Oh man. Being forced to not eat anything for 12 hours to prep for a blood test and going to work on top of that is not working out so well. Not as bad as that other time I did it and threw up right as I got off the bus, though.
Edit: Aaaand I fell asleep in front of the computer and woke up when it's way too late to do that blood test, since they ship the samples early in the morning and will object to storing anything over the weekend. Have to do it again on Monday. Awesome...

Some XCOM 2 action against the Warlock and the Hunter and a ton of new info on the strategy layer as well as two new mission types. And a ton of Lost to fight.

If you ask me, this seems very familiar to the time when EA bought BioWare. Greedy assholes that have no idea what they're doing trying to cash in on other people's success instead of trying to develop even a smidgen of competence.

Hm. Pretty sure I managed to rip out a filling on one of my molars with a protein bar. Can't get a mirror in to see it clearly, but I see some blackness and it's sore to poke, so it seems likely. That's going to be a problem.

Yeah, definitely get that looked at.

Oh shit, I'd completely forgotten about that.
I might actually do it for shits 'n giggles if I can still find my drafts. They don't seem to be in any of my cloud folders, but I can look through some of my older hard drives over the weekend. (SFF case, so no real room for 3.5" drives. And there wasn't much point in repurposing them as externals, either - which comes in handy now, since that also means all my old stuff is probably still on it.)
Honestly, I can't even remember where I left off... or much of anything else about it, really.
Got 'em.

Man, that stuff is way older than I thought.

If by archive you mean "store in the eternity vault", by which I mean an unlabelled box in the attic alongside a bunch of other old computer parts, hoping it won't harm the hard disks too much. (They were in some used antistatic bags, at least.) Then yeah, I'm great at archiving files!
I thought I also had my first graphics card/3D accelerator in there, and was a bit let down when I couldn't find it. Maybe the spiders needed it to play Quake III.

Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
I have a question. Is there a way to get rid of the addiction to caffeine without going cold turkey and getting a headache so intense that it makes you want to kill yourself?
I've reached a point where caffeine does absolutely nothing for me anymore, except making me dead tired after its effects wears off after an hour or so, but it's a bit difficult to stop drinking things without caffeine because they don't slake my thirst for beverages nearly as well. Which I'd assume to be all in my head.

You can decrease the amount incrementally, or go cold turkey.
Cold turkey is probably the best way. Sorry man, for the next few days you'll be facing the worst headache in your life, unless you've been concussed. That's a pretty bad one as well.

Mobius is right on this one. You'll feel like dog shit for anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. But when it's over you'll be glad for it.

That is exactly what I meant. I believe the only hard drives I don't still have are from my very old DOS computer from when I was a little boy, the completely fucked drive from the Windows 98 machine I inherited after that, and then my first laptop drive which was so mangled that they couldn't even do data recovery on it.
Pretty sure I put the ones I still physically possess in my spare antistatic bags though...probably...

Cold turkey is always fun. Some fun stories there. But with caffeine, yeah, won't kill you or make you crazy, go for it. Though weaning with something with a touch of it, like a diet soda, would help smooth the process, but prolong it. You'll never have your tolerance back to normal though, you can get it similar, but once you teach your body to handle a substance, it never forgets it like a virgin.

Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
@Caffeine withdrawal
I did that a few years ago before making a multi-week overseas trip because I thought the kind of caffeinated drinks I liked would be hard to come by. (Which turned out not to be the case at all). I was miserable for like two days. Splitting headache, shaky hands, blurry vision, the works.
It seems like now I am like more or less immune to caffeine. I can drink a pot of tea and go right to sleep. I don't crash and get tired afterwards. The only notable thing is that I do get headaches if I don't drink it. So I basically have said "fuck it" and just drink tons of mildly sweetened or unsweetened tea so I am not guzzling soda all day. I have not actually read much that caffeine of itself causes really deleterious health problems other than being annoying. It's all the sugar and other shit that caffeinated drinks frequently have in them.

Yeah, I went without caffeine for about two days a few weeks ago and my brain felt like a basketball during the NBL finals whenever I did something as easy as walk down a few steps. Maybe I should do it when I don't have work ahead of me.
The thing that made me suspect the caffeine was honestly a Game Grumps episode where they described the exact things that I think I'm experiencing a lot, like general tiredness. I also remember being able to do things without feeling dead tired, but then I started drinking Pepsi nearly every day as part of my lunch at work and after a while, I couldn't do the things (like video coding in which you type in the postal code you see on scanned letters, for example) I was able to blaze through in the past without falling asleep every time.

Get up, spend 30 minutes on the road to the job site, find out the job today is painting the crown in one little room, then painting out a bathroom that's half-tiled walls. Takes about an hour, but too humid to dry fast so we gotta wait, then 30 minutes back, then killing 2 hours, then 30 minutes back, then finishing the bathroom, then I get my molar patched up. What a queer day.

Do you have a book or a DS play to pass the time?
Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
Yeah, rereading ASoIaF, since we might actually get Winds of Winter in 2018. The prose in the first book, GoT, isn't as good as I remember. But there are lots of subtle touches I can appreciate in hindsight.
Also I completely forgot that white walkers were literally spotted by Eastwatch right at the start.

Which makes their journey make even LESS sense!
Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
How so? The entire story literally starts with the 3 rangers getting wiped out in the forest by white walkers, then a wight. The Night's Watch and Wall barely make sense as a plot device as is, gotta have the actual threat they contain front and center.

Okay so they have a few WW down by eastwatch, right?
Then these WW move east to get to mid-Wall, where they pass up north past the first of the first men, then go back down to Craster's keep to pick up the baby, then go back to then meet the Night's Watch when they eventually get to the fist of the first men, chase them all the way back south down to Craster's again (when Sam kills the WW with the Obsidian dagger), all the while the Wildling army is also on the way and either just before them or in between them and the Night's watch, then they're around Whitetree to catch some of the Wildling army, the rest making it pas the WW by going East/North-East to Hardhome and now the WW are apparently marching on Eastwatch.....again.
The WW are all over the place in the North, it's no wonder they weren't spotted sooner.

That is also the exact same living room from the show, and the exact same lineup from the animated series.
God, that makes me so happy.
Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0

The first WWs are in the forest and kill the 3 rangers tracking the wildings. Then a few months later, they're spotted at Eastwatch. Then however much later, Fist of the First Men. Then Craster's. I don't *think* it's the same exact WWs each time, but the time frame allows it. Though I would suspect that since magic is returning to the world (I really wish Asshai and Stygia would get shown, but they won't, sadly) and a nasty winter is coming, they're everywhere above the wall, but there's simply not enough eyes in enough places to get a clear picture. Though we're supposed to be given a glimpse into the Land of Always Winter at some point!

If it isn't the same group then yeah.
If it is they're still kinda spread out more than you'd expect.
I mean if there were a few by Eastwatch then I'd have tried to sneak past the wall.
Unless they can't swim.

I still need to actually go through that game.
Mind you aren't they basically out of sync right now as they're behind on the update/sequel?

still waiting for the sequel to be announced, but yeah it's out of sync at the moment as at the end of the game the Boltens are still in power and the whole religious thing hasn't happened in Kings Landing.
the time frame is basically, in the game, starts at Red weeding and lasts around the time with the trail with Tyrion.

I always appreciate little details like that. Shows someone put in the time to care and research.
Methinks at least person at NetherRealm Studios was a fan of the show.
