I'm even somewhat interested in Monster Hunter now. It's both sad and ironic that the lack of microtransactions and a display of what should be common integrity is making me want to applaud people.

Jim Sterling recently put out a video about a mobile Dev doing exactly this and he mentioned it would be soon that "AAA" devs would likely hop onto it too.

And that's why I'm a fan of Jim f-ing Sterling... he gets abit too mixed up with the character he's playing at times (at least I hope that's what's going on) but when it comes be serious about the state of the industry he keeps proving that he really knows what he's talking about.
I'm beginning to think it'd be better if he was proven wrong for once tho. Fucking "AAA" studios!

Yeah the sad thing is that EA and Activision have made microtransactions a real thing now. I cannot stress enough how much money is being made in FIFA points, that thing is like a microtransaction that keeps on giving. Same thing for any game that offers boosts and minor weapon buff. At least I like the way Valve handles their microtransaction in DOTA and CS, just skins to make you character look better. But this kinda stuff....disgusting to say the least. I miss the good old days when I used to look forward to expansion packs, instead now I just cringe when I see a "DLC" or "Expansion Pack".

They are also starting to get really greedy and that will lead to their downfall.

That would be the dream, but sadly that will never be the reality. So long as DLC and "monopoly" points are popular in games. They will still aim to make games around that model. It does not help that most "younger" generation gamers will be used to microtransactions, compared to us "previous" generation gamers who know what actual games used to be.
I saw this happening when WoW got kicked off and Blizzard decided to shit over all the Warcraft lore. Why make single player games that only earn you money in a one off purchase while you can make an online game that people will throw real money at for unmaterialistic objects. What is absolutely worse is how EA still believes how their games from 9 years ago still are worth the full price from back then. Insane expectations, specially so when they base their lack of "single player sales" on everything but the high prices they charge. I can see most EA games going multiplayer only, same goes for the rest of the industry.

Not really, a lot of people love single player even the younger generation so single player will never die, no matter how much EA or others want it to.
If the bigger companies does go multiplayer only well that means the indi games will just take it's place, hell Hellblade pretty proved they can make triple AAA single player experience up there with the best of them and you can get them cheaper.

I wouldn't exactly label Ninja Theory as an indi. Sure independent publisher and developer for their latest game, but they are an established studio. Not saying single player will disappear from the face of the earth, but I see them become the minority in the current gaming landscape. The current thought process is including microtransactions in anything, not much room for that in a single player game.

I think the longest time where I was not suscribed was in Warlords of Draenor, where I hated the story and only got back into it towards the end. I don't think my suscription expired once during Legion. Going back to Vanilla doesn't appeal to me at all, though I hope they change Frost Mages (my main since Vanilla) to not being built around Thermal Void. I'm using Glacial Spike and have fun with that, I hope for something more like that as the main build for BfA.
As for Void Elves, I'll probably race change at least one or two of my four frost mages to that.I hope they get new voiceovers from blood and high elves. ^^
And, yessss, no more legendary RNG bullshit. Now, let's have night elf paladins and I'll be set for the next expansion.
I started a little ways in vanilla, but I want to say before BWL came out. Lost my first account right before BC due to botting on a level 5 rogue for like 20 minutes, couldn't level up a warlock to cap in time to do the Dark Portal event and get the tabard. It has haunted me since. Haven't joined a guild or raided since WotLK (I was one of the offtanks, got my guild through our first kill of Hodir in Ulduar when the main tank went down and I was able to keep it going!), so it's been mostly solo stuff, which isn't quite as fun an experience. Hoping classic and the hardships that comes with it forces community again.
Comically enough, my first 60 was a rogue, but my second was a frost mage. Did the old AOE grinding routine on the Scarlet peasants in the WPL. But since then, I haven't even been able to get back in frost spec. Something about the old, super simple rotation is burned into my head, whereas with other classes, I've changed with the times fine. Could say I'm frozen in my ways.

a lot of companies start small.
the problem with big companies gaming industry turning to multiplayer only is that people still need to play to keep the servers up and such or else no one plays if there is no community. No to mention there would be to much competition eventually there would be to many multiplayers and they take a whole lot more play time to beat so to say and you put pay walls to limit the player progress well people are going to be pissed no matter who you are and they'll have even less play time to play new if there only multiplayer only games out there, which would mean less game sells in total.

Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
Big companies WANT singleplayer to die off. Is not as lucrative as multiplayer and hybrid situations like Destiny, where they have free lead to implement whatever bullshit economy they want and get away with it. But the more they try to standardize and level the kind of games avaiable, the more the create demand for something different. See for example what happened when a few years ago most big companies declared the horror videogames dead, and then several indie devs proved them wrong.
Any succesfull form of media survives thanks to variety and changing trends. No matter how hard companies like EA and Activision want, they won't be able to impose their shitty idea of what the videogaming landscape should be like to everyone. Story-driven titles will disappear for good only when videogames an a whole do. They may lay low for awhile, but they sure as hell are gonna outlive this current era of empty open worlds and loot boxes.

Shit, seeing all these open-world games are only making me want to experience a more linear, story-focused single-player game even more. Mostly because the open-world games are becoming so goddamn formulaic and predictable.

Oh yeah, that too. It's like they're one step away from being a free-to-play game without wanting to admit it. The best example of this that I can remember in detail is Dragon Age: Inquisition. All I can remember when I think back on the 15 hours I played of it is the constant scavenging for basic resources just so I could get better items in order to not get completely fucked by every encounter. I know why there needs to be low-tier weapons and such in games with loot-based gameplay, but it falls apart when the rewarding piece of gear drops once in a blue moon and it feels like you're constantly backstroking in a river of shit.
Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
It seems, though not clearly stated, that Teldrassil burns first, then the attack on the Undercity. The Horde in the EK get bottled in to Silvermoon, and the main fight is in the Arathi Highlands, where Stromgarde will be the first of the RTS callback "Warfront" dealies. The Alliance will keep the Exodar in Kalimdor. It seems like Wrathion might join the Alliance and Sylvanas' council of undead she left to rule the UC might have forced the war for some stupid reason, and she tried to stop it, but failed.

Aw, where's Talon?
Man, what I would give to get a Primal Rage reboot.

I'll be honest, I think outside of some neckbeards with a ton of free time, most people will make a classic account, see how long it takes to form one single group for a dungeon like UBRS and return to current WoW or whatever other thing they've been doing before. "Community" is fine and dandy, but waiting one or two hours just to get a group going is something you can do as a teenager, college student or unemployed person, not as an adult with a full-time job and other shit to do as well. And classic WoW is for people nostalgic for the "good old times", hence teenagers and college students fall right out of that picture.
The current main frost spec is using Thermal Void, but luckily Glacial Spike (which is near enough to the better frost mage specs since Pandaria) is close enough to still play it competitively at the heroic level.

@Drag: Primal Rage was so fucking cool. Never in my life did I pull off one of the fatalities tho. I had this giant Diablo toy, and you could feed it these tiny plastic worshippers, just like the game, and I remember mine got lost in one of the sandbox areas at school. Clearly, this has stuck with me well over 2 decades later.
@magnus: I would wager most people will drop off before level 40, much less 50, or 60. But there'll be a couple thousand active players, for a good while, which is what Blizzard expects as well. Since the community will have "solved" the game already, it'll be necessarily different, but it'll be fun again. Optimism!
I got my mage to 110 shortly before I canceled my sub, and it was odd having to actually think about fighting basic mobs. Normally I play tanks and my lock, so trying to level with fire was rough. Ice was great, obviously. Arcane was interesting, but I didn't play it long enough to get a good rhythm for how it's supposed to work with mana. I'll admit, summoning a giant ice spike was one of the cooler visuals I've seen in a while.
@Dark: That actually looks like stuff worth having. What'd it cost for the box?

I managed to pull off a fatality once, but it was sheer dumb luck, and I could never duplicate it.
The only Primal Rage machine in my area was at the local Chuck E. Cheese's. None of the other arcade establishments had it. I always found that odd. And none of the local toy stores had any of the figures. But the Toys R Us near my grandma's house in Delaware had them aplenty.

The next 3 codex's.
Makes sense, given the rumors of where the narrative is heading soon.

I feel a little sorry for kids now. Sure, smartphones, tablets, computers, they're super easy to use now, huge selection of time killers, but there was something wistful and pure about playing M-rated games at an arcade because no adult knew it, or learning to use the old internet with no guidance, or going biking into the woods and nobody had any means of being contacted. That and I'm getting old, now fetch me my cane, we're playing Primal Rage on the ecks-boxes.
