I don't believe anyone has stated it's good that NN is going to be repealed, so much as that it's more nuanced than a straight "good vs bad" situation. Giant corporations win either way. Instead of Youtube/Netflix/reddit/etc., the scumfucks who compose a majority of all internet traffic, it's the ISPs, the scumfucks who handle the connections.

This wasn't about a "free and open internet," because the big companies on the side of NN are themselves heavily restrictive and censor-happy on their platforms. Take reddit for example. They've banned a bunch of boards for wrongthink in the last few years. A board for misogynistic male virgins to vent about women/society, a board for mocking fat people, pretty much all non-white racism boards (Coontown was the first and largest I believe), creating special rules to prevent the_donald from reaching the front page, and on and on. How does that company then claim it values a free and open internet, when its one of the major forces fighting against the concept?

All the censorship and deplatforming has been coming from the companies who run the content side of the internet! The ISPs have been more focused on creating monopolies and price gouging, not deciding what you should see and think. We were fucked either way on this issue, but at least when the ISPs start tier pricing and throttling, it probably won't come with "restricting harmful content." For a while anyway. This was always going to be the result of the wild west being tamed, one way or another.

Lets all be fair here. When Trump stepped into office the plan was always to look after himself, not the country or anyone else. The guy is a puppet for his party in my view, he gets a few of his "priority" programs in place while implementing most things his party wants. To him all his campaign promises where his sales pitch, something that as far as he was concerned was not self binding. If people took is promised as if written in stone instead of with a pinch of salt, then that is the fault of the people who voted for him. Don't get me wrong, the guy is a complete douche. Not to mention that for my daily dose of comedy I look forward to either his tweets/conferences or what new shenanigans the Tory party is doing here in the UK.
