Can't decide if maybe I will brave the Endgame crowds this weekend.

For people who've actually seen both, how much does it matter if you haven't seen Captain Marvel yet? Will I miss out on anything of substance or not understand some stuff if I haven't seen that first?

If so, I'll probably go to the dollar movie and watch that this weekend and maybe Endgame next weekend.

Captain Marvel doesn't matter at all and is pretty much one of the worst MCU movies to date, you can skip it as it doesn't matter to Endgame at all.

It's like Solo: a SWS or the flashback sequence about Jack Sparrow in the last Pirates of the Caribbean movie. It's a pointless, poorly written prequel, that pretty much breaks continuity whenever it tries to add informations to its saga. Except it's also a very poorly done modern feminist movie too.

All you need to know is that there's this very powerful female superhero that doesn't show up much often because she's usually in deep space doing her thing.

If you want to watch it for completism's sake... go for it. It's not the worst movie ever or anything, but it's definately one of the 3 worst MCU movies and you're really not missing anything if you go directly for Endgame.

I'd have just recommended to watch the very first movie, and the Heisei saga.But these are some good pics overall.

I've always thought that Vs Biollante was a good film to introduce newcomers if you know your audience might have trouble connecting with the 1954 black-and-white original right off the bat; depending on which parts of the movie they ending up liking the most, you can direct them to the films that best embody those qualities and tones accordingly. But that might be my bias showing. I really like Vs Biollante.

Good news - Paramount and the director of the Sonic movie have sworn thei're gonna redesign that monstrosity they tried to sell as the movie's titular main character.

Proof that every now and then, the internet can produce some positive change.

But while this is an undeniable step in the right direction, it won't save the movie if the basic story structure is bad, or if the humor falls flat, or the characters prove to be dull. If the real meat and bones of the film are rotten, then even the most perfect looking Sonic won't matter. And its too late to change those things if that turns out to be the case. And that's what concerns me the most.

First batch of rumors about Star Wars Episode 9 are floating about the interwebs. As always, take with a massive grain of salt:

Half of Palpatine's soul latched itself to Vader's helmet after his death, the other half latched itself to Luke.

Snoke originally found Vader's helmet, and Palpatine's soul jumped to him.

Luke went into exile and cut himself off the Force to weaken Palpatine's ghost that was haunting him when he realized what was happening, and ascended beyond the mortal plane to prevent the two halves from reuniting.

After Snoke's death, the spirit inside him jumped to another. In one batch of rumors, its a new Dark Side acolyte played by Matt Smith, in another, its Kylo Ren.

The "World Between Worlds" seen from Rebels is used to reunite the two halves of Palpatine's spirit.

In the end, Palpatine possesses a host body and Kylo and Rey fight him together. After they kill the body he's using, Palpatine's soul just goes into Kylo. Kylo fights off the possession long enough to ask Rey to kill him. She does. Palatine's spirit cannot latch on to her because she's never touched the Dark Side in any significant way, and without a nearby anchor, Palpatine's soul dissipates into nothingness.

So it's Dark Empire minus all the clones of Palpatine and adding Kylie and Rey.

It's kind of what I expect to be happening in general,really. Even if the plot is different from the one Drag' posted... it's still going to be some form of Palpatine's ghost haunting the galaxy and ultimately being the reason things went so bad for Luke, and why Snoke was such an obvious yet ineffective Emperor equivalent, and why more or less it looks like the galaxy didn't much move past Empire and Rebels in 30 or so years. You know... instead than pandering and poor writing being the culprits.

And Rey is going to take down both Kylo and Sheev for good, of course, and we're gonna have a new Light Side and Dark Side paradygmn, with the New Jedi being called Skywalkers in a desperate attempt to please the fanbase (and because "EVERYONE can be the hero, it's not about special bloodlines anymore! Soo empowering!") and the Knights of Ren as the new Sith/Dark Jedi. So that they don't completely nuke the setting in the very off chance hey might decide to do something set past the Sequel Trilogy.

Just you wait. I'm fucking calling ALL of it.

Tormund and the remaining Wildlings are going home, and taking Ghost with them. Jon could have given him a better goodbye; Ghost looked so sad.

Gendry was made an official Baratheon and Lord of the Stormlands by Danny.

Arya doesn't want to marry Gendry; she's happy for him but marriage is not something she wants.

Bronn caught up with the Lannister brothers, and while he was prepared to kill them, he gave them an out: they bribed him with the lordship of Highgarden should they win.

