It's not as much an issue as with Game of Thrones because this is a way more liberal adaptation of the source material.

The comic book is both cartoonish and super trashy, so many changes were made to make the story more "realistic" and up to date with the themes.

Here's what comes to mind if you're interested in no particular order compared to season 1.

Good news, John Wick fans!

John Wick 5 is confirmed, and it will be shot back-to-back with John Wick 4. They are aiming to begin filming next year.

As thrilled as I am to hear it, at this point I am a little concerned for Keanu's own well-being. His age is finally beginning to show and he was struggling with the third movie because of it. I adore John Wick, but I don't want Keanu to overexert himself, his own health should come first and foremost. Even vampires need to slow down.

I don't know how physical John Wick filming can be. On one hand, he is clearly in very fine shape and probably has a very strict routine to stay that way, but on the other the JW movies might not be the most taxing as far as action goes - in no small part due to it being a project led by people who come from the world of stunts, so I assume they would take way more care about what they can and can't make Keanu do than someone who only sees stuntmen when they come to do what he's written.

They really should, since the online marketing for FK dropped some info concerning such that had huge ramifications that were begging to be explored in more detail, and opened the door for even more questions. And if BioSyn is really coming back as the final Big Bad to help tie these 6 movies up more or less, then I don't doubt that they'll be revealed to have been secretly doing shady shit on Site B themselves offscreen between films. (Its not like the island ever had any real security preventing people from just taking a boat or plane there!) Or at the very least, acquired Sorna resources from others via various cloak-and-dagger tactics and a lot of money.

Officially Sorna's dinosaur population was decimated by the likes of the Spinosaurus and the JPIII "alpha raptors", which were early attempts by Ingen to create weaponized dinosaurs, and were dumped on the island in secret, and the remaining Sorna dinosaurs were eventually moved to Isla Nublar, to help increase the animal population of Jurassic World faster. That's the explanation we have currently, and it's not a bad one, but it was given through hints and bits via viral marketing, so it barely counts as canon, and only because it's the ONLY attempt to explain what has been of Site B that we've ever got. I'd much rather have one of the movies addressing Sorna's fate, instead...

The poster tho...the font is the same, or very close to, as the one used for Godzilla2014 and KotM...

Might not mean much, but Toho is reportedly very happy with the Legendary movies, and thei're proving to be the kind of "slow but steady" IP that makes money with home video and merch for years. Sooo... maybe it's a hint the Monsterverse will indeed continue past the next film? Pretty pleaaaase?

If not that, there were also talks of trying to make more animated Godzilla stuff, just... better than the Godzilla Earth trilogy, and you could more easily make anime from home and understaffed offices than a live action movie with cast crew, and tons of practical effects.

One can hope. Toho certainly seems invested in making sure this current Godzilla wave doesn't crest anytime soon, and trying to appeal to their fanbase both at home and abroad.

Exactly. Something that important needs to be addressed in the films proper if its going to be definitive canon and affect story-making decisions. (I remember when FK was coming out; there was a ton of people asking about Sorna and were confused as to why it was never brought up.) Also, I think there's an official young adult prequel novel set before the events of JW that mentions Site B had been hit by a mysterious illness, which contributed to the decimation of it's dino population. Don't quote me on that one, though.

I believe that's from the Claire novel, yes. There was mentions of poachers going to Sorna and hunting down dinos, as well as a virus, which is a direct reference to the original Lost World novel by Chricton, where all the dinosaurs on Sorna were infected and were eventually going to die out.

What, did you expect 2020 Hollywood to be able to make a fun, fresh new take on a classic comedy that's both a spoof of western films and takes the piss at racism for most of its runtime, of all things?

It is sometimes possible for remakes like this to be funny, but considering the movie director is a nobody and the studio that produces it is also almost unknown, I very much doubt that will be the case here.

To be fair for a second, I actually see where thei're coming from. THere's a fair bit of overlap between samurai and gunslinger movies in terms of tone and story beats, with Sergio Leone himself admitting that A Fistful of Dollars is almost a scene-for-scene recreation of a samurai movie he liked, so I could see someone taking a Western movie outline and trying to flip it back.

But doing that with a movie that's already a spoof, but with cats instead of people and in a low budget Dreamworks/Illumination arstyle? Yeah, that I don't get. Especially since there's no way in Hell thei're gonna keep some of the more "risqué" jokes into the thing that way, both because thei're obviously gonna try to sell it to kids, and because, again, Hollywood2020.

So why not just do a Samurai Cats movie not attached to anything else at that point?

[[ "Avatar: The Last Airbender creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko have left the production of Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series over creative differences.

