The basic plot of this game seems very cliche and predictable (not to mention the idea of a "Jedi hiding in plain sight and initially refusing to use their powers to avoid detection/having a crisis of faith" thing was done ten times better with Kanan Jarrus/Caleb Dume prior to joining Hera Syndulla and her crew) and the main character comes across as boring and completely interchangeable with a dozen other lame, unmemorable Star Wars protagonists who's names escape me because I just can't bring myself to care. Here's hoping the Imperial Inquisitor Second Sister is cool and she single-handedly ends up saving the entire narrative if she turns out to be a great villain. Not likely, but miracles sometimes happen.

The gameplay just seems dull. It seems like a generic action game.
Visually its not even impressive. The wookies look like big dudes covered in mud. I get the distinct feeling this game has only been in development a year. They are gunning for November 2019. I'll be very surprised if this game isn't delayed.
Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
It's always nice biting into a meat product and upon tasting it, having to stop for several moments to puzzle out if its tainted or not.
But also, E3, woooo!
I didn't bother with the EA thing since I don't want to become angry, but I heard it was fairly sterile, corporate crap, but some of the games look decent. Especially the Jedi one. Going to watch that as I lay in bed so I may sleep to happy thoughts. Positivity, boys. It matters.
@Drag: Also, with the Terra novels, that half-Eldar was _made_ or _bred_?

Made in a laboratory.

Oh I am, just not for anything connected with EA.
I'm looking forward to what Nintendo will show off--especially if the Smash Bros Ultimate DLC rumors prove true--as well more info on Doom Eternal and Cyberpunk 2077, just for starters.

That would indeed be a huge waste of storytelling opportunities if so. If they were going to do it, it should have been Rebels season 2 where it would have had the most emotional and thematic weight, for a manifold of obvious reasons.

Yeah, if it weren't EA publishing this I'd be hopeful that this is some older version where some things aren't fully fleshed out. Did anyone else feel the Hologram Map also felt a little...off visually? I mean, it's very obviously just blocked-in buildings and stuff with no terrain or anything to it.
People have been calling it Force Awakens 2, but with more story and less fun Force abilities.
I'm not sure on the story aspect but in terms of "fun with the Force" a bit of pushing, pulling, holding and bullet-time do not fun Force powers make.
Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
Anyway, after four campaigns played, my final thoughts about TW:3K, before I move on to something else. I will probably post this on Reddit as well.
It's overall a great game, with many improved systems, most importantly the diplomacy. The new diplomacy system will hopefully be the gold standard for any new TW game going forward.
While it falls a bit under the problem Shogun 2 Total War, i.e. too many similar units for (almost) all factions, the different mechanics you get from the different warlords mitigate that factor somewhat. Playing as Liu Bei does feel different from Kong Rong and Sun Jian. The Yellow Turban factions, however, feel really different in their unit composition (though they still fall under the usual spears/swords/bows/cavalry paradigm you get in every historical TW game). So, the game definitely has a high replayability factor through this alone.
As a Total War veteran, there are some criticisms, though.
Firstly, the ranking mechanic happens way too fast, so that you always get the "three emperors" event happening when you are still at the very start of building up towards getting a dominant position (mostly at around turn 100). This turns the rest of the game into a mad scramble to take out the other two emperors, before one of the other two AI players manages to do that to another AI and you are left facing two thirds (or more) of China. This also tends to end the game "early", since one enemy capital tends to be nearby to you and the other faction usually gives up after you invade it's realm and take some critical settlements from it. BTW, the reason I can say that 150 turns are "early" is because the turn times are really very quick throughout the game and empire management is streamlined enough make the time spent on the strategic map also reasonably short.
The only faction who doesn't really care about that are the Yellow Turbans, who are hated by everyone, anyway. But they still need to conquer all three capitals and have to own 95 settlements. I owned most of southern China at turn 200 and was only at 55, so good luck with that goal.
It's clear that the mechanic to do a realm divide is there to prevent your faction snowballing itself to be unstoppable. However, there is a second mechanic, corruption, which does the same and does so very effectively. Fighting corruption in your realm as it gets larger so far has been one of the constant chores the game imposes on you and it effectively limits you to not field only elite unit armies (which is something of a constant of campaigns in other Total War games like TW: Warhammer). You are normally stuck developing your highest profit regions to be as corruption free as possible and leave the rest to rot (although since corruption doesn't affect food production, some regions don't really need anti-corruption measures, since their money output is basically immaterial, anyway. This does not hold true for the Yellow Turbans, though, who combine all their food production buildings with peasantry income).
While most of the strategic administration mechanics work just fine, assignments and city building could use better interfaces. It's very easy to overlook the tiny assignment button in the lower left to not see that some of your assignees have returned and you are losing income because the assignments are not manned. A more noticeable interface for assignments (by location or size) would be very appreciated.
The city building button gets tedious later in the game, since after you've reached the maximum city level you want to reach (normally Regional City for me, outside of my commerce capitals), it still is blinking every turn. I wish CA would add a button to put a commandery "on hold" until you unlock it again to resume building.
I also wish that you could remove an administrator and reassign him to a new city without incurring the -20 satisfaction penalty. So far removing and reassigning adminstrators has been the only mechanic to change their assigned city which I've found and it seems unfair to see that -20 drop if they actually stay in their post.
Overall I did not find the battles as interesting in this iteration of Total War than in previous titles. The units by themselves most of the times do not look as interesting as in other Total War titles, since it's mostly basic leather armor wearing guys. Militia units stay relevant far too long into the late game as well, since their low morale does not seem to shatter as easily as it did for other low-level units in other Total War games and the infantry does seem to hold the line for a long time, which allows you to snipe out units with your archers and for your cavalry to do their job. Since archers get more munitions through your strategist generals as well, this works out too well even with militia archers. Overall, elite units don't matter that much by far against the AI. Also, the AI actually cannot afford to field many of them, anyway. I haven't seen a single elite unit stack fielded by the AI in four campaigns, only smattered units in their otherwise militia roster.
Depending on the warlord you play, you either can autoresolve most of your battles or you need to conserve strength and play almost every battle by hand. With Liu Bei I felt like Bud Spencer getting attacked by a horde of mooks, since Yuan Shao sicced his horde of vassals on me in the mid-game.

