So, I finally finished redoing the texture for one of my Mass Effect characters. The colors and patterns are the same; the only difference is that this texture is 4096x4096 (the highest resolution source engine allows) rather than 1024x1024. I also updated the normal maps from 512x512 to 2048x2048, which took some experimenting to figure out because I didn't realize I had to encode the specular map into the alpha channel of the normal map to get the Phong shading to work properly.

Since I went at the texture on a pixel-by-pixel basis to ensure detail is right, and the paint scratches are all there, this took several months and dozens of continuous hours.

I regret everything and I'm never doing this level of detail ever again.

Well it looks great so the hellish amount of work you underwent payed off. But yeah probably not a good idea to do that again.

I'm a very cyclical person and I find certain times of the year to have more desire doing certain things. Mid Autum is when I get into my fan fiction craze and my wanting desire to dive into some old ME2 retellings. Off the top of my head I remember one where Tali accidentally stabs Shepard on Haestrom and has to deal with the aftermath that followed. Without looking at my saved list on Fan-fiction.net I think I've read three, and Razor's Edge was one of them, but what are some great ME2 retellings out there? Obviously they have to be Tali/Shep romances.

Looking at what I've saved I've found Razor's Edge by Tairis Deamhan, Adamo by Andrio, For we are Many by VenomRed and The Knife and the Turncoat by Mr Vaz. I get them mixed up because I sped through them in a short time, but The Knife and the Turncoat finishes off Finding A Way by Levi Matthews and that was the one where Tali stabs Shepard and probably the first one I read. Only it's not on the website anymore. I googled it and haven't come up with anything yet. When I read the title it brought back a gust of feelings so I desperately want to read it again. Does anyone here know another source?
