Unfortunately, I have to agree here...
It's pretty weird to be in an era where America is doing better kaiju movies than Japan... but here we are...

The humans are primarily there to get the plot going. They don't need to do anything amazing, they just have to be tolerable and don't do anything big times stupid. The 2014 does that... okay... it's a shame Bryan Cranston's character dies so early in the movie since he was by far teh best actor in it, but the rest of the cast didn't say or do anything brain-nummingly stupid, and Kong: Skull Island's only truly useless character I'd say was Brye Larson, since she was just there to be the random girl the big ape saves.
The new Toho stuff instead... Shin Godzilla's runtime is literally occupied almost by half of board meetings of the japanese government talking about how Godzilla's rampage is causing enough damage to put the nation's economy down to its knees, and doing actually dick to stop it. And the anime movie's main character spend most of his dialogues reacting surprised or angry at something some of the other cardboard cutouts says, and repeat the last sentence they said while he's at it...

well true, it doesn't mean they can improve the human characters just a bit in the american movies.

GUESS WHO'S BACK AND CARRYING A NEW FUSION CANNON?!
Never fear, Megatron is here!
His hand is covering up his chest marking/insignia/badge, so is he an Autobot, a Decepticon, or his own faction now?

Peter and MJ back together. As it should be.
But I can't shake the feeling Marvel's setting us up for a "GOTCHA! THEY'RE NEVER GETTING BACK TOGETHER, YOU LOSERS!" moment. They've done it before. They need to commit and provide assurances.

Thor had more chemistry with Sif and Storm than with Jane Foster IMHO.

I found the final battle between Jack and Aku to be anti-climatic and over way too fast. Years of hype and speculation were building to this. We needed something more climatic.
Ahoksa vs Vader was also way too short, and I didn't like the ambiguous ending of it. The time bending "World Between Worlds" element Rebels later introduced did clear that up, but not in a way I liked. Ahsoka grew to become one of my favorite characters on Clone Wars, and is one of the best new elements introduced into the Star Wars mythos in recent memory IMHO, but I really think we should have seen her die at the hands of Vader's blade. I think there could have been a lot of great tragic pathos in showing that. And having Ahsoka outlive the time of the Empire feels… weird. Knowing she could have bumped into Luke or Han at any time in the old trilogy or beyond is… just weird.

So this is what the Neon Genesis Evangelion fans have been waiting for?
Giving a giant NOPE and a giant PASS from me. Not interested.

Personally I look forward to that pretentious mess to be over once and for all.
Just make sure Anno doesn't return to work on Godzilla afterwards. Like, ever again.

How many retcons are we up to now in regards to the origins of the symbiotes?
So symbiotes are now the creations of a dark god that became free from his control by Thor when he zapped them with his lightning breaking their link with their maker and they rebelled. That kinda makes them less aliens from another world and more supernatural beings forged from the void itself. I don't like that. I prefer the simplicity of symbiotes just being regular aliens that come from another planet. Why do we need this needlessly complicated backstory involving an nihilistic-emo-vampire-god fighting Celestials at the dawn of the universe and bumping into Thor on ancient Earth? If the writer wanted to tell a story about supernatural creatures breaking away from a dark god, great, I'm with ya, but why retcon the symbiotes for the millionth time and use them?

Re: Animation and Comics
Seriously. This is like the 3th or 4th re-telling of their origin. First they were a race of parasytes, and the Venom symbiote was the white fly who wanted to co-exist with an host rather than suck it dry. Then we got all the Klyn'tarn shtick and the place the V-symbiote came from was a splinter colony went feral of them. Then the symbiote was retconned to be mad and feral because his first hosts were retconned to be some alien overlord and a time-traveling Deadpool. And now all of that originates from from cosmic vampire-looking asshole? Who also happens to wear the Venom logo on his chest, despite the fact that's supposed to be a leftover from the time the symbiote was with Spiderman.
That is sooo nedlessly convoluted. It's like the mess Donna Troy or Rachel Grey had been written into in the past. Ugh.
