Watching non-heavyweight boxing is odd. Intellectually, yeah, those guys could beat all of our asses in one punch, easy. But without the _mass_, it doesn't convey the power of the shots. Especially in the lower weights, it looks like love taps, but guys are falling ass over elbows when they take one.

I guess I'm just a bit frustrated right now, because I want to travel to Paraguay in late August, to visit my mother and other relatives. And I'm getting nervous that I won't have my second vaccination until then. <sigh> Let's hope they improve the speed quickly at which they administrate vaccinations here.

Just found out Japan's shutting down all foreign non-work travel. Thought they'd snuffed it out already, like most of east Asia. Though it seems the lockdown measure simply keeps a low burn going that flares up, unless you can _totally_ crush it out, like the Chicoms.

It has that nice pine flavor. The swill I just finished did not. The pine is very important. Sadly, no beef bones in the bottle.

For this week's art practice, doing some traditional paper and pencil sketches. Shit's hard, yo. Can't seem to get a handle on translating the "entirety" of an object, such as reducing a complex shape to simple geometrics. Instead, pick an arbitrary, important feature and derive the rest of it from there, which naturally causes proportional issues. Does this change with time, as the mind becomes more tuned to the process?

Rolling blackouts going on here because our grid was built to handle ludicrous demand in summer and not in winter. So far I haven't got hit with one and I hope it stays that way. Fortunately we have a fireplace and a gas stove and oven so there's that at least if it does go out.

The power has been out since 4 am which is a double edge sword. We lucked out in that it lasted through all the coldest part. Now, however, it's back above freezing and I have 2 deer worth of meat in my freezer I seriously don't want to lose.

Also, one of my pipes froze despite it being insulated and running the water all night, but it appears to have thawed without bursting. So overall I cannot complain.

The kerosene lamps and camping lanterns from hurricane kit as it turns out double for freak events that turn Texas into the South Pole.
