
"Where, When and Why."
Some things I'd iron out first would be,
+Where does the story take place?
- Country of origin
- Region in the country
- dialects/language influences
- local influences (such as historical locations, region based slang, etc)
+ When does the story take place?
- If Earth, what time period? If not modern day then show differences in our history. If modern day show the influences made throughout history, if modern and not a lot of history show the social rifts.
- If fantasy, how does the time period affect the story. Does it have a lot, or not a lot, of history.
- How much time has been spent with these species involved.
+ Why is this happening?

Sure, we don't "have" to do anything, but it'd be fun I think!
As for abit of a story, like I was saying, I think a fun one could be a bunch of normal girls that earn the ability to turn into monster-girls, and you could be a common friend that has to help them through they daily routine and to come to terms with their second nature. And eventually you get a shot at nailing one or more of the girls, both in human and monster form. Maybe have some villain or some cursed magical item to be the cause of the transformation and that has to be dealt with as a plot hook. And I would definately think out the human characters first, and then find a monster form that's befitting of each of them.

Re: Group Projects, Combined Efforts, what have you...
I require some creative input.
All characters are abstracted out to consist of 3 faces:
Public face - What you see upfront, when in groups, most common
Private face - What you see in private, once you've established a relationship
True face - What you only see in the most personal moments, once you've established a deep relationship and absolute trust
Picture a small colony in Andromeda, semi-arid, comfortable location, decent people, but not the easiest life. For this thought experiment, the public face of everyone should be centered around their species identity, either affirming or subverting.
Deputy Mayor - Asari on the cusp of matronhood:
Public face - Boring. Dresses in greys and browns, uses concise and specific language, busywork and chiding. Takes pride in not being "like all those other asari." Well respected for her duty and professionalism.
Private face - Overcorrects. Resents the absentee mayor for holding rank over her. Gets too emotional, tries too hard to express herself with art/creations she never shows anyone, garish living quarters. Doesn't abuse substances however, because her public face asserts control in what affects her beyond her personal time.
True face - Conflict between acceptance of her nature, she truly does want to be looser and freer with her feelings and creativity, just like people think of asari, but her awkward age is tugging her two different ways. She doesn't want to lose her status and respect from the others, and the colony hardly needs her acting like a stereotype. And she does enjoy the purpose and clarity of being boring and serious.
Sheriff - Turian man:
Public face - Friendly western movie sheriff. Casual, but with an edge of iron when needed. Keeps things quiet, safe, and clean in his domain. Reacts harshly to outside interference.
Private face - Loathes the job. Was pressed into it, as he was the best shot of the initial founding group, and being turian, they figured he could handle it. Manifests as corruption. Bribery, smuggling, things of the like. Colony ignores it, because it by and large benefits them ultimately, and he doesn't directly screw them over.
True face - Savors the order and peace he brings, despite not wanting to be the one to do it. Chastises himself for his corruption, but knows it's necessary to keep him from quitting and letting the place fall apart.
Any more ideas?

Re: Group Projects, Combined Efforts, what have you...
I now have a due date for a project. It's pretty ambitious, but I want to have it done by 11/7 when the https://www.gamesoundcon.com/ begins. Which means I have 42 days to get a final product out. I'm letting you all know because I could easily shy away and never complete this, but if I tell you all then now I'm accountable and have no reason to not accomplish this. My part is writing the music, what I need help on is a visual to go along with it. It's just one image that changes color throughout the piece. If you're interested reply or message me. It's video game related that ties to one franchise's anniversary that just happened yesterday.
Re: Group Projects, Combined Efforts, what have you...
I assume you need the visual made or do you just need an idea for a visual?

I would help, but I'm in abit of a crunch time period... need to finish stuff for the videogame I've been helping with these past couple years, and I have my usual half-a-dozens of illustrations or so to make for my pervy Patreon account avery month.
Best of luck on your project!

I have an idea for the visual, I just need it made with much needed artistic input from the artist.

Re: Group Projects, Combined Efforts, what have you...
Have any artists here made anything that looks like an H.R. Giger work? Doesn't need to be spot on Giger, but anything similar to it or resembling the three dimensional light and shadow feel of it? Let me know if you need me to clarify.

If only I was back in highschool I'd have reams of HR Geiger inspired works for ya to select from.
I sadly have none now however.
Do you have specific pieces in mind which show what you want exactly?

I found some examples, but here's a description of the image I have in mind.
First of all, my project is "music in anticipation for Halo 6." So I'm writing 20 minutes of music, seven pieces, which showcase how I feel the setting of Halo 6 is going to go. Dark is one feeling. Purely fan work.
The image I want is a full screen Halo 6 logo. The word 'Halo' has always had it's own style and some of the games incorporated the number into the 'O' in Halo, so I was thinking a stylized 6 maybe with the word Halo behind it or maybe without, but it's coming out of a metallic background, kind of like how Giger has his work look like it's coming out of something, if that makes any sense. In the recesses of the metal or in the shadows are lights, which are important because I want them to change color throughout the piece. Seven colors for seven pieces.
These are images I found that I want to base off of.

Re: Group Projects, Combined Efforts, what have you...
Ah, okay, I can understand that a lot better.
I am not sure how to do the glow part of it but the rest of it seems like it would require a little bit of work, but nothing too difficult.
Hmmmm, it'd also depend on just how much detail you'd want in the background.
Are you doing the video editing yourself personally?
Because if you are then a glow map in Adobe After Effects would work well, you'd just need a static image for the piece with a few white glows/lights n to show where the glows in after effects should go and their size.
Sadly I've done nothing like this before.

Not too much detail. I was hoping the 6 would take up 2/3 of the image with maybe a simple Gigerism in the background, two or three dirty pipes worth? (dirty pipes is what I used to describe the fold stuff in the Giger. Is there a name for that?)
About the editing, I was hoping for a "static' image throughout. Until the piece is done I wouldn't know when the lights change color as I hoped they would change per individual piece. I don't have AAE, but would an artist be able to make a video at a certain length and have changes done to a cued time? Like, starts a 0:00, changes to Red at 2:32, Yellow at 5:19, etc?

An artist could make a static of your image and leave "holes" in it with a blank layer mask and underneath could make a few colours to change.
Or you could try a glow mask but that might drown out the image a bit.
When is the deadline for this BTW?

I'd like to have it all wrapped up by Nov 5th.

Ah, okay.
Well if I have time I'll give an example a go but don't hold your breath.

If any of you want a sneak preview of what I'm working on, here's a little something I'll have up for a day. I'll take it down on Wednesday.

Hmph, I'm not going to complete my project on time. With assignments from my new teacher taking up my composing time it'll be a while until I get everything done. But that's okay. These lessons are only going to pave the way for the project to sound better in the end and that's what I want. So if you're working on an image, I appreciate it and you have more time to work on it.

Still up, by the way. I almost wanted to say it gave me a Conan vibe, but that was shortlived. It reminds me of _something_, but I can't recall. But in that vein, url name aside.
