well I lost my old laptop with everything on it (none of it could be saved) and had to get a new one.
I fuckking pissed right now at losing all my stuff.

Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
Ooph. Same thing happened to my first laptop. Bricked so hard a data recovery guy couldn't get anything out of the HD. The last one just had a faulty PSU, was able to extract the HD and stick it into an adapter to copy to this desktop. But losing _everything_ on the first one still stings.
Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
That's why I don't use laptops. Also, big hands and tiny keyboards. I got at least two back-ups of all my important mementos lying around as well as backed up on two active hard-drives.
Still, sorry for the loss of your data.

All theses shortages with components are even starting to hit enterprise now. Wait time to order PCs at work is up to like 8-12 weeks, which is nuts. We can usually get them in a couple of weeks at most.
Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
Yeah, shit's gonna be fucked for a few months more to potentially 2022 IMO.
Or if not fucked then extremely limited.

I'm done with Bravely Second. Not 100% done, since I still had to do the Yokai and bonus bosses, but all asterisks, all at level 10-11, team level 99, most of the bestiary filled, etc etc. Final boss could barely scratch me.
It is a pleasant game, which also suffers from story pacing issues, but waaaaay less than Bravely Default. Problem is, to fully appreciate Second, you need to play Default. And the final chapters of this one are so mind-boggingly boring to get through that I'm not sure I could advise anyone to do so.
The team was a bit more enjoyable this time around. One reason it took me nearly 10 years to play that game is that the character you are introduced to in the postgame of Default, Magnolia, seemed insufferable. As it turns out, her personality was majorly retconned, and she's actually quite nice - but they kept that postgame sequence and integrated it to the story, and it sticks like a sore thumb when you have to go through it. Tiz also was less bland than in Default, and Edea is still fantastic - she got more focus this time around.
The Default asterisk holders you encounter were mostly cleverly integrated through sidequests in which you get to pick one or the other. Most dilemmas are balanced, others...not so much, and writing quality varies.
There are obvious balance issues between all 30 classes, but it had to be expected. Some new asterisks make other ones completely obsolete - like Bishop with White Mage, or Wizard with Black Mage. But you still get to try a ton of combinations and look for combos, combat system is really enjoyable. And the grinding system - in which you can keep fighting as long as you kill enemies in one turn - is still very well done, as it encourages you to really think about how to optimize grinding.
Anyway, it cost me €15 for 70 hours of enjoyable gameplay, so it was well worth it.
Now on to Bravely Default 2, which features a new cast. No idea if it will have anything in common with the first two games.

Well, upper-middle class, the rich are less conspicuous over here I'd imagine. Living in penthouses in the cities or in rich people areas in the quiet parts of states. West coast, supposed to be flaunting, no?

Lol, nah you're fine!
I'm gonna try and focus my restless energy on self improvement.
I'm actually gonna try and draw on paper tomorrow, despite my scanner having broken yesterday so I can't show the relatively childish etchings compared to what i used to be able to do, lol.
Re: Tali'Thread vas Clan Zorah nar BSN 6.0
Thanks, man. And, yes, self-improvement is something to try for, at least in an area you care about.

I know that feeling. My first laptop randomly died on me out of the blue back in the day. Lost a lot of things that were important to me, and the backup got fucked up on top of that. It was infuriating. Years worth of family photos, personal projects, etc.

What an oddly positive slew of games ahead. Total War Remaster, TW3 some time this year, RE8, Diablo 2 & TBC (if they don't fuck it up), I'm not used to being tentatively hyped .
Also found a vinegar-free hot sauce for the first time. Haven't tried it yet, going to make some scrambled eggs for the test run, but not being instantly sickened by a hot sauce seems like fun.

Sorry I completely missed this reply.
Context: I live in Monroe County (it's so fucking boring here, please stay away). Monroe has been okay. Not great, but it's fared much better than the city. Inherent in that is the reduced population density. The teeny tiny counties have done farily well. Genesee has barely 5,000 total cases. Yates has barely over 1,000. Monroe has about 60,000, which is towards the high-end if you only look at the non-city counties. But we only have around 1,000 deaths. That's 1,000 too many, but relatively better than many other places in the country. We're still getting about 225-250 new cases per day. Would've been better if the governor and fed had the balls to lock down properly for once.
The JHU covid map is a great way of visualizing it (county specific view).
On a side note, I became eligible for vaccine last week. Registered for the earliest time slot: May 24th.

I finished the third and last NieR raid in FFXIV.
Can't say I understood a thing since I didn't play NieR, but the scenery, music and graphic themes were top notch all throughout. I even got a DirectX crash that caused all sorts of visual glitches - very fitting for this raid in a way.
Apparently some of the final raid had references to Drakengard, which I haven't played either. Maybe I'll try to get some info to understand everything I missed - but those games seem to like to screw with your mind.

Protip: Never use lamb's wool roller covers when painting a ceiling. The stipple will make it look like shit unless you do 2-3 coats, regardless of coverage.
Apparently there's a run on ketchup in our area. Quite a few people at CostCo had what looked like gallon packs of ketchup in their carts. The last time in my life I recalled using ketchup in large amounts was when I was about 7, eating well done steak my mother had cut up for me, so I can only imagine what's being done with the stuff.
The lesson here is that if you sell a good like that, pretend you're running out of stock, and let nature do the rest.

[[ "Future Jurassic Park films could feature one weird new beast in the menagerie: a pterosaur nicknamed Monkeydactyl for its opposable thumbs. This flying reptile from the Jurassic Period may be the earliest known animal that could touch the insides of its thumbs to the insides of its other fingers, researchers report online April 12 in Current Biology. Such dexterity probably allowed Monkeydactyl to climb trees about 160 million years ago, perhaps to feed on insects and other prey that nonclimbing pterosaurs did not, the researchers say. The latter half of the creature’s official name, Kunpengopterus antipollicatus, comes from the words “opposite” and “thumb” in ancient Greek.
Monkeydactyl’s fossilized remains, unearthed in northeastern China in 2019, are embedded in rock. So the team used micro-CT scanning to create a 3-D rendering of the fossil. “With this detail, we’re able to look at the fossil from any angle, and make sure that the bones are in their right [original] place,” says study coauthor Rodrigo Pêgas, a paleontologist at the Federal University of ABC in São Bernardo, Brazil.
Those scans helped confirm that the skeleton had a well-preserved opposable thumb on each hand. “Almost all of the modern animals that have opposable thumbs use them to climb trees,” Pêgas says, including primates and some tree frogs. That evidence, along with the apparent flexibility of Monkeydactyl’s joints, suggests this species was well suited to clambering through tree branches." ]]

I just got my first dose of the vaccine (Moderna).
Also went to an estate sale at the house next to my sister's because the pharmacy where I got the shot was in her neighborhood. We are thinking about trying to buy this house when it comes on the market and then I would have the novelty of my sister's family as next door neighbors.
It was an older couple that died so the house was full of antiques. I love old stuff but I'm consistently the only person under the age of like 50 in such places when I go. Apparently the price of antiques is plummeting across the board because younger people mostly don't care. On the one hand there is something sad about this. On the other it just means I will be able to buy cool old stuff for less and less money as I get older.
Got myself a big Corningware cooking pot and a small kerosene lamp that is designed to be able to carry around. It's got one of the old timey handles you slip your index finger through like a portable holder for a candlestick. I already had a couple big lamps and they ended up being super useful when the power went out a while back. They are a standard part of my hurricane kit. They have a surprisingly bright flame and the kerosene lasts much longer than you would expect. They also just go well with the weird Old West/uber fantasy nerd hybrid thing my house has going on in general.