Jon doesn't want to be King of the Seven Kingdoms and views her as his queen, but Dany's afraid his popularity and the truth of his heritage could threaten her claim all the same. She wants Jon to keep it a secret, but Jon felt obligated to tell his sisters the truth.

The Hound (with Arya) heads South to complete some unfinished business. CLEGANEBOWL IS COMING.

Rhaegal died in an ambush from the sea by Euron. They got lots more ballista. Drogon is the last dragon now.

Brienne and Jaime hooked up. But Jaime went South after hearing of the ambush.

Both Sansa and Varys think Jon would be a better ruler over Danny.

Missandei got captured and later killed.

Danny's hardcore pissed; she's ready to burn some cities, and Cersei in particular.

Saw Endgame. I liked it.

While I enjoyed the stakes, the references, the nods to the other movies, the high jinks and the big fights, I kinda prefer the first fight with Thanos because it was smaller and more focused, even if the second one was entertaining. When they first turned to time travel, I thought it'd be a nigh incomprehensible mess, but they managed to keep it together without making it too convoluted and confusing. It ended on a rather satisfying note as well. I have no idea where you go from there without making it all feel bloated, though.

Still don't know how Ant-Man survived that explosion. Some of the characters' powers were also rather neutered in real-time. Like how Captain Marvel can cut through a spaceship like it was made out of paper, but has a problem with a big purple man. I know that it was so that the main cast could get a shot at taking him down, but still.

And hey, Black Widow finally got a big moment in a Marvel movie. Even if she didn't walk away from it.

I think it went a little too much Return of the King near the end as well. Happy ending is happy, but it was dragging out. Oh and don't bother waiting until after the credits. There's just a sound of a clanging hammer that's apparently a nod to the first Iron Man movie.

I didn't watch Captain Marvel and I got through Endgame just fine. If anything, it's all the other movies that are somewhat needed to get a comprehensible picture.

Well Captain Marvel is pretty much the same character (strong and arrogant, while spitting out a quip or two from time to time) as she is in her entire movie (she doesn't have a character arc in her own movie which is pretty bad for an origin movie, among other things.) so you haven't missing anything from Captain Marvel worth of note from that movie to understand anything in Endgame.

I have already told you all you need to know and even then in Endgame she doesn't have that much screen time.

Yeah, it's apparently according to the deal with Marvel it's Sony's decision to when the Spider-man movies gets released, so it's pretty much their fault.

The next movies I'm interested in this year so far that's coming, is Godzilla king of the monsters that comes out this month and the Spider-man movie everything else is at best meh to me and I don't want to put money to them.

Honestly the only two big budget movies I was really really looking forward to this year are Endgame and Godzilla. Alita Battle Angel was a pleasant surprise, and SpiderMan Far From Home looks fun.

Other than that, meeeeh. Captain Marvel turned out pretty much as I expected to, and I have zero hopes for Star Wars Ep.9, and no intentions to waste money on it. I'll still follow the trainwreck from safe distance, but it's more gallow's humour sake. I'm going to be pretty much done with movies after Spidey, and Godzilla is the only one I really want to rush in to see now.

Oh, and Disney did greenlit all of the Avatar sequels James Cameron wanted to make (so 4, instead or 3 as it was rumored it might be reduced to) as long as he agreed to push back the releases to match with the new Star Wars stuff.

Meaning the final Avatar movie is going to come out over 15 years after the original. I don't even remember the damn thing already, other than for some of the alien beasts lol

Um, the very fact Jon Snow didn't kill the Night King is one of the exact points that GRRM likes to put out there. That prophecies and heroes don't always matter and they're usually not even who you though they'd be or when.
The Night King and Walkers were killed off too soon? That's life. It's unexpected.

What people mainly have a problem with is the act of placing character in literally unlivable scenarios and have them coming out of them unscathed.
Like, before, if any main character that's already died, say, Ser Barristan, Robb Stark, Jofffery or even Ser Arthur Dayne were placed in the same scenario as the current survivors they'd have all been overwhelmed and killed easily.
And that's what people hate, not the fact that people are dying (well maybe a small percentage but they're summer children), but because they're dying when it doesn't make sense and not dying when it should.

I mean, take the last episode for indication.
Rhaegal should not have died there and then. Or, if killing him was so easy, even wounded, then Drogon should have at least taken a wounding hit. You have one Dragon killed off too easily and one Dragon that is impervious despite their rider making the shots that would/should have hit it easier, namely by presenting the Dragon's flanks in a slow turn away from the fleet once she called off the attack.
