This is not a statue in a park dedicated to some fictitious caricature of the "Marble Man" Robert E. Lee. This is not some nauseating monument in front of a courthouse to the "Spirit of the Confederacy." This is a *tombstone.* A marker where actual men's bodies are interred, men who were PoWs who died far from their homes, men who may have been drafted (yes, the Confederacy also had a draft) and had no real choice about where they found themselves. It is not glorifying what they did in life or what they stood for. Murderers and rapists get tombstones.

How is this any different than Nazis ripping down tombstones in Jewish cemeteries to erase their very memory?

Those animals appear to have an active awareness of death and a complex emotional response to it. But they don't have rites for the dead: specific ground that they consecrate, pilgrimages they go on to visit the sites of death, upkeep of said sites, prescribed methods of deposing of bodies, etc. They emote when they stumble upon death. They do not structure and formalize the process of death and grief, turn it into a cultural apparatus, and teach it to their offspring.

Also, we can't deconstruct our human nature in such a way that we can escape it for this simple reason: Before we "deconstruct," before we enter a "deconstructed" state, we have to decide how we will go about deconstructing and what sort of deconstructed state we should push towards, and those value judgements are made by our non-deconstructed selves, that is, they are derived out of our innate nature. Given that literal translation is impossible even from Spanish let alone Japanese, we are trusting translators to do this already. Also manga and anime aimed at a child audience at least does get edited for some violence and sexual content. Japan has totally different standards about what they feel is okay to show kids then we have.

I'm not advocating that my version be the only version available and that everyone should be forced to watch it. I'm saying if I had a choice I'd probably pick the no Grapist version.

Man I can pull out the most recent events where trump wants to limit free speech, or I can go historical. But to answer your question, he's still attempting to limit the right to assemble in protest against his illegal activities. Those crazy liberals keep putting a stop to that particular brand of tyranny, though. Thank fuck for that. If those crazy conservatives can keep saying Michelle Obama is a man, then we can keep pointing out that trump's activities are illegal and divisive.

Either way you wouldn't believe it. And what I can do right now to make things better involves voting. Something the GOP hates and is actively trying to stop.
