I just cant bring myself to pre-order this game. I love Mortal Kombat. it holds a very dear place in my heart. But I'm not going to buy a game that only has 2/3rds of the total roster of characters in it.
Theres going to be 36 characters after all the dlc. The game launches with 27ish?
If I wait a year I get them all for half the price.

Agreed. It's a common trope with WB games at this point. They get people early with the preorder bonuses, then reward who waited longer instead by releasing cheaper, complete editions of their stuff with all the DLCs attached. The Batman Arkham games did it. The Shadow of Mordor games did it. And all the Netherealm fighting games do it.

Man, after years of only a few games worth buying per year, I find myself with a good few I have to sit on my hands for until I have the money to spare. DMC5, RDR2, Sekiro, that VN I linked...how odd. It's almost like being a kid again.

2017 was the best year in gaming I have ever seen. 2018 was ok. 2019 is looking pretty damned good so far. Especially for me, as I'm factoring in a lot of Nintendo games.

They've all been better then 2016 for me, which was the most pathetic year in gaming I remember.
Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
A lot of it is that Capcom is hitting them out of the park lately. Rockstar doesn't make bad games, Shantae 5 is going to be good even if it isn't, Sekiro is my jam, etc. A lovely convergence of games that I like and are good. Nothing will be quite like that golden period from ME1-ME2, at least not until the next iteration of the industry, but I'm glad to see some quality getting past the gatekeepers.
Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
1998 is my best gaming year, because that's the year MGS came out and pretty much made it so good writing and voice a thing all good games should have.

Good question, I'd have to say 2015 because of The Witcher 3. But there have been many good years for gaming, so it's actually a hard question.

I can barely recall what happened in vidya in any given year, though I wasn't a big gamer for a long time. Little Chad-lite for most of my childhood, actually. Then I turned 13 and moved halfway down the east coast and everything fell apart, but until then, I was quite sporty, always out riding bikes, wrasslin', or doing other stuff.

'98 was a good year indeed. Metal Gear Solid, Starcraft, Half-Life, Ocarina of Time, Banjo Kazooie, Baldur's Gate, Xenogears, Resident Evil 2, Sypro The Dragon, Parasite Eve, Turok 2, MediEvil, Star Wars Rogue Squadron, Marvel vs Capcom, Pokemon Yellow, Bomberman Hero, Fallout 2, Tomb Raider 3... all came out that year. A little something for everyone.
The period between 1990 and 2010 had some excellent years for gaming. If you go back and look at what came out in that time frame, you see some of the most beloved and influential titles of all time. And so many came out in close proximity to each other.
I honestly don't know off the top of my head which year I'd say was my best. I'd have to seriously think about that. I want to say 2000 for Majora's Mask, Paper Mario, Diablo 2 and Marvel vs Capcom 2… but then I remember 2001 had Smash Bros Melee, Luigi's Mansion, Golden Sun, Halo, Silent Hill 2, GTA 3, Devil May Cry, Final Fantasy X, Star Wars Rogue Leader, and Castlevania Circle of the Moon… but 2002 gave me Metroid Prime and Warcraft 3… but then I recall that 1997 had Goldeneye, Starfox 64, Final Fantasy 7, and Castlevania Symphony of the Night… and on and on it goes. So many choices.

Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
So I just beat Sekiro. And by "Beat" I mean reached the final boss, got fed up with this games horse shit, and YouTube'd the endings.
A Brief Review:
Let's get the good out of the way first. The game controls very well. The grapple mechanic is a lot of fun, and very fluid. Every location is detailed, haunting, and gorgeous. The more straightforward story telling is a welcome addition to the Souls ambient and item based story telling . Both exist, both are interesting. If I had a the PC version of the game, I would assuredly mod it so I could enjoy the world and story without the stress.
Sekiro is the final product of a series of events that have been in the making since Dark Souls 2 first got DLC. At some point in the development process for the SoulsBorne games, From Software decided that the games needed to not only be challenging, but annoying. First it was just giving Bosses absurd amounts of health (Dark Souls 2 DLC). Then it was introducing the concept of boss heat up, where they get harder as the fight goes (Bloodborne). Then they decided that rather then a boss having stages, they would just be split into multiple boss fights, one after another (Dark Souls 3).
Sekiro has all of those mechanics and more. Boss fights will have ungodly amounts of health, incredibly small arenas, multiple stages, and when the fight is finally over, you have to fight their second or even third form with no break. If you lose, you have to do ALL of it over again. You cant level grind. You cant summon help.
Defenders of this game have been spewing the same old nonsense about how these games couldn't work with an easy mode, but what they seem to be ignoring is that EVERY Dark Souls game, and Bloodborne ALREADY had built in easy modes. Between level grinding, certain weapons, certain armors, certain items, and most importantly SUMMONING HELP, you could adjust the games difficulty as necessary.
Sekiro isn't just hard, its annoying. And easily the weakest modern From release. I have BEATEN Dark Souls 1, 2, and 3. More than once. I have beaten Bloodborne. I love those games dearly. They are excellent example of games that, while challenging, are fair. Every area, every boss, was not about twitch based reflexes, it was about strategy. Sekiro is about mashing parry, and hoping the boss doesn't use its arena sweeping 1-shot-kill attack. The ninja mechanics make getting through areas significantly easier, so they had to make up for it by making every mini-boss and boss a brick wall.
Even if I COULD beat the final boss. I would never want to play Sekiro again.
7/10 - Intentionally annoying. Far too punishing. Actually needs an easy mode.
(For some context.
Dark Souls 1
9.5/10 - Clunky, but greater than the sum of its parts.
Dark Souls 2
9/10 - Mechanically superior to the first game, but lacking in uniqueness.
Bloodborne
10/10 - A certifiable masterpiece of game design.
Dark Souls 3
8/10 - Limiting in its build variety. Too much focus on being fast.)

