New trailer, if you didn't know about it yet.
And this got to be the first trailer I have ever seen that gives practically nothing away about the plot of the movie.

Well I saw Captain Marvel and it's fine.
It's very much like every other Marvel Origin movie, it's just fine and entertaining.

It's not 100% confirmed yet, but apparently Disney is looking to ri-hire James Gunn and get Guardians of the Galaxy vol.3 out of limbo.
Call me paranoid... but I think that with Captain Marvel being headed in the same direction of SW: Last Jedi (aka great opening week, but then massive sales drop and months of b.s. controversies before and after release) The Mouse might have decided to make sure the MCU's positive buzz doesn't get killed off past Avengers Endgame.
Either way, if it's true and we get Gunn back in charge of the cosmic stuff at Marvel, a whole lot of my worries for the future are already gonna go poof.

Well, I don't think re-hiring James Gunn would mean much of change here. It would've been the same script for the GotG3 with or without James Gunn. That said, if this news do turn out to be true, it's really good news. Only Gunn can do Guardians as well as the first two movies.
Also, I got to agree with your "The mouse thinking the future" comment. This timing is too much of suspect right now. Though I don't know about sales drops. At least right now Captain Marvel is going on bar with pretty much most of normal MCU movies or DC movies, meaning about 10M dollar on week days.
Of course, there is also another possibility here. Because this recent Fox-Disney deal, Disney is losing lots of money with it. They will now need ALL the money possible. And because Star Wars ain't their "automatic" success option anymore, Disney needs all the money from MCU. There is also no doubt that firing James Gunn hurt the future of MCU, especially whole Guardians franchise and even cosmic side of the MCU. This might have made Disney re-considering their decision in this case.
Though after reading about this news and listening SJU talking about it, it seems that this re-hiring deal was done months ago.

Re: Films and TV (Untagged spoilers)
Yes, before being fired Gunn was supposed to oversee all the cosmic marvel movies past Avengers 4, and there were talks of him directing a Silver Surfer movie or a Fantastic Four movie, if Disney ever got their hands on those. Which also seems a funny coincidence, considering next week the Fox buyout becomes 100% official.
As for Captain Marvel, apparently it needs to make something like 750 milions just to break even, due to the extremely expensive marketing campaign of the movie. So if this weekend we see the same kind of box office drop Last Jedi went through, it might mean the movie doesn't even make all its money back, since it still needs about 200M more just to break even. Not too mention all the online shitstorm, and apparently even some major behind the scenes bad blood between Brie Larson, the Russo Brothers (who didn't want to shoehorn Cpt Marvel in Avengers 4) and the bulk of the core MCU cast, that apparently isn't very fond of her "activist first, actress later" attitude. Rumors are that Elisabeth Olsen in particular isn't happy her character is getting sidelined to make room for Brie's. So that all put togheter could very well mean that Disney and Marvel are rethinking the original plans for the post-Avengers Endgame and also bringing back the guy who could make good cosmic marvel stuff, and holding tight to him.
Of course it might be something that has been talked about behind the scenes for months, and that is being made official just now, still for good p.r. reasons. But either way, it's good news wathever the reason it's happening now.

I saw Captain Marvel. I found it to be kinda mediocre. Wasn't as exciting or as funny or tightly paced or well-written as some other MCU movies in my opinion. Its your average, middle of the road, run of the mill, by the numbers superhero flick. Its fine. Not terrible, not great. Just fine. DC's Wonder Woman was much better in my opinion.
