Bioware General (Mass Effect/Dragon Age/Other)
Re: Bioware General (Mass Effect/Dragon Age/Other)

"Another exciting installment in the new Mass Effect novel series by Hugo Award-winning author N. K. Jemisin. These new stories, developed in close collaboration with the Bioware game team, weave directly into the action of Mass Effect Andromeda -- and will add to the canonical Mass Effect saga. Lieutenant Cora Harper joined the Systems Alliance to develop and enhance her powerful biotic talents. She was assigned to the asari commando unit Talein's Daughters, where she honed her abilities to become a skilled and deadly huntress. Returning to Earth, Cora finds herself a stranger among other humans, and joins the Andromeda Initiative as Alec Ryder's second-in-command. The mission will send 100,000 colonists on a one-way, 600-year-long journey into the unknown. When essential -- and dangerous -- tech is stolen, Cora is assigned to recover it before it can be used against the Initiative, and end the mission before it can begin."

Ah, I know it's too soon, but every time I see a post, a small glimmer of hope.
At this point, who of the old crew (KOTOR, JE) and the original ME crew are left? I'm surprised the doctors haven't made a reappearance yet, given the RPG resurgence at other companies.

Re: Bioware General (Mass Effect/Dragon Age/Other)
That's great news about the original Xbox games being compatible. I remember playing a Star Wars game (I don't know which one) with my cousin on his Xbox 360, but it couldn't complete the scenery animations because it wasn't fully compatible. And now it is. yay.

Too bad it's Manveer Heir who is now getting accolades.

"Discover the danger lurking aboard the quarian ark in the upcoming novel Mass Effect: Annihilation!"
"Discover the danger aboard the quarian ark in Mass Effect: Annihilation, an upcoming novel from Hugo Award-winning author Catherynne M. Valente. This official tie-in novel chronicles the journey of the Keelah Si’yah as it carries 20,000 drell, elcor, batarian, and quarian colonists to Andromeda. A pathogen is discovered aboard the ark after many drell are found dead in their cryo pods. As the pathogen jumps species, the ship’s systems begin to fail, making it clear this is no accident. Annihilation arrives in US, Canadian, and UK stores on June 26, 2018 (August 28, 2018 in Australia)."

Good thing quarian chirality is Dextro and not Levo and shouldn't be affected by the pathogen. They would make the perfect species to solve this problem.

Depends on what the pathogen is, really. If it's engineered, might be meant to take down any and all. Though quarians would logically be the best shot to survive because of their suits.
Unless they, like the krogan, got special medical treatment during the stasis ride.

remember the virus on Noveria that was designed to kill pretty much everything that lived or the Collector's plaque on Omega?
Stuff like that do exist in the ME universe.

Re: Bioware General (Mass Effect/Dragon Age/Other)
Yey, let's celebrate the 10 years of the series, right after it has been put on ice and the studio has clearly become to fall apart for good. Sigh.
Re: Bioware General (Mass Effect/Dragon Age/Other)
It seems it'll be mostly a retrospect, even if they aim to do a new game quickly, that'd still be a year or two away. Maybe some info from the quarian ark book. Never say never to a surprise announcement, but I'd not bet a dollar on that. A somber N7 Day, keeping the candle lit.
Bioware isn't totally doomed yet. They have the next Dragon Age and Anthem to justify their existence. TOR is slowly withering, but it's all profit now, but that helps too.

Re: Bioware General (Mass Effect/Dragon Age/Other)
Honestly, I kind of expect them to go the way of Visceral... if they keep bleeding out staff and not doing what EA wants, they might just be shut down all of a sudden, and Anthem and DA4 will be finished by some of EA's loyalist studios.
Hope wholeheartedly I'm wrong, but don't be surprised if it's how it goes.

Re: Bioware General (Mass Effect/Dragon Age/Other)
Or, maybe, y'know, just maybe BioWare could swallow their pride, cram their "artistic integrity" up their arse and either ret-con the ending to ME3 or at least pick one of the three (obviously Destroy) as canon, then move on with a true sequel instead of "moving to another galaxy" or "do a prequel". Unless they would terribly fuck up that next game on a mechanical level, it would get everybody back. People would bitch and moan about "their ending" not being the one chosen, but to see what happens next after the Reapers, they would get on with their life and buy the game.
Hell, maybe they even could give Shepard a happy ending and to hell with all the edgelords who would mock that.
In any case, if they want to guarantee a success, giving players a sense of consequence and forward progression would be a defining factor. ME: A shot itself in the face from the start with the metric ton of asspulls they had to include to explain why this expedition even existed in the first place.

Re: Bioware General (Mass Effect/Dragon Age/Other)
I really don't think BW will last lost enough to put another ME games in motion, at this point. Possibly EA will try making a shitty Destiny lookalike set in the First Contact War times after BW is no more, to cash the cow one last time. And that will be it.

Pretty sure Anthem is the destiny clone, considering what we know about it, wall city, armor suits and such.
It screams destiny clone, hell a lot of people call it that when they saw the trailer for it.

Re: Bioware General (Mass Effect/Dragon Age/Other)
It IS the obvious one yes. But we're once again in a moment when "AAA" companies are trying to convince us that pure singleplayer games are dead. So why making only one shitty multiplayer-based persistent world, when you can try to exploit two?
Re: Bioware General (Mass Effect/Dragon Age/Other)
Wow, Jacob got romance art?
Why not give some for Morinth while you're at it.
EDIT: Wow, they gave it to Jacob over Kelly, too. At least you can actually have a relationship with Kelly that doesn't end in racial stereotypes, adultery, and getting another woman knocked up.
I hope that was uncomfortable as hell for the artist.

I'll admit, I'm tempted to buy that N7 t-shirt, but I won't. Seeing them celebrate 10 years just makes me sad these days. Fucking EA...

Well, of course. He's the only black guy you can bang in the original trilogy, even tho he's as stereotypical and useless as it gets. But gotta keep the tokenism going.

Tell me about it. Despite my reservations about ordering clothes online, I just plunked down 200 euros buying one of those replica N7 leather jackets.
Re: Bioware General (Mass Effect/Dragon Age/Other)
200 funbux? Ooph. Cool jacket at least.
@Drag: Quarians have human-like upper body skeletons: Confirmed.
Heh. Sperging out over every bit of lore was fun, dammit. To say nothing of the, ah, creative works.
Anyone wanna give me odds on whenever the franchise is restarted, if they stay in Andromeda or go for prequels/sequels in MW?

Yeah, I'm crossing my fingers that things work out well, i.e. it's the right size, not damaged and overall good quality. It was a hard decision and I almost went back on it at least twice.

Probably MW if I had to hedge a bet
it'd be like "where would they start doing new star wars films, pre-prequels era or post orig-trig?"
As we clearly see they went post orig-trig because in the long run that's where most of the popularity is/was over a longer period of time.

Depends on a lot of factors, like how much influere Casey has, what kind of game they are going to make, when it takes place, how much success Anthem gets and if BW will even be around the next 5 years.
I have no idea what the odds are for going to either galaxy both have weaknesses and strengths to them, Andromeda there is room for growth, but the lore is rather poor, MW is full of lore, but during any game before or during the original trilogy will be small scale (because we already know the outcome of the major conflicts) and pointless if they are RPG (because Reaper war and the ME3 ending so any choice would be rather mute).
Re: Bioware General (Mass Effect/Dragon Age/Other)
Or they could nut up and decide on a canon ending and move on with their lives. The decision to freeze the galactic history at the end of ME3 is just that... a decision. Which could be reversed.
