if your politicians are anything like mine, then I'm not surprised.

Both sides always seem to saying the same BS (with different words), the american one just so happens to have Trump in it which makes things funny and much interesting.

Probably because our election is a circus and a train wreck all rolled into one.

I guess it helps that US political parties have vastly different political programs.

In Croatia, both social democrats and conservatives have almost identical fiscal program with only some social issues being different. Why is everyone trying to out-poplist the other side?

US elections are varied and a fun trainwreck to watch.

There's also the little fact that US politics kinda sorta influence the world's situation as an whole, so I do keep a close eye on the situation there as well.

So im guessing now probably isnt a good time to mention that i make a lemonade type drink called switchel that is literally just sugar, water, and apple cider vinegar.

Apple cider vinegar is the least offensive one I know of, actually. I wouldn't drink your switchel, obviously, but my aunt made a rib sauce with it two years back and I didn't even register the vinegar content, which is very rare.

Would an allergy only manifest as a strong aversion to scent and immediate vomiting upon consumption? Otherwise, once it's down, I have no problem digesting vinegar that I can recall. It's all in the taste/scent.

Kind of. In theory, their platforms are focused on very different ideas and policies. In practice, we're at a sort of trained equilibrium right now, where the vast majority of the population is going to be within the moderate range of either party, or Independent. So serious pushes to actually implement party platforms are necessarily watered down into something more moderate so they can actually win elections.

Example:
Ideal -> Republican platform calls for smaller government, delegating more powers to the state and local authorities to better serve their populations and minimize waste from overreaching programs.
Reality -> That means the people at the top willingly giving up power and wealth, so any specifics policies need to be tweaked and tweaked and tweaked, until it becomes "We'll give you $X to handle problem Y, but it comes with enough strings attached to strangle a horse." Plus natural power creep in a changing world. Case of everyone agreeing on a good idea, but no one willing to make the sacrifice to start it.
Point -> It's a paradox anyway, since in order to have the means to force a smaller fed, you'd have to vote in a ridiculous amount of Republicans into office, which would only incentive them to not shrink their new kingdom's powers anyway.

Ideal -> Democrat platform calls for the end of discriminatory hiring practices, so all Americans can have equal opportunity for success.
Reality -> That means government gets to tell businesses small enough to not have a team of lawyers and accountants who they get to hire, because the big guys own the politicians, and thus the problem is solved because we can see not-white not-men marched around in PR moments.
Point -> Feel good platitudes matter more than actual results, and the ongoing existence of discrimination suits the Democrats just fine, since it gets them elected and funded anyway.

See the greater point here?

In that case, I don't know what it might be. Maybe it's something psychological.

US elections are varied and a fun trainwreck to watch.

It's mostly cultural.

Remember, the United States was fought for and founded when a few amateur philosophers started complaining over drinks about how the government is oppressive and they should do something about it. So they threw their government out and built a new one.

That first one was under the Articles of Confederation and sucked ass as basically an exercise in having a central government with as much authority as mall cops. So we replaced that with the Constitution and Bill of Rights, which eventually became the blueprint for democracies around the world.

Since then, every American election is basically the two political parties breaking down each important issue into "My party is trying to do the best for the country" and "My party is trying to do the best for the people". Both major parties break down everything into one or the other, but usually a mix of country-benefiting and people-benefiting. There are parties that go whole hog on all-country or all-people policies, and they're usually the third-party candidates that never win anything, but usually spoil the election for one of the main candidates in certain areas.

For example, in this election cycle both parties have something to say about taxes and the minimum wage. The Democrats say that raising taxes on the wealthy and increasing the minimum wage to $15/hr is excellent for the people because in theory (and remember that all these political promises are always just theories when they run) it'll help elevate the poor into the middle class and rich people have been getting away with stuff for too long. Plus raising taxes gets the government more money, so that part is good for the country. The Republicans want to lower the corporate tax and undercut China, making it cheaper to do business here. This in theory generates jobs and improves the economy, which is good for the country, and the part that benefits the people is simply having more jobs and opportunity.

