Towards the end of that given period but yeah I'll be in my early 30's by that point.

Geeze, I didn't realize that you guys were so young back then when the clan started.
Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
I am currently 28.
You guys better still be around when I hit 30.

Hey, do we have a Discord server? If not, we should, if only for the chance to talk every now and then.

Yeah, like I said, not exactly active.
Plus we basically don't have the same channel and thread structure like we do here.
If we did then maybe we could port over to there and have voice comms if we wanted to.
But Darkstorm is the host so I don't know how we'd go about mods and shit.

I kind of wish I liked Animal Crossing. People seem very excited for it, but that type of game just does nothing for me.

Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door didn't make top ten? Bah! Major points off for that.
No Luigi's Mansion? For shame.
Pikmin 2 is a fun, and I like Sunshine more than most, but they don't belong at the top ten IMO. Top 20 or 15, yes, but not top ten.
Nice to see Metroid Prime got respect.

I haven't had a PB&J in around 5 years.
But for the last couple nights, I've made one, or two, or a triple stacker. It's nice. Natural peanut butter, to have at least 1 ingredient without added sugars even.
I should probably find more of the simple, enjoyable childhood indulgences. They make me kinda happy, and that seems rather important.

So what am I supposed to do when I want to meet and talk to new people, get to know them better and all that socializing fun stuff when I can't work up the courage to be myself around them and only say the bare necessities around them? Or rather, it's a defense mechanism that kicks in, because I apparently expect the worst all the time.

2-3 beers. Failing that, the most basic, popular topics you know about. Complain about work, slight self-deprecating jokes, superhero movies, whatever pop star is being pushed right now, food. Safe, inoffensive, banal. Everyone can take part.

Follow All Might's advice.

It tends to work for me. In that case at least.
Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
That is good advice indeed.
I would add that asking questions and being a good listener helps. You do not need to care about the topic of conversation, just the person you are talking to.

and of course remember to be yourself, people should like you for who are and not someone you pretend to be.
I'm pretty much in SWM's boat when it comes with social stuff (but I have a lot of issues to go with it, like having autism, some depressions and social anxiety so I don't like to leave the house to name a few) and people in general, but I have picked up a few things over the years when dealing with people because of various situations I have been put in.
But generally be friendly and yourself seems to work the best most of the time.
At least that's my advice.

My advice, may not be the best but works for me, is that I project the person I want to be, which in this case is a person who is confident. I normally dislike talking to new people as I am never sure how to connect initially with people I have never met or talked to before. Add to the mix that I am fairly shy and a bit of an introvert.
My introductory conversations normally go like. "Hey man, fun [insert social occasion or whatever]" , I then wait for the reply and then go "My name is x , what is your name and what brings you here?" You can then add questions about where they work or how they got know someone, or any sort of popular current stuff like movies or tv shows or what not. The key thing is to converse long enough to find some common ground. If they do not seem to engage then move on to someone else or to another group conversation.
The thing is you will need to put yourself out there and sort of "force" yourself to engage in those conversations until you get comfortable in them, it is about practice and, like others said, listening to the other person to see what kind of common ground/interests you can find. Eventually you will rely less and less in forced confidence projection as your natural charisma and confidence will take over. At least this is how it worked out for me, not saying I love talking to new people but I manage better than a couple of years ago.

You ever manage to find out what happened to Hackett, T?
Otherwise, yeah, everyone's basically on point here. First meetings are awkward for everyone, but most people don't overthink it like we do, and they do it often enough to have the "script" down rote. Introductions, your job, or your hobbies, or something notable that happened, and then simple small talk. It's tedious, but it's how you make friends unless you start with a group of people already sharing some common interests. Cough cough.

Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
Man, Overwatch League's been pretty fucking good these opening weeks. Way more tight games, even went to game 7 (first to 3 format) the other day. Tragic losses today.
Also the first season where every team is supposed to host their own homestead matches, locally. And the coronavirus really fucked that up. First they canceled all the China matches, where they have 3 Chinese teams, and moved them to Korea. Now they're canceling all the Korean matches, and some of the US teams already over there are taking short-notice flights back here.
For a disease with 1-2% fatality rate, on people already weak or sick, people sure are taking it seriously. Which I suppose is a good thing.

See, it was the opposite for me. I used to be rather natural at talking to people, but then something happened and now I can only think like myself when I'm not in a social situation, because the second I'm in one, I think I get something close to performance anxiety, but without all the physical symptoms. It's like my head becomes completely empty and stringing together thoughts becomes close to impossible, because I guess that a part of me really wants to get the best out of every sentence and that puts pressure on me and makes me think about everything I say instead of just saying it, which makes me hesitate about everything I say at the same time and makes me try to keep it short instead of talking about things in a natural way, about how I truly feel. I think it's because a part of my brain is trying to turn every sentence into a punchline.
It's something I really want to get over, but I'm not sure how. Just having social interactions don't help either. I really wish I could become more spontaneous and just not care about every single word I say. It's like I think I'm being judged based on everything I say and I'm trying to upstage myself because of it.
It's like that fight or flight scenario and my brain automatically chooses flight and I can't make it fight to save my life, because I don't think I know how to be myself around people anymore. I've tried breathing techniques, I've tried thinking about it in different ways, nothing helps.
