There are people out there who get offended on behalf of other people. Take for example the Ghost in the Shell movie and those complaining about white washing. Ends up people in Japan didn't really care about it, but there were people here who took it upon themselves to try to get them to care.

As far as the new Catherine, or "Rin" as shes being called. Its really too early to say. But they haven't shied away from the transgender topic in the past. Its, of course, possible its neither, and Rin is just a girl. The trailer implies otherwise though.

I find it delightful that a game that is about potentially cheating on your girlfriend with a demon beat Bioware to that particular social justice punch though.

I don't really like Tinder. Even though it's the only online dating platform where I've ever gotten a date it's quite disheartening when it tells you someone likes you and you have to take a gamble and swipe right on the correct person to get a match. Tried out phenibut for the first time yesterday. It's a general purpose mood enhancer, basically tones down the parts of the brain that makes you sad/anxious/crazy. As it's an unregulated drug outside the eastern bloc, it's entirely legal to buy everywhere but Australia. Thoughts and notes:

I acquired a 125g tub of phenibut HCL for $30 with shipping from one of the online vendors known for purity testing. Also bought a digital scale capable of reading milligrams, as the recommended doses range from 300mg to 1g, depending on what you're aiming for. Therapeutic dose is roughly 500mg or less, depending on bodyweight, and recreational is more.

I decided that as a 190 pound male, 500mg would be a good dosage. It takes about 4 hours to kick in, and has a half life of a couple hours, though the effects seem to linger. Managed to scoop out exactly 499 mg in two scoops, picking one of my tiny spoons at a whim, which I was mildly proud of. As the HCL version of the raw powder is _highly acidic_, the method of mixing in water and chugging seemed unwise for my teeth. So I went with the "parachute" method, where I dumped the powder into a quarter of a tissue, wrapped it up, compressed, then swallowed with water on an entirely empty stomach, and waited 2 hours before ingesting any real calories. Chased with 2 Tums and more water, then coffee, to neutralize the acid. I noticed no particular gastric distress, but I don't have acid reflux ever anyway.

The effects kicked in around 3 hours after, probably because I was able to metabolize so quickly. Changes in mental state are hard to describe, but a "lightening of the soul" is a decent phrasing. I became unable to care about the annoying stressors that I normally care a lot about, and felt happy and content. There were no cognitive impairments that I noticed, which is a major positive. Smiling for no reason fairly often, music (Which I'm normally fairly indifferent to) resonated "deeper", almost like it was vibrating in my chest if that makes sense, and my willingness to talk to people and do things vastly improved. It wasn't a change from "caring too much" to "I don't care," which implies a brusque dismissal of something, but an inability to care. Consciously, I was aware of this change, and quite pleased. I imagine the effect is similar to childhood, where an underdeveloped danger sense and being simple of mind lead to a happiness of ignorance, as opposed to an adult mind that knows too much and runs too fast because it's fight or flight sense is not calibrated for modern life.

Related, but because of how the drug works, my ability to make value judgements was relaxed. When it came time for dinner, I made zero effort to look around for what I could make, instead immediately deciding to get takeout. A $20 charge was given virtually no weight, as opposed to my normal mind, where I'd give it too much weight and then spend it anyway, depending on my budget. Which was fine, as it's in my budget for the month, but there was none of the usual thoughts and planning I would undergo. Which is probably how happy-go-lucky people get into financial difficulties. Though I believe that it's a limited effect, because I later was looking at my Amazon wishlist and quickly decided not to spend any more money on a couple things I wanted. Perhaps all that happened was cutting out the pointless mental paperwork between thought and goal, perhaps not.

The phenibut began to wear off by the early evening, though I remained largely content, and the "soul weight" reappeared in the early morning before sleep. Roughly 14 hours of effect, peaked 4-8 hours in. As this drug very rapidly builds a tolerance, and obviously effects such as that are going to be highly addictive, my research showed a great many people immediately begin abusing it and burning out their ability to get any use from it. It is recommended to take it twice a week, max, at 1.5g or less, spread out over 2 doses a day. As being able to spend a day a week feeling unburdened by myself is appealing, my plan is to use it once a week, probably on a Saturday, at the therapeutic dosage level. Ideally the mindset it creates will spill over long after the phenibut is out of my system, and so the need for a happy powder diminishes. Thankfully, I make a game of quitting things I enjoy for the sake of proving I don't need them, so I have no worries about abuse.

TLDR: Legal happy powder is pretty good, doesn't jumble mind, requires very strict usage discipline, putting a libertarian principle to the test is interesting, anything that makes you feel that good is a potential danger if you cannot control yourself, 7/10.

Re: Hawking - I'll echo you all, it's a feat he lived so long, his work will outlive him by centuries, and we have lost an intellectual great, regardless of how history treats him. RIP.

@Theo: I saw the trailer and it purposefully ambiguous, so I suppose it'll be a surprise. But given McDonald's waitress was trans, which I didn't catch right away, I wouldn't be surprised per se. Japan's handling of sexuality in general seems less obnoxious than the west, though that may be the cultural filter at play.

Guys are easier because they are just more direct than women.
