A little while ago i was thinking about the Star Wars prequels and, by extension, Jar Jar Binks. I was wondering how Lucas thought that character was funny, let alone a good idea at all. What was it about that character he liked? What makes him think that character works? What is the basis of the 'comedy'?

Then it hit me. Br'er Rabbit.

Jar Jar Binks is just Br'er Rabbit from Disney's forgotten (or what they wish was forgotten) movie Song of the South.

Their mannerisms, the way they talk, the style of slapstick physicality, the weird racism.

Lucas himself told the main inspiration for Jar-Jar was Goofy, but I can totally see Br'er Rabbit being one of the inspiration for Jar-Jar's speech pattern, except they went for that made-up all-european language into one thing, rather than giving him a southern accent.

So, check your movie listings for the 8th onwards.

Because a bunch of people from Australia, to Europe to USA, are noticing a trend, that trend being the only "big name" or "decent" film coming out despite their theatres posting movies in 2-week increments/that cover the next 2 weeks whenever you look, as mine does is Captain Marvel. All other films are either mediocre films or old releases.

In some cases it is the only film advertised for the 8th.

As of right now here is my local;

Where did all the other listings go?

Even if you sort by "all films" the only decent film that isn't the "small theatre utter crap barely anyone sees" that goes beyond the 07/03/2019 date is Captain Marvel.

Cinema listings don't just run out all on the same day so this has got to be structured, right?

Yeah, Disney is trying everything to make sure people go see Captain Marvel, even making sure there are no notheworthy competitors once it comes out.

Well, everything but telling Brie Larson and all the shill journalists to stop with the feminazi bullshit, of course. Which is ultimately gonna be what makes sure the movie underperforms (I really doubt it's gonna outright flop with all the momentum the series has built), and make the MCU starts to go down the same Star Wars and the Marvel comics are going. Sigh.

Well the movie hasn't come out yet, there is still a chance it'll be fun or at least the cat and Nick will steal the show.

and there is only the Avengers end game and Sider-man movie after Captain Marvel after that there are no MCU movies next year which is good that way people can breath a bit.

The leaks don't bode well, like apparently it's half "remember THAT thing from the other movie" and half "Carol is MCU's Rey". I iwll actually wait 'till the movie is out to decide once and for all if I go to see it or not, but right now I'm inclined on "no".

And apparently next thei're gonna go the queerbait route, and rewrite as gay one of the main characters of The Eternals movie. Which wouldn't be too bad per se, but we know Disney can't have openly lgbt characters in their movies, or China won't buy them, so it's just gonna be another Pansexual Lando situation, where the fact the movie has a gay main character is gonna be all that media talks about, and in the film itself is barely hinted at, if at all.

The rumor about the two cuts of Avengers Endgame do sound fairly plausible, I must say... especially after what Disney went through with Star Wars over the last few years. They just can't afford to fuck up the MCU the same way. Well... they can, but it would cost them a crapton of money regardless.