Sometimes the divide between things good for the country and good for the people are blatantly artificial, yes, but just remember it all goes back to the time we lived under a government all about itself, then the time we had one all about the people. We've basically been trying to find a balancing act ever since. And finding that balancing act is usually a country consuming clusterfuck where half the country wails that we made a mistake leading us into a new dark age (and ever since the Cold War, just extend that dark age not just to Americans, but the whole world) and the other half stares dreamily into the sunrise, having thrown off the shackles of their old oppressors once again.

Politics, ladies and gentlemen.

You can see the marked difference two similar people can have in viewing the government right here.

Though I'll concede that Lanceman is many times better educated in history, process, and the immediate details of our political system. I take a more philosophical view, and know less specifics as a result.

GAC is also very well read on history, but that might be more ancient times than modern.

This, but replace Teddy Roosevelt with Cincinnatus. That way he'd be a principled man, a leader, but nobody would know what the fuck he's saying. Perfect politician.

Yeah I know how you feel, BOS was like good but super kill non humans with no lee way though I did manage to convince the elder to not kill danse.

Railroad is good to an extent but the mission where you gotta catch the synth raider shows that their option is ideal is kinda flawed as well.

Institute is just like fuck everything earth in down here in the ground.

So I stuck with the minutemen who apparently are open minded enough to not be racist assholes and also just simply want to help people from raiders, feral ghouls, and super mutants.

FDR was a great president, but he was a president for his time. He created jobs buy making jobs up. He made a bunch of programs. Thats all well and good, but we don't have a WW2 England to sell weapons to to get our money back.

I picked another faction just because I was so tired of the Minutemen constantly asking me (their leader) to solve petty disputes between utterly defenseless settlers and persistent raiders. I even turned off their radio station because of it. In fact, I liked the way Far Harbor dealt with raiders. The second they attack, we track down their little hideout and kill everyone inside with extreme prejudice so that it won't happen again.

I also didn't like how almost none of the factions even considered a peaceful solution. It felt arbitrary as fuck.

Speaking solely as someone who actually played Fallout 1 and 2, Bethesda's Brotherhood of Steel is so weird.

New Vegas was so refreshing among other reasons because the Brotherhood there was the Brotherhood I knew and loved from the old days. Isolationist as fuck, well and truly capable of high profile technomurder, and requiring heaven and earth moved around them before they get out into the sunlight and look at the real world.

Well its because Obsidian has a lot of the original Fallout people working there. Which is why I'd kill for the Fallout 4 engine and license to be given to them again.

The know how to make Fallout. Hell Even after Fallout 4 was critically acclaimed at launch, i still remember critics awkwardly mentioning how New Vegas may be the better Fallout game.

Meanwhile, the chapter going for the Commonwealth arrives in an airship that pretty much asks to get Hindenburg'd. Even the trailers showed you how beautiful it'd look while engulfed in flames. To me, they were about as smart as the Gundam pilots in Mobile Suit Gundam 00 were when they wanted to eradicate war by effectively declaring war on every nation on the planet. The Commonwealth is a fucking cesspool of rabid raiders, mutated animals and synths and no amount of death charges will change that.

The know how to make Fallout. Hell Even after Fallout 4 was critically acclaimed at launch, i still remember critics awkwardly mentioning how New Vegas may be the better Fallout game.

I'll give this to Bethesda: They finally managed to create characters that I could actually remember and give a fuck about.

FDR, the guy who ordered the government to pull american citizens out of their homes, forced them to live in interment camps with no rights, no access to lawyers and no right to due process, and sold their homes and possessions off because their parent's were from the wrong country? I'd go with the Roosevelt that did not do that.

Lincoln suspended Habius Corpus, and Jailed people without legal trials.

War makes people do terrible things, unfortunately.
