I was catching up with family, and two amusing things caught me off guard.

My mother's fourth question to me was "Is it really true Nintendo killed off Luigi?", referencing the last Smash Direct. And she knows practically nothing about video games, has no interest in them, doesn't follow any news about them whatsoever. The fact that word about that Direct reached my mom's ears, and she seemed genuinely sad over the idea of Luigi's being dead, made me do a double take.

And one of my sisters is now watching anime, and prior to this she's never seen an anime in her life, never had an interest in it before. She loves My Hero Academia and is almost done with season 2 currently. Plans to watch Dragon Ball and Z afterwards. Did not see that coming.

It wasn't like they heard that by that point in the comics the original Robin (Dick Greyson) had already grown up and became a superhero in his own right. But the idea that something old and familiar might disappear is as depressing as finding out a local landmark is going away.

Get her into mecha anime! It's never too late for Zeta Gundam or Patlabor!

I was never really opposed to anime and was always open to watching it, but crappy anime is like....really, *really* crappy. It's capacity for suckage is ample and copious and profound in a way that puts all other suckery to shame.

So I was really cautious about just trying random anime for fear of getting epicly scalded.

Yeah, well. There are like 25-30 new shows every three months, what do you expect? I'd say that the amound of crap Netflix series will skyrocket exponentially when they get done producing all the new stuff they are planning. Making this about "anime is mostly crap" is a wrongheaded approach, there is generally a ton of crap or average media and only some shows have the necessary quality to rise above the average. The same goes for anime, naturally.

As someone who has been intentionally seeking out bad anime with a fried of mine, I can assure you that when Anime goes bad, it goes bad worse then any TV show or Movie.

At my previous job I cataloged library books all day, which involved cataloging lots of manga. (Yea, yea not anime but considering how much anime starts as manga...) I still remember some horror I had to catalog that was just a generic, crappy high school drama story. Except all the characters, inexplicably were centaurs. That's it. Just centaurs in high school. Nothing to see here.

I'm not really feeling "the best character creation you've ever seen" that CDPR were talking about. I'd at least expect sliders, although the light tattoos and wiring is something I really wanted so I'm glad to see that in there.

Well there is a lot of culture stuff that doesn't gel for some in a lot of anime I like. I can definitely say that the less "deep" an anime gets there is more often a chance that it'd be liked by me to be perfectly honest.
Plus there is an absolute precedence for people to say most of TV is crap due to what's put out. It's regularly said/made fun of. So saying it for anime is 100% fair IMO.

Suppose I'll have to be flexible with this one, transhumanism being the aesthetic and all. For whatever reason, the 48 minute video keeps cutting off halfway. Maybe because I'm away from my computer and using my ancient iPhone as a router. Still! It looks fantastic, though I need more meat to go with those delicious trimmings.

I don't think we'll get cyberpunk until around 2020 if we are lucky after all this game company take their time with their games and they claim there is still a lot to do.

Hell I wouldn't be surprised if they first release until the next console generation comes out.

It does seem like an oddly large amount of Millennials have tattoos or piercings. Always figured that was a late teens/early 20's thing, then you cover them up or take them out, but here we are. My little brother has a couple, one of which made a very unsubtle point about his lifestyle, but I'm clear. Have an old ear piercing hole that never closed up from when I was 11 or so, but that's about it. Makes me feel like a grumpy old man when I see people online posting pictures of their giant new tattoo of some pop culture thing.

The hard thing is going to be able to pull off the aesthetic AND have it fit with most middle of the road PC's.
The Cyberpunk aesthetic is as much shiny and neon as it is dark and grungy. It's an odd mix honestly and in order to do the lighting they'd want with neon stuff and to keep the shadows and stuff dark enough, it's going to be tough.

There’s a 40k short story called the Armour of Fate that got released recently. Towards the end Guilliman and Eldrad Ulthran meet and have an interesting conversation concerning what’s coming over the horizon:

And on top of that, the next big wave of Tyranids is hinted to be right around the corner. Eldrad says the fates of the Eldar and Man are tied together now. Finally got my endoscopy today. Arrived 20 minutes early, and ended up waiting an hour and a half past the scheduled time for my doctor to finish chatting with random ass people and do his job.

Abdominal hernia, GERD, Barrett's esophagus. So my insides aren't in a great state. Sedation was nice tho. I can't recall everything the doctor said afterwards, but the gist was that I shouldn't lift heavy things, ever, or drink a lot of coffee, eat a lot of delicious food, and so on, for the rest of my life. Then he said getting a surgery to correct the hernia would be complicated too. So I'm a wee bit concerned, but I should see him in a few weeks to go over this in more detail.

Still, nice to finally know what's going on with my insides.