Two full playthroughs and for the third (on NG+) I only lost my motivation somewhere in Blood and Wine (after I got the grandmaster wolven armor). Still working up to my fourth one, but I know that it is a full month time investment. An incredible game.

First best game year I remember was '97 with Star Fox 64 and DK Country. I played all sorts of great games the decade beforehand, but I could have played SF64 until my parents ripped the controller out of my hands. Honestly, not really into new games that much right now. Just not feeling it.

Well... The cycle begins again. I'm starting an exercise routine. Maybe I'll finally stick to it.
This time just some simple weightlifting with a pair of 10 pound dumbbells. Monday arms, Wednesday Core, Friday legs.
Its a bit embarrassing how hard even 10 pounds is these days.

All you have to do is deplete his health bar, while simultaneously keeping him from depleting your health bar.
(If you haven't already, might I suggest exploring more. There are areas that you not only can do before that bossfight, but you are rewarded for doing first.)

And if the MKX comic is still canon Kintaro was killed by Reiko's goons during the 20 something years timeskip, and Sheeva is fuck who knows where, leading what's left of the Shokan.

Looking around the 40k reddits and forums, it seems like a lot of people are upset with how the Vigilus campaign went. Chaos fans are mad, Xenos fans are mad, Imperium fans are mad. Chaos fans feel like they got cheated out of an easy victory; some are even saying they’d rather have lost honestly rather than what they got. Xenos fans are mad they didn’t really factor into the story at all other than the Craftworld Eldar, and they’re mad they got strongarmed into doing what the Imperium wanted them to. Imperium fans are upset they didn’t have an honest win and that once again, the greatest foe in 40k is the status quo: nothing really changed. After all the hype and build-up, it was more of the same. Two different writing teams handle the novels and the campaigns; the novel guys should have more say in things, since they can tell satisfying stories.
////
Nurgle’s daemons, Mortarian, and the Death Guard have gotten their asses kicked pretty damn hard in the Plague Wars so far. Some solid Imperial victories there. Even the Emperor seems to be getting involved with saints and miracles to make sure Chaos can’t cheat.
Tyranid Hive Fleet Kronos continues to fuck up Chaos pretty good, since they were specifically created to counteract and weaken Chaos. Some high level daemons of all 4 Chaos Gods and their personal armies even tried to avenge their infamous defeat to the ‘Nids at Shadowbrink, and the ‘Nids kicked their asses there even harder the second time. Traitor Marines also lost the Battle of the Wolf’s Head thanks to Hive Fleet Kronos eating all their ships before they even knew what hit them. It was a bloodbath.
You’d think there’d be more Necron activity against Chaos, but so far the writers haven’t done anything with that yet other than some vague mentions and speculations.

Well, I was pretty happily playing Kingdom Hearts 3 and then got to the final sequence which consists of like 10ish "final" boss fights in a row and just sort of got fed up and quit. The fights aren't even hard or anything. It's just supremely annoying. Just fucking end already. I don't want to have to defeat generic asshat #756.3 and all his cousins first.
The game looks good and plays well. I never played the old ones so I don't really have a point of reference on that.
The plot makes no fucking sense whatsoever, even after I tried reading various supposed synopsis of the franchise's plot. It's impressively nonsensical.
The heavy amounts of plot nonsense and extraneous nobody fights brings the enjoyment down to something like 8.5/10 but it's otherwise quite fun.