As He Yi, I autoresolved almost everything, since his army was rebuilt one or two turns later. As Kong Rong, I had a very long stretch after the start where I simply did not have battles, since I consolidated my trade empire and that was that.
In any case, I did not feel the excitement to unlock a new type of unit which I've felt in every prior Total War game, since it didn't really matter that much. I think Azure Dragons are the only unit which really changes your game, since their range upgrade really makes them worth the extra money you pay for them.
There's also the thing that the best economic regions are, except one, all in the southern half of the map. Aside from Taiyuan, Zheng Jian's starting region, there are only four other regions which have two economic buildings of the same type (commerce, industry, peasantry). They are all really near to Sun Jian. Combine that with him having two more regions with double food buildings nearby and it makes him the easy mode of the game. Hell, packing up, relocating to the south and displacing Sun Jian is actually the superior strategy for all warlords you can play. Aside from that probably killing off Sun Ren, that is. ^^
Don't take these criticisms to say that I think the game is bad, though. It's not. It just could be improved in some ways, which would make it even more enjoyable. I hope CA continues to improve the game and add new content for a long time (although I'll admit that I look more forward to Total War: Warhammer 3 and hope that they add the diplomacy system there and back into TW: WH 1+2).

Fallen Order looks pretty good. The graphics are functional nowadays, but it's been way too long since we got a decent Jedi game. Let's see if it lives up to Jedi Academy. ^^
Yeah, gotta get back to TW: Warhammer 2. I know how the Lizardmen are really slow going, since their economy sucks a bit and they got really expensive units and buildings. That's why my Kroq-Gar campaign never went off the ground and I gave up on him to play another faction. I probably should try again one day.
Vol wrote:Been working on a Cult of Sotek (Lizardmen) campaign slowly for the last week or two. It's nutty how long these things take, even for a good player. But the end is in sight as the Vermintide shows up, there's no chance of them making it to the ritual sites without being bled to pieces. Been neat, lizards have tough infantry, chameleon skinks are vicious if there's no cav to run them down, and dinos are always cool. A shame the carnosaur isn't more useful, with the AI always having a couple anti-large units on hand.
But more importantly, I got Lord Kroak as a hero. Holy shit he is awesome and handsome and cool and makes every battle a joke. I love it.

Heck, I had decided to try Divine Divinity before the Original Sin games mostly just to get an idea of how Larian's combat system had evolved over time so that if BG3 ends up being turn based, I'd at least have some experience with the way they do it. I expected it to be old and clunky and mostly unplayable, but I'm like 20-30 hours into it and actually having fun. I probably will go on and play Beyond Divinity and maybe just go through the whole Divinity line up.
Has anybody played the weird dragon riding/polymorphing game or whatever it is or the strategy game they made? Are those worth bothering with?

Looks pretty cool.
Still holding out for gameplay.
And even if I might get this one I even might play it, unlike the Witcher that is still sitting installed and unplayed...
Still, try as I might I hope there is a lot of humanisation plot in the game as right now it just looks like robots killing robots to me still. Which is annoying.

Oh man. Here I thought that Cyberpunk 2077 would just show up with a teaser trailer and a bit of gameplay from a slightly different perspective compared to last time and then they bust out Keanu Reeves, kill off Jackie (I'd guess/hope that you can stop it) and show a release date.

well there was that gamplay video last year.
What the hell you waiting for, go play the Witcher 3 already.
Well it is based on a board game were the lore is that people are basically cyborgs, basically Deus Ex but older and different for obvious reasons.

Well, up to date gameplay then.
I keep meaning to but I just never spend the time. Time.
I have a stupidly short attention span these days.
And I've never "gotten" the whole Cyberpunk aesthetic anyways. I just don't get it.

we'll see it eventually.
I know what you mean, which means you should play it right now so you at least get a taste of it.
I don't get Star Wars either, but it doesn't mean I can't enjoy the movies and universe for what it is, Cyberpunk is basically a more grounded and dirty for of scifi, more down to earth then say Star Trek and Star Wars.

Man, XBox had a GREAT showing this year! I was expecting pure shit, but they had a ton of games, little to no narm, and it's great to see their new Gamer's first direction finally bearing fruit.
And Keanu Reeves stole the show. I hope he's fucking romanceable in the game. <3

He's breathtaking.
I'm pretty pleased with Microsoft's conference this year. Halo and Skarlett sounds like it will be incredible, but they didn't show much. Anyway, there is a lot to be excited for; Gears, Halo, Cyberpunk, that new From Software title.