Michael DiMartino’s full statement:
Many of you have been asking me for updates about the Avatar live-action Netflix series. I can finally tell you that I am no longer involved with the project. In June of this year, after two years of development work, Bryan Konietzko and I made the difficult decision to leave the production.
When Bryan and I signed on to the project in 2018, we were hired as executive producers and showrunners. In a joint announcement for the series, Netflix said that it was committed to honoring our vision for this retelling and to supporting us on creating the series. And we expressed how excited we were for the opportunity to be at the helm. Unfortunately, things did not go as we had hoped.
Look, things happen. Productions are challenging. Unforeseen events arise. Plans have to change. And when those things have happened at other points during my career, I try to be like an Air Nomad and adapt. I do my best to go with the flow, no matter what obstacle is put in my way. But even an Air Nomad knows when it’s time to cut their losses and move on.
I started to reevaluate what is truly important in my life and what I wanted to do with what’s left of it. I took some advice from Uncle Iroh. I looked inward and started asking myself the big question: “Who are you and what do you want?”
I also sought wisdom from Stoic philosophers who were big on differentiating between what is within our control and what isn’t. I realized I couldn’t control the creative direction of the series, but I could control how I responded. So, I chose to leave the project. It was the hardest professional decision I’ve ever had to make, and certainly not one that I took lightly, but it was necessary for my happiness and creative integrity.
And who knows? Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Avatar has the potential to be good. It might turn out to be a show many of you end up enjoying. But what I can be certain about is that whatever version ends up on-screen, it will not be what Bryan and I had envisioned or intended to make.
I also want to be clear that this doesn’t mean the end of my involvement in the Avatar universe. These stories and characters are important to me and the renewed interest and excitement in Avatar and Korra has been inspiring to see.
Writing this letter has left me with a very heavy heart. I know many of you will be disappointed and frustrated by this news. I get it. I share your disappointment and frustration. I also recognize this creative setback is small compared to the problems we’re all facing as a society right now.
Thankfully, Iroh offered some wisdom for that, too: “Sometimes life is like this dark tunnel. You can’t always see the light at the end of the tunnel, but if you just keep moving you will come to a better place.”
May we all keep moving and come to a better place.
Thanks for reading and for your continued enthusiasm for the Avatar universe.
With gratitude,
Michael Dante DiMartino

Bryan Konietzko’s full statement:
Before I get to the crux of this statement, I would like to make it clear that I am very aware and appreciate of the fact that I am in an exceedingly fortunate position, and that the following issues are indeed good problems to have - even more so now that we are in the grips of a global pandemic and a cratering economy which have left millions unemployed. With that crucial context, here is the big news from my little world.

Michael DiMartino and I recently chose to leave Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender, the series he and I created together in 2002. We will have no involvement in the project moving forward.

This is probably the most difficult decision I have ever made. But there is no doubt in my mind it was absolutely the right choice.

When Netflix brought me on board to run this series alongside Mike two years ago, they made a very public promise to support out vision. Unfortunately, there was no follow-through on that promise. Thought I got to work with some great individuals, both on Netflix’s side and on our own small production team, the general handling of the project created what I felt was a negative and supportive environment.

To be clear, this was not a simple matter of us not getting our way. Mike and I are collaborative people; we did not need all of the ideas to come from us. As long as we felt those ideas were in line with the spirit and integrity of Avatar, we would have happily embraced them.

However, we ultimately came to the belief that we would not be able to meaningfully guide the direction of the series.

Though I am profoundly disappointed by how things turned out, there are wonderfully talented people who are still working on the series, some of whom Mike and I personally hired and got to know well during our time on the project. We worked very hard together towards a shared dream of how special this adaptation could be. I want to see them employed, and I hope they get the chance to do their best work on the series. Perhaps the team that remains might still be able to make something fans of the original and an entirely new audience can enjoy.

By and large, I have an incredibly charmed career and I am very grateful for it. And I am enormously lucky for the amazing global community of fans that has grown around the shows Mike and I have created and run together. I will continue to be deeply involved in the Avatar universe, telling the stories my partner and I want to tell in the way we want to tell them. I will put my time, energy, and talents towards the projects that give me the most fulfilment, and where I am afforded trust and respect.

Life is too short to do otherwise.

Both of them yeah. And they were there mostly to try and avoid a ATLA movie disaster again.

I was already rather unenthusiastic about the project because I am rarely convinced in series relying on kid actors, but now it is basically guaranteed to be a catastrophe.

Those two made Legend of Korra.

I mean i didn't have high hopes for a life action Last Airbender at any point. But those two idiots could have decided to distance themselves because the writers refused to re-write the series to make Zuko and Aang gay for one another. Or incorporate the idiotic retconning of the mythos.

It basically means nothing until its actually clear WHY they left.

A live action adaptation of Last Airbender is a pointless endeavour at best anyway, much like doing a live action Cowboy BeBop, and I have precisely zero hopes for either one to turn out good anyway. But when even the people WANTING to make said adaptation leave the building, it's hardly a good sign.

Oh right, the good writers/showrunners from Last Airbender actually are working on Dragon Prince now.

I could see the other two rewrite the original Last Airbender story to make it all a buildup to what happens when Korra, the REAL hero, shows up in a sequel show, or something idiotic like that, yes. Or make Aang and Zuko gay. Or turn the Firelord into an evil white dude cuz "muh Trump commentary".

Of course we won't be able to tell for sure if someone doesn't spill the beans, but something fucky must have been happening, one way or another, behind the scenes.
